INTRODUCTION

Both articles were about language needs at workplace. However, the first article by
Tuula Lehtonen and Sinikka Karjalainen with the title of University Graduates Workplace
Language Needs As Perceived By Employers that was published on 2008 was more focus
on the language need a a workplace by employers demand and other language used and
future language needs for language in Finland. In addition, it was more focus on the
important of language of the country which is Finnish and Swedish and other language used
at workplace in the country since Finland is a multilingual country although Swedish is an
official language of the country it was not widely used and only about to 5.5% of the
language was spread across the coastal area where Swedish people lived. Language skills are
important in professions requiring university education and the demand of not only to master
the national language but also able to use two additional languages. Thus the problem is the
undergraduate language teaching at university language centers does not know enough about
the students future career and language skills need at work. Hence, this research focused on
the language needs of university graduates at today workplace according to the view of their
employers and help LSP/ESP teachers and curriculum designers in university language
centers or other institute to plan their languages programs for students future employment.

In comparison with another article we reviewed whereas the article is about English
Language Oral Communication Needs at the Workplace. The article is research by
Mohammad Ali Moslehifar and Noor Aireen Ibrahim. Where the research is related about the
importance of communication skills is significant in the management sector as stated in
different job advertisements. In the context at the workplace, having good communication
skills is the way to success and that good communications skills is the way to success and
that good communication skills are seen as fundamental. According to Clagett, in
communication, the most important area is oral communications skills in English language
which all graduates should possess to guarantee that they can function efficiently at the
workplace. The research is important to know the problems among students. Like what
Stevens reported that employers believed that a low proficiency language skill was a difficult
factor for employment. The problems faced by existing staff in multinational companies
include difficulty in expressing views and ideas at the workplace by nonnative speakers of
English.

2. COMPARISON OF METHODOLOGIES

There are projects called Language Needs At Workplace where it investigates the
actual language use of employees with an academic degree and interviewed representatives of
employers about the issues related to language use. The methodology used in this research of
the first article was by interview data on various themes from the representatives of 15
Finnish employers where it highlights certain language-related trends at workplace of
university graduates and the need for a range of language and discusses cultural aspects. The
data was used to know the language skills and recruitment concerns, language use at work
and future language needs. the framework of the interviews was showed in the journal article.
The methods used to gather the data for this article were clearly explained. The instruments
and development were explained, and the question for the interview was prepped structurally.

In comparison with the article 2, the study utilized a set questionnaire as the data
collection instrument which was adopted from questionnaires used in two previous needs
analysis studies. The adopted questionnaire for the purpose of this study contained two parts.
Part A included questions on the respondents personal profiles. Part B consists of questions
which addressed the ELOC needs of HRD trainees. The respondents were expected to reflect
on their recent industrial training experience. However, the methods used to the data for this
article were clearly explained. The instruction and contained were explained, and the target
have been notified. But on this methodology was only used one way methods like
questionnaire. They must use many ways to collect more data to improve their findings for
example interview, stakeholders and others. After that, in this target there were limited for
undergraduates. To get more efficient, the target must be more than one, they must open to
other faculty.

3. COMPARISONS OF FINDINGS

Next for the findings of first articles, the findings were well organized, sectioned, and
reported objectively. Each finding was highlighted and explains briefly. Each of the findings
was input quotes from the interviewees. The data was discussed base on the findings by
employers interviewed where it explained briefly about the needs of both parties. The
employers highlight about the need for languages where language skills is important in
professions requiring university education which shows confident for those searching for job
applicant. Base on the data the it shows that English is the most widely-spoken foreign
language at the workplace and use in professional matters because theres marriage between
English skills and professional skills. Knowing both languages of Finnish and Swedish is also
important requirement. However, there requirement standards was lowered when in come to
Swedish because not every Finnish can speak Swedish. The result shows that Russia might be
the potentially useful future language in Finland. Level of knowledge was also important as
indicators of good language skills and confidents and for professional purposes knowing one
or two foreign languages well is more useful than several languages at elementary level and
knowing how to adapt to certain culture-bound where different language can be applied for
different situations. Nevertheless, the findings of this article were generalized and can be
used in similar country with the same problems.

However for the other article, the questions are suitable for the respondents and also
very understand to respond. The tables and parts of findings were well but must improve the
tests. The author was given very clearly findings data. Every part, the author gives the
explanations very well on every data. The finding is clear that the trainees view oral
communication skills as significantly important skills for the workplace. The study by Ali
conducted on human resources staff in multinational companies in Malaysia. They get the
results is about Importance of oral communication skills in general, Importance of English
language in specific communicative activities, Frequency of encountering problems during
the practical training and Future Emphasis. First, the importance of oral communications
skills in general. They have using bar chart were shows the percent on every the questions
were include not very important, somewhat importance, important and very important. So for
the results, they get The given diagram illustrates the importance of oral communication
skills at the workplace for HRD trainees from the trainees perspective.

Second, the importance of English language in specific communicative activities.
Here they show illustrates in details the responses obtained with regard to the importance of
the different activities in English language. There are have 10 different activities which is
include discussing project, reporting problems, making formal oral presentations on projects,
making and arguing for an issue, speaking on the telephone with colleagues about job related
matters, establishing social relationships with colleagues, establishing social relationships
with clients and providing training through discussions. There are 468 are involve to response
and the higher is important. Thirds, the frequency of encountering problems during the
practical training. The author provides an overview of the different oral communication
problems faced by trainees and the frequency in which they encounter these problems at the
workplace. There are many problems that we can know. However, these problems are
reported by most of the trainees as something they either encountered as problems they
seldom faced. For the last is future emphasis. The oral communications skills in English and
the trainees perception of the emphasis that should be given for the different oral skills in
future English language courses for HRD undergraduates. The different oral skills is oral
presentations skill, discussion skills, negotiation skills, briefing skills, meetings, telephone
skills, conversations skills and pronunciations so the total of this questions have been
answered is 629. In generals, the respondents agreed that all these skills should be given
focus but of different emphasis.

4. CONCLUSIONS

The conclusions of the both articles were based on the findings and logically stated.
Conclusions and implications were formulated with the knowledge that subjects for this study
using interview session of employers regarding the language needs in a workplace. The
interview result finally can help LSP/ESP teachers and curriculum designer in a university
language centers or other institute to plan their languages programs for students future
employment. This study shows that the need for language centers to see language skills from
a wider perspectives essentially including skills such as fluent presentation and interaction
use of a lingua franca or lingua francas, confidence to communicate in a variety of situations,
cultural competence, and learning-to-learn skills.

In comparison with he first article where the findings provide important input to
course developers in their efforts to develop new course or improving on existing courses
geared at Human Resources Development undergraduates. Overall, the language and
communication skills is very important in workplace which having good skills it is easy to
get the job and can impress employers to get a job. Besides that, as students we need to
improve our language and communication skills for managers to possess in order to carry out
tasks efficiently at the workplace. In fact, at present, one of the key objectives in Malaysian
Higher Institutions is to generate large number of graduates with high ability to communicate
effectively at the workplace. So as a student we need to improve our skills to the future.

5. RECOMMENDATION

Additional research is needed to others target for examples to other faculty. There are
to get more findings on every different target. University and institution must create
others course just focus to the language and communication skill so that the graduates
may confident to speak in fluently in front of audience. The graduates need to be educated
to be able to use to additional language besides their mother tongue. Lastly, the
communication in highly demanding workplace-related should be the target of language
courses that prepare for life of students after studies.
