Cylinder & Seals

Click on the Cylinder & Seals button or the cylinder picture from the Hydraulic
Information System window. The Cylinders & Seals window displays.

The Cylinders and Seals window displays 4 icons. Each provides unique part
information.
A. Search / Consist locate a cylinder group part number, view the group bill of
material, identify seal kits based on engineering change levels, identify reman parts
availability, and other information. The Search / Consist window provide parts break
down from a machine model to a single piece part.
B. Where Used locate a piece part from any level up to a machine model.
C. Groups, Assemblies and Seals find a cylinder group, an assembly and a seal by a
function or type or physical dimensions.
D. Cylinder Summary a summary for a cylinder group. It is similar to the cylinder and
seal reference guide. It lists machine model, group number break down by
engineering level, cylinder assembly, rod assembly, bore diameter, length, reman, and
seal kits.

Double click on an icon or select your choice from the Open drop down menu to open
the window.

To access Cylinder Group information including the seal kits availability:
Double click on Search / Consist Icon in the Cylinders & Seals to open the Search
window.

The Cylinder Group Search window primarily used to find a cylinder group
even if you do not know the group number. Cylinder group could be found by a
machine serial number prefix, or by a machine model, or by a cylinder function.

Once the cylinder group is identified. The Consist push-button allow you to
view the group bill of material, identify remanufactured parts availability for
assemblies, and identify the seal kits and their bill of material by engineering
change levels.

Enter as much information as you know about a cylinder group and click on the
Search push-button. The system displays all groups match your search
criteria. The information you key in does not have to be in order.

From the File menu, you can send the search result to a local printer or to a
text file.

If you know the cylinder group number:

Key in the group number or portion of it in the Group No field and press the
Enter key or click on Search. Ex. 3G2222 or 3G222

If you do not know the cylinder group number, but you know the following:
1. Tap key to the Serial No Prefix and key in 74Z
2. Tab to the Model No and key in D11N
3. Tab to the Cylinder Function and select Dozer
4. Mark the Precise Criteria with check mark. The precise Criteria is used to limit
the search result to a precisely.
Example: to display all cylinder groups for D11 model. If the precise Criteria are not
checked, the system will display all cylinder groups for D11, D11N and D11R.
5. Click on Search button or press Enter.

The cylinder groups match the search criteria are displayed in the list box or a
message appears, saying, no data is found.

Use the scroll keys to view more information

The information displayed in the list box includes:


GROUP_NO - is the cylinder group part number
GRP_VER - is the group version, to identify the cylinder origin or facility source.
SER_NO_PFX is the equipment serial number prefix.
SALES_MODEL - is the machine sales model.
CYL_FNCT is the Cylinder function
FAM_ABR - is the machine family abbreviation.
DESCR - is the cylinder group description.

Consist The Consist push button is now available and is used to open the Cylinder
Group window and view the bill of material, seal kits and other Information.

You can also double click on a group line item or select consist from the View drop
down menu, to open the Cylinder Group Consist and detailed information window.

To access Cylinder Group Consist - Click on the Consist button to open the window.

This Cylinder Group Consist displays; part number, group version, description, engineer
last change level, consumer suggested US dollars price, and the group service status.
Replaces - Display the older or replaced group numbers. Replaced By Display the
newer group numbers.
Where Used icon is used to open the Where Used window and display the selected PN
if any in the where used search.
Physical Data push button is used to open the physical data window and view the
group dimensional information. The physical data window will be cover in the Groups,
Assembly, and Seals section.
Process push buttons is used when another cylinder group and version are keyed in
the entry fields.
Close push buttons - is used to close this window only.

To access the cylinder group bill of material and prices. Click on the
Consist / Price to open the window.

The Consist/Price window provides a list of all parts that make up the cylinder group
including the cylinder and rod assemblies as well as the seal kits. This window initially
displays the current serviceable parts. Each line item contained quantity, part number,
consumer suggested US dollars price, Extended price, service level status, engineering in
effective level, and the part type.

The Consist/Detail displays group parts at all levels. The indented parts are the parts that
make up the assemblies or groups within a group. Each dot represent a consist level.
Because some of the parts are assemblies make up of other parts in the list, the items filed
indicates how may different part numbers a customer would have to purchase separately
to receive the entire group.
The part number followed by an asterisk (*) make up the group.
Use the scroll bars to view more information.
Double click on a line item displays the part number in the Selected PN field. This is
useful to jump to Where Used and find what other groups or kits are using this part.
When you are finished viewing the information, click on the Close push button to
close the window.

To access the consist history, cancel replace parts. Click on the Consist
History push button to open the window.

The Consist History window provides a list of parts that have replaced by other parts at
different engineering levels. Each line item in this window displays: part number,
description, engineering-in group level, engineering-out group level, replaced by part
number or the new par number with its new description, and part type.

