Oil and Gas have never been more topical in the Caspian and Mediterranean Seas, especially
during the crisis in Ukraine. The oil majors have taken center-stage as a result of new
hydrocarbon discoveries and the upcoming development of a huge gas infrastructure that will
bring the Azerbaijani gas to the heart of Europe. There is a symbiotic relationship between oil and
gas supplies and economic development, that is becoming increasingly fundamental for these
regions, thus oil majors are exploring for more discoveries.
The Caspian and Eastern Mediterranean regions are among the most dynamic areas in the world
today for exploration and production of oil and gas. The investment opportunities in oil and gas
infrastructure, the final investment decision of the Shah Deniz gas consortium in Azerbaijan, the
transit of the Shah Deniz gas via the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) to Turkey and Trans
Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to Europe, are all aiming to strengthen the European energy security and
to create economic development and cooperation with the Caspian and Mediterranean regions.
Moreover, the recent hydrocarbon discoveries in Eastern Mediterranean, specifically in Leviathan,
Tamar, and Aphrodite gas fields, the geopolitical and economic challenges, and the commercial
opportunities for LNG trade, will lead to investments, thus strengthening the security of supply in
the European Union.
Energy Stream CMG GmbHresponded to these developments of the oil & gas industry, with the
organization of this exclusive international oil and gas forum in London, United Kingdom: the 1st
Annual London Oil and Gas Forum 2014, was inaugurated on 10th October, 2014 in London.
The London Forum brought together senior government officials, oil & gas corporate leaders,
pipeline consortia, financiers and global experts from the Caspian and Eastern Mediterranean
regions, Europe and North America. They all shared their knowledge and experience and discuss
current developments and energy investments in London the international capital of the oil
industry.
The Forum was characterized by the high caliber of speakers reflecting experience, competence
and knowledge which was shared with all delegates. The Forum managed to balance commercial
requirements of energy development along the southern corridor, taking into account
developments in the East Mediterranean from both a commercial and geopolitical perspective.
The Forum, among other things, enabled the dissemination of important and specialized
information, while fruitful discussion reflected on factors that are considered as companies and
governments weigh up serious investment decisions in transporting natural gas from the East
Mediterranean or the Caspian into Europe at a time of global challenges.
