OLEAD 409

Week 10 LID Paper

Almost from the first year in role with GE, I stood out among others not only because of my

clinical expertise but the passion and enthusiasm to teach others helped me to separate myself

from others. My passion and clinical expertise was not the only factor helped me to become a

leader, I also took advantage of all the online Crotonville leadership courses that helps to build

Leadership skills around the GE beliefs and culture. I always believed that I had the capability to

become a leader but Crotonville courses helped me to prioritize and sort out where I needed to

make improvement so that I can be effective leader to my team.

Two years ago, I was promoted as a Interventional Radiology Team Lead, during this time I have

created continuous performance development workshops and online sharing made simple

(SMS) calls, where I gave opportunity to team members to share their experiences from the

field, so that we as a team can learn from each other and exchange ideas around specific topic

of that call.

Since I still work in the field, I have created opportunities to bring the other team members with

me to Mayo Clinic to observe FDA trial cases to give them the exposure of highly advanced

cases. This not only helped them improve their knowledge around the products but also

improved the inclusiveness in the team.

Currently, I continue to work as a team lead and what do I need to do next to develop myself as

a manager. Here is my plan for my next role;

- Complete my Bachelors degree from Penn State in Organizational Leadership.

- Pursue my Masters degree in Health Administration.

- Take additional GE Crotonville Leadership courses such as; Inspiring Leadership and

Essential Skills for Leaders.

- Increase my network with other people in GE Leadership roles.

- Create meaningful involvement with my team and impose reflective learning from each

other.

- Organize the team and divide assignments and set expectations to team members.

- Involve members of the team more after because working in a virtual world is a

challenge. Set up calls and activities to build the teamness feeling to a team.

- As a team lead take on more responsibilities and continue to work with academic

centers.

- While establishing solid relationship with academic centers, also train other memes of

the team, eventually assign that person and pass the account to him/her increase the

visibility and accountability.

- Bring the expertise to same level among the team members and look for other

opportunity for my personal growth.