Part number could be replaced by many part numbers or vice versa.

Double click on a line item will display the part number in the Selected PN

When you are finished viewing the information, click on the Close push button to
close the window.

To access the Remanufactured parts availability. Click on the Reman push
button to open the window.

The Reman window provides a list of remanufactured parts for rod assembly, cylinder
assembly, and oversize cylinder assembly.

Each line item displays reman part number, new part number, description, consumer
US dollar consumer price, ant the group number.

Double click on a line item will display the part number in the Selected PN field.

When you are finished viewing the information, click on the Close push button to
close the window.

To access the Sales Model. Click on the Sales Models push button to open the
window.

The Sales Models window provides a list of machine models uses this cylinder group.

Each line item displays machine sales model, serial number prefix, beginning serial
number, ending serial number, group description, quantity, and the family
abbreviation.

Double click on a line item will display the group number in the Selected PN field.

When you are finished viewing the information, click on the Close push button to
close the window.

To access the Seal Kits availability. Click on the Seal Kit push button to open
the window.

The Seal kits window provides a list of available kits for the cylinder group by
engineering change level.

Each line item displays seal kit part number, description, service status, consumer
suggested price (USD), group effective level-in and group effective level-out.

The description identifies the kits for standard, oversize 30,000, and oversize 60,000.

Double click on a line item will open the seal kit detail window to view the
individual seals or select a kit and click on Show Consist. See next page for
more detail.

When you are finished viewing the information, click on the Close push button to
close the window.

To access a seal kit bill of material. Double click on a line item or select a line
items and clicks on the Show Consist push button.

The Seal kits Detail window provides a list of seals that are included in the kit. Each line
item contains seal part number, description, quantity, suggested consumer price (USD),
and service status.

Double click on a line item displays the part number in the Selected PN field..
To close the window, click on the Close push button
To close all cylinder group consist windows, Click on Clear Report

Printer, Preview or Save to a text file:


Print From the File drop down menu, select Print and the report name. The
option Printer sends the results to a local printer, File saves to a text file for
word processing, and Preview to view the results on the screen.
Save From the File down menu, select Save As., and the report name. Key in
the file name and click on the save push button. The file is a text format for
Microsoft products such as Excel or Words.

To access Where Used information:
Double click on the Where Used icon in the Cylinders & Seals window to open the
Cylinder Parts Where Used window.

The Cylinder Parts Where Used window allows you to trace a part number from apiece
part up to the machine models. The part number search must be a cylinder group
component. It could be a piece part, kit, assembly or group number

The Cylinder Parts Where Used window provides part number, description, and services
status view as follow:
What Seal Kits contain the seal part number
What Groups contain the part number
What group contain a seal kit
What serial number prefix, machine model, and families contain a cylinder group

Close push buttons - closes this window.


Reset push button reset fields to blank.

To access what kits contain the seal part number:
Key in a part number or portion of the part number in the Part or Group No field.
Click on the Search push button or press the Enter key.
Select and click on the seal line item in the list.
Click on the Seal Kit push button. The Kit window opens and displays all kits uses
the selected seal.

To access what groups contain the part number:


Key in a part number or portion of the part number in the Part or Group No field.
Click on the Search push button or press the Enter key.
Select and click on a line item in the list.
Click on the Groups push button. The Groups window opens and displays all group
uses the selected part number.
The Groups window displays icons to access the group consist or physical data
information for the selected group number.

To access what groups contain a seal kit:
From the Seal Kit window. Select and click on seal kit line item in the list.
Click on the Groups push button. The Groups window opens and displays all group
uses the selected seal kit part number.

To access what serial number prefix, machine model, and families contain a cylinder
group
From the Groups window. Select and click on group line item in the list.
Click on the Sales Model push button. The sale model window opens and displays all
machines use the selected group part number.

To access Group, Assemblies & Seals Physical Data information:
From the Cylinder & Seals window, double-click on the Groups, Assemblies &
Seals icon to open the window.

Cylinder groups assemblies and seals descriptions are displayed when this window opens.
It is primarily used to find the indicative information for a part. It has two functions:
A. If you know the part number or portion of it.
1. Type a part number in the Part Number filed or type as much as you know.
2. Click on the Search or press the Enter key

If you typed only a portion of a part number, all the part numbers contains
the value you typed are displayed in the left list box.
Select a part number, the corresponded description is highlighted.
If no description is highlighted, that is because the part number is unknown
and no further information is available.
Select a description, the corresponding part numbers are displayed.
3. Click on the OK to access the indicative information for the selected part
number or double click on a description.

B. If you know the part description and want to access the indicative information
including dimension data.
1. Double click on the description or select the description and click on the
OK push-button.

To access the cylinder groups from the Groups, Assemblies, and Seals
physical data window, double click on the Cylinder Groups to open the window.

