VI. NOTES

DEFINITION
Hand washing is a general term referring to any action of hand cleansing. It is like a do-it-yourself vaccineit is by far the best way to reduce the spread of infectious
diseases. Regular hand washing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of the germs (e.g. bacteria and viruses) that
cause diseases. Regular hand washing is highly recommended.
A number of infectious diseases can be spread from one person to another by contaminated hands. These diseases include gastrointestinal infections, such as Salmonella,
and respiratory infections such as influenza.

PROPER STEP IN HAND WASHING

Six-step hand washing technique is recommended by the WHO begin by wetting hands with water and grab a soap. Begin rubbing your palms together with your fingers
closed, then together with fingers interlaced. Move your right palm over left dorsum with interlaced fingers and vice versa-make sure to really rub in between your fingers.
Then interlock your fingers and rub the back of them by turning your wrist in a half circle motion. Clasp your left thumb in your right palm and rub in a rotational motion
from the tip of your fingers to the end of the thumb, then switch hands. And finally scrub the inside of your right hand with your left fingers closed and the other hand.
Washing your hands properly takes about as long as singing Happy Birthday twice.

IMPORTANCE OF HAND WASHING

Washing hands properly is one of the most important things you can do to help prevent and control the spread of many illnesses. Good hand hygiene will reduce the risk of
things like flu, food poisoning and healthcare associated infections being passed from person to person. Hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of
infectious diseases. So regular hand washing is a must. Its a message worth repeating because hand washing is by far the best way to prevent germs from spreading and

JUSTIFICATIONS:

1. Methods, Strategies and Techniques

I will be targeting my teaching on the affective domain, using one on one discussion and simulation gaming as my teaching method. In cognitive, I will lecture on why
hand washing is important such that it stop the spread of germs, prevent illness, hygiene and when she should be washing her hands. While in psychomotor, I will demonstrate the
proper technique to hand washing and then request return demonstration from the student. And in affective, we will have a one on one discussion on hand washing and simulation
games prior to knowledge of the student, when she currently wash her hands, and when she should be washing and why.

2. Instructional Media

The instructional media that will be used in cognitive domain are PowerPoint presentation and handouts so with the affective domain. While in psychomotor will be
video clip presentation and handouts.

3. Evaluation Methods

In cognitive, it will be evaluated through correctly answering a written quiz on the lecture about importance of prevention of germs, prevention of illness, hand hygiene,
and by direct observation with the use of a checklist of a rating scale or rubrics. Correct return demonstration about the proper technique to hand washing will be the evaluation
method in psychomotor. Affective will be evaluated by the willingness of the student to actively participate and her willingness to pay attention to the task at hand like performing
role play, demonstration of the proper technique in hand washing and so with the written quiz.
