WHEN AND WHERE:

It is the most important religious celebration. In Cajamarca and in Cusco it acquires special
peculiar characteristics, whose central activities are developed, on Thursday, after the Sunday
of the Holy Trinity, constituting a regional holiday, recognized by law as a non-working holiday.

HISTORY:

In the Catholic world this feast recalls the institution of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, in order
to revere the body of Christ, present in the Eucharist, through a public worship and solemn
adoration, love and gratitude. In the Latin Church, on Thursday, after the Sunday of the Holy
Trinity, we commemorate this genuine religious celebration, whose origins go back to the
thirteenth century.

WHAT HAPPENS AND WHO IS THERE:

In Cajamarca a solemn mass is celebrated, then a procession is made around the Plaza de Armas
that culminates with the entrance of the Santsimo in the Cathedral. Also made carpets made of
sawdust, and there is a fair that usually lasts 3 days, with bullfights, etc.

The provincial commune of Cajamarca is also carrying out complementary acts to the festival,
as a gastronomic fair, a conversation with the participation of distinguished people in order to
maintain the tradition.
Es la celebracin religiosa ms importante. En Cajamarca y en el Cusco adquiere caractersticas
peculiares especiales, cuyas actividades centrales se desarrollan, el jueves, despus del domingo
de la Santsima Trinidad, que constituye un feriado regional, reconocido por la ley como feriado
no laboral.

En el mundo catlico, esta fiesta recuerda la institucin de la Eucarista en el Jueves Santo, para
reverenciar el cuerpo de Cristo, presente en la Eucarista, a travs de un culto pblico y una
adoracin solemne, amor y gratitud. En la Iglesia latina, el jueves, despus del domingo de la
Santsima Trinidad, conmemoramos esta genuina celebracin religiosa, cuyos orgenes se
remontan al siglo XIII.

En Cajamarca se celebra una misa solemne, luego se realiza una procesin alrededor de la Plaza
de Armas que culmina con la entrada del Santsimo en la Catedral. Tambin fabricamos
alfombras hechas de aserrn, y hay una feria que generalmente dura 3 das, con corridas de
toros, etc.

La comuna provincial de Cajamarca tambin est llevando a cabo actos complementarios al

festival, como una feria gastronmica, una conversacin con la participacin de personas
distinguidas para mantener la tradicin.
