FORMUALA USED

True energy = V I T watt-sec

Where V = Voltmeter reading in volts

I = Ammeter reading in amps
t = Time consumed in secs.

Recorded energy = N / K KWhr = N / K * 3600 * 1000 watt- sec

Where N = No. of revolutions

K = Energy meter constant in rev / KWhr

CALIBRATION OF SINGLE PHASE ENERGY METER

THEORY

Energy Meter records the energy consumed by a circuit over a period of time. It
works on the principle of electromagnet induction and can be used for AC circuits only.
The meter consists of two-elector magnet shunt and series. The coil of the shunt is
connected across the supply and carries a current proportional to voltage across the load.
The coil of series magnet is connected in series with the load and hence the load current.
An aluminum disc is mounted in the airgap between the two magnets and it is free to
rotate about its axis. A gear arrangement is fixed in the meter which moves according to
the rotation of the aluminum disc and this will show the display if energy consumed.

PROCEDURE

1. Connections are given.

2. The load current and voltage is measured from the digital display.
3. The time taken for N revolutions of the disc is recorded using stop watch.
4. The same procedure is repeated for the different ratings of lamp loads.

RESULT:

Thus the given single phase energy meter is calibrated using lamp load.
