Goals/Objectives:
1. Students will be able to show that the distance between two rational numbers on the number line is the absolute value.
2. Students will be able to understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse.
3. Students will be able to apply the additive inverse and absolute value rules to real world situations.
4. Students will be able to de ne absolute value, rational numbers, and additive inverse.

Learner Analysis:
To determine the learning styles of students, a questionnaire is given or a session of True Colors will be given to gain information.
Students will learn their learning style and tips on how to use their learning style to their advantage.To determine the most effective
learning tools/ strategies to be used in the instructional unit is based off the data collected from the learning styles of the students. I
will have a variety of tools for all of the learners but knowing how many students will be in each group will better prepare me for
providing enough and effect resources for those students.
Assessment:
Students will be given a variety of formative and summative assessments throughout the instructional unit to determine the extent
to which the students achieved the primary objectives in Step 3. Students will be given multiple choice, true/false, open ended, short
answer, essay, and performance tasks to show mastery of the goals stated in Step 3 along with the standard. Iwould want the
students to know and be able to apply the standard. Acceptable performance will be the correct answer with an explanation. I can
ensure expert judgement by referring to the standard to make sure all components were covered. Feedback will be in the form of
class review, peer review, and one on one review with the teacher. Students will receive detailed feedback on their formative and
summative assignments.
