General Instructions
1. All Questions are compulsory.
2. The Question paper consists of questions divided into 4 sections A,B ,C, Dand E.
Section A comprises of five questions of 01 mark each, Section B comprises of five
questions of 02 marks each, Section C comprises of twelve questions of 03 marks
each, Section D comprises of one questions of 04 marks each, Section E comprises of
three questions of 05 marks each
3. There is no overall choice.

Section A

Q1. Write the dimension of work done and kinetic energy.

Q2. If mass of one electron is 9.11 1031 , then how many electrons would weigh in
1 kg.

Q3. State the law of conservation of liner momentum.

Q4. Write the expression for moments of inertia of a hallow sphere.

Q5. Give the reason, why work done by the centripetal force will be zero.

Section B

Q6. What is the error in the estimation of g if the length and time period of an oscillating
pendulum have errors of 1% and 2%.

Q7. An object weighing 70 kg is kept in a lift. Find its weight as a recorded by a spring
balance when the lift
a) Moves upwards with a uniform velocity of 10 m/s
b) Moves upwards with a uniform acceleration of 2.2 2

Q8. What will be the ratio of the momentum of masses if one of the mass is n times as
heavy as the other, have equal Kinetic Energy.

Q9. What will be the angle of projection at which maximum height and range are equal.
Q10. Find the T1 and T2.

Section C

Q11. A hungry hummingbird flies forward and backward. Its motion is shown in the
following graph of horizontal position x vs. time t.

What is the instantaneous velocity of the hummingbird at t=1sec.

Q12. A mass of 3 kg rests on a horizontal plane. The plane is gradually inclined until at an
angle = 30 with the horizontal, the mass just begins to slide. What is the coefficient of
static friction between the block and the surface?

Q13. Derive an expression for kinetic energy of a rotating body in terms of moment of
inertia.

Q14. An object, attached to a 0,5m string, does 4 rotation in one second. Then find

a) Period
b) Tangential velocity
c) Angular velocity of the object.

Q15.

In the picture given above F pulls a box having 4kg mass from point A to B. If the friction
constant between surface and box is 0,3; find the work done by F, work done by friction force
and work done by resultant force.
Q16. Different forces are applied to three objects having equal masses. Forces pull objects to
height h. Find the work done by the applied forces on objects and work done by the
gravitational force.

Q17. Derive an expression for acceleration due to gravity at a altitude h above the surface of
earth.

Q18. Show that square of the time period is directly proportional to cube of the radius of the
orbit of the revolving satellite.

Q19. Two small kids weighing 10 kg and 15 kg respectively are trying to balance a seesaw of
total length 5 m, with the fulcrum at the centre. If one of the kids is sitting at an end, where
should the other sit.

Q20. Three blocks of masses m1, m2 and m3 are connected as shown in the figure. All the
surfaces are frictionless and the string and the pulleys are light. Find the acceleration of m1.

Q21. Calculate the total torque acting on the body shown in figure about the point 0.

Q22. Particles of masses 1 g, 2 g, 3 g,. , 100 g are kept at the marks 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, ,
100 cm respectively on a metre scale. Find the moment of inertia of the system of particles
about a perpendicular bisector of the metre scale.
Section D

Q23. Derive an expression for acceleration due to gravity at a depth d below the surface of
earth.
Section E

Q24. A particle is fired vertically upward from earth's surface and it goes upto a maximum
height of 6400 km. Find the initial speed of the particle.

Q25. The pulleys in figure are identical, each having a radius R and moment of inertia I. Find
the acceleration of the block M.

Q26. Find the moment of inertia of the following figure

Q23. Find the acceleration due to gravity of the moon at a point 1000 km above the moon's
surface. The mass of the moon is 7.4 1022 kg and its radius is 1740 km.
