ABSTRACT

Forest destruction can result in material and non-material losses. Quoted from news online
antaranews.com on 14 september 2015 due to a long dry season resulted in two land in the production
forest area and two fields enter the forest area of burning production that is Mount Lintang and Mount
Langkaras in District Tambang Ulang, in addition to fire two land in Production forest areas, fires also
occur in paddy fields of farmers who have harvested rice.
This research was conducted to identify the forest damage that occurred in District Bajuin, Bati -
bati, Pelaihari and Tambang Ulang. Identify forest destruction using remote sensing technology using
landsat 8 OLI / IRS image utilizing vagetation index value in the form of vagetation density generated
from the algorithm NDVI (Normalized Difference vagetacion Index).
The results showed that forest destruction in Bajuin, Bati - Bati, Pelaihari and Tambang Ulang
sub - districts was divided into 3 classes namely severe forest damage, moderate forest degradation, and
non - forest destruction. The total area of forest area is 19,383,46 hectare. Wide area with heavy forest
damage 2,424,88 hectare or 12,51%. Area with medium forest destruction level 5,979,52 hectare or
30,84% and area without forest damage area 10.979, 05 hectare or 56,64%.