The cylinder group window provides search capability for Cat group part number and
displays indicative parts information. The information consists of bore diameter, rod
diameter, cylinder function, cylinder head design, mounting type, description, close
length, stroke length, maximum pressure KPA, bolt, right or left use indicator and the
service level status.

Search is based on group part number, bore diameter, rod diameter, cylinder function,
cylinder head design, and/or mounting type.

When a value is selected of any drop down. Only the applicable information is listed
in the other drop downs. Selection does not have to be in order.

All cylinder groups windows have Consist Workplace and Where Used icons
available.

If you know the part number or portion of it:
1. Type a part number in the Part Number field or type as much as you know.
2. Click on the Search or press the Enter key.
If you typed a portion of a part number, all the part numbers contains the value you
typed will display in the list box.
3. Select a part number to view the information in the designated fields. Or scroll
to view more data.
4. Click on the Reset push to reset all fields to blank. This is recommended
before you perform another search.
5. Click on Close to close this window.

Find Caterpillar part numbers by physical data or dimension

If you do not know the part numbers:


1. Key in a measurement number you want to search for in an entry field. The
system use the between numbers + and 5% of the keyed number.
When a text has two entries fields. These are used to search between two
numbers that the difference is greater than 5 percent of the keyed number.
Use the tab key to jump from an entry field to another and key in the size
numbers.
2. Click on the drop downs and select your choices.
3. Click on the Search or press the Enter key.
All part numbers that match the search criteria are displayed in the list box.
Select a line item to view the information in the designated fields. Or scroll to
view more data.
4. Click on Reset to reset all fields to blank before you search again.
5. Click on Close to close this window

When a value is selected of any drop down. Only the applicable information is
listed in the other drop downs.

At the event, the part number has been canceled and replace by another part number.
The system enables the Replace Info push button to click and view the replace
parts.

To access the telescoping cylinder groups from the Groups, Assemblies, and
Seals physical data window, double click on the Telescoping Cylinder Groups to
open the window.

The telescoping cylinder group window provides search capability for Cat group part
number and displays indicative parts information. The information consists of 2 bore
diameters, 2 rod diameters, cylinder function, description, suggested consumer price
(USD), 2 stroke length, close length, pin size for rod and cap end, and the service level
status.

Search criteria by part number, first bore diameter, first rod diameter, and/or cylinder
function.

To access the front rear suspension cylinder groups from the Groups,
Assemblies, and Seals physical data window, double click on the Front-Rear
Suspension Groups to open the window.

The front-rear suspension cylinder group window provides search capability for Cat
group part number and displays indicative parts information. The information consists of
bore diameter, rod diameter, front or rear indicator, description, suggested consumer
price (USD), eye or pin size, and the service level status.

Search criteria by group number, bore diameter, rod diameter, and/or the indicator. For
the front use the letter F and for the rear use the letter R.

To access the rod assembly from the Groups, Assemblies, and Seals physical
data window, double click on the Rod Assembly part numbers to open the window.

The rod assembly window provides search capability for Cat rod assembly part number
and displays indicative parts information. The information consists of rod length, rod
diameter, diameter for sphere or ball or eye, rod eye type, description, suggested
consumer price (USD), how fastened, bearing indicator, grease zerk indicator, thread
size, and service level status.

Search criteria by rod assembly number, or rod length, or rod diameter, or rod eye type.

consumer price (USD), bearing type, grease zerk indicator, and service level status.

the back up number ring part number, suggested price and material type for the back up
ring.

The piston seal window provides search capability for Cat part number and displays
indicative parts information. The information consists of part number, bore diameter,
oversize indicator (standard, .030, and .060), seal type, description, suggested consumer
price in USD, groove width, groove diameter, and the service level status.

Search criteria by part number, bore diameter, oversize indicator, or seal type.

This window is extremely useful to find oversize piston seal. Especially for those
cylinder groups that do not have seal kit availability. Notice, when the seal type is
selected, a picture is displayed for shape verification.

From the Cylinder & Seals window, double-click on the Cylinder Summary icon
to open window.

The cylinder and seals summary window is used to quickly find the part numbers
for the assemblies, reman, and seal kits. Search result displays part numbers and
indicative information for cylinder assembly, rod assembly, diameters, length,
reman part number (standard and oversized), and seal kit part numbers (standard,
oversize 3, and oversize 6) each for engineering ins and outs. Search criteria by
the group part number, or by the sales model, or by the cylinder functions.

If you know the group number or portion of it, you can find the part and its description.
1. Type the group number in the Group Number field or type as much of the part
number as you know.
2. Click on the Search push-button or press the Enter key to submit the inquiry. If
you typed only a portion of a part number, all the part numbers contains the
value you typed will display in the list box.
3. Select a line item of the list box, the corresponding data displays in the
designated.
4. Click on Close to close this window.
