SITUATION:
Refinaria Presidente Bernardes de Cubatao (RPBC)
was experiencing production losses of approximately
8% each summer due to high ambient temperatures.
The refinery, with a capacity of 170,000 barrels per
day, was responsible for 11% of Brazils by-product
production, making stable production an especially
important consideration for the company.
Cooling Towers to aid Recovery
Program, Kazakhstan
SITUATION:
When the operators of a petrochemical plant
in Kazakhstan suffered a complete plant shut-
down due to an extremely harsh winter, the
company instituted a recovery program to make
up for production losses incurred whilst the
plant was being repaired. In order to ensure that
the production recovery program would attain its
targets during the summer months, the customer
required chilling packages to cool utility water at
the facility by 30C.
SOLUTION:
Aggreko engineered, installed, commissioned and
operated a chilling package that successfully lowered
the temperature of the refinerys Fluid Catalytic
Cracking Unit (FCCU) by 12C. By utilising Aggreko, the
refinery was able to maintain its production capacity
during the heat of the summer without purchasing a
permanent temperature control solution which would
sit unutilised during the winter months.
SOLUTION:
Aggreko provided four packages comprised of
10 MW cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps,
generators and ancillary items, with the packages
being installed, commissioned and operated at
strategic locations within the refinery. By utilising
Aggreko until permanent chilling capacity could
be added, the customer was able to achieve the
production targets they had set.
Seasonal Chilling for a refinery,
China
SITUATION:
BASF, one of the largest petrochemical companies
in the world, required a seasonal chilling solution
for their facility located in Nanjing Luhe Economic
Development Zone. BASFs permanent chilling
equipment was unable to provide the necessary
cooling during the heat of the summer months.
However, installing more permanent capacity would
result in the plant maintaining unutilised equipment
for much of the year.
Chilling to prevent emergency
shutdown, Singapore
SITUATION:
A damaged shell and tube heat exchanger at Mitsui
Elastomers Singapore had resulted in a shutdown
at the facility. In order to meet its production
commitment to its customers, Mitsui urgently
required a replacement chiller for the duration of
the repairs.
SOLUTION:
Aggreko worked with BASF to provide process
cooling equipment to the Nanjing facilty during
the summer months. Because Aggreko was able
to rapidly mobilise and demobilise equipment,
BASF was able to hire additional cooling capacity
only when required, ensuring that production
at the facility was unaf fected by seasonal
temperature challenges.
SOLUTION:
Aggreko provided 4.5 MW turn-key chilling
package that comprised fluid of chillers, generators,
distribution boards, cables and ancillaries items.
The package was installed and commissioned
within a week of the initial customer enquiry and
enabled Mitsui to conduct repairs on the damaged
equipment without the need to stop production,
helping them to meet their contractual obligations.
