JD-1C Legal Profession Atty. Ronel U. Buenaventura
(A) I considered taking up law as another step for self
development and growth. Being in the accountancy profession for almost 5 years, I was exposed to different issues on tax. I really enjoyed the planning and research aspects of taxes during our audit seasons. I believe that getting a law degree and combining it with accounting knowledge is the best way to handle complex tax issues.
Apart from self growth, I also considered taking up law
because im genuinely passionate about helping others. I didn't go to law school for the money, the power, or the influence. I just wanted to be able to provide a level of assistance to people when they're faced with situations that are so above and beyond the norm that they need someone knowledgable and credible to rely on. A carreer as a lawyer is an extraordinary calling. And being able to help others justifies my self fulfillment.
(B) There exists a stigma in law profession. According to
some, lawyers are characterized as selfish, liars, corrupt, and arrogant. But I am not part of them.
I see lawyers as defenders of the truth and enemy of liars. I
see a lawyer as person who defends those who cannot defend themselves by virtue of their economic status. He is not greedy of power and money. He is neither boastful nor proud, but has a humble heart. He is credible, intelligent, and morally upright. He is a person of integrity.
