An age of devolution is a phrase that suggests the coming extinction of the human
species. A number of researchers, serious scientists from the realms of physics, biology,
and genetics, suggest calamitous events yet to come. Of this sphere of inquiry these are
real scientists, and not pseudoscientist you find in the ranks of philosophies like
psychology, sociology and criminology. Hardcore science realism is addressing human
species regression that suggests eventual human extinction. A “devolving” state of affairs
is not meant in a biological sense, but in regard to intellectual ascendency.
As to the idea of devolution, or de-evolution, that is the brief allegation regarding the
current state of humanity. As used in this context, “devolving” is reference to a stage-by-
stage process by which the human species eventually culturally and socially degenerates
to an irreversible state of societal apocalypse. Out of selfish immaturity and intellectual
debasement, collective regression eventually erodes civilized capacity. For instance, in
post-modern cultures, the stupidity of mass marketing, grotesque acts of consumerism
and gluttonous consumption, are symptomatic of “devolution”. And, there are a number
of related signs of which socio-economic disparity is another.
While vast numbers of people would prefer ignorance in blissful comfort, the reality
suggests a gloomy eventuality for the human population. By now, some futurists claim
human civilization should have achieved far great advancement. Regardless, throughout
the daily spectrum of “edutainment”, poly-babble, and pseudoscience foolishness, a false
sense of security masks looming global darkness. Hope springs eternal for politicians,
pundits, pontiffs and the public, except for the few who sense something is wrong.
For the onset of the age of devolution, the alleged “civilized” human species, takes
prideful arrogance in the profanity of its self-destruction. Stupidity commits the same acts
of war, famine, disease, poverty and oppressions repeatedly. Some will argue, yes we
know all this. Okay then why has not the species elevated itself to higher planes of
ascendency? A philosopher from the 1800s lamented that even though people claim
knowledge of history that does not infer anyone learns to make better decisions or
advance the human species. Inhumane behaviors remain widespread.

Additionally, neither does this perspective ensure humans learn from their
experiences. From a classical or rational criminological school of thought, the question
often arises as to why? Such is the most complex inquiry in one three-letter word, of
which there are no easy answers. After every serious criminal incident, which the media
tends to sensationalize, the press conferences are enraptured and otherwise entertained by
that singular interrogatory. Why did the crime occur? Why did the suspect do it?
Why this and why that and so on, the simplistic answer, the “single bullet” theory,
strives for an easy trouble-free rationalization. The answer to a diverse range of human
behaviors, particularly those that are “anti-social” and cause harm invites a complex
discussion. There are no stress-free tranquil answers. Yet, the simplicity by which most
people apply cause-effect solvability factors is rampant across mainstream society.
Collectively, culture pays a stiff price for presumed “learned” responses that come in
sound bites, as oppose to well-researched fact driven critical analysis.
As result, where superficial answers suffice instead of in-depth evidence supported
validation, there are no guarantees people will remedy social maladies. Change, creativity
and innovation, as well as the advancement of the human species, will suffer. In fact, the
opposite occurs when stupidity replaces logic and reason. Very little learning takes place
for the success of societal enlightenment. Looking back through time, empires rose and
fell, from Rome to England, from Egypt to Spain, as collapse is inevitable.
“Super powers” have come and gone, other life forms, about 90% or more, are now
extinct. Social processes and everything attached, freedom, progress, equality and due
process, eventually wane as self-evolving differentiation falter. Earlier times can be
characterized by that which started with great adventure, exploration and pioneering
enterprise. Later, given to the selfishness of human nature, cultures malformed and in
time, became internal threats to future existence and viability.
Excessive materialism, gluttonous consumerism, and obsessions with immediate
gratification, as well as fixations on living the “dream”, are arrogantly allowed to
undermine intellectual and more enlightened pursuits. In order to safeguard profit
continuity to the higher yet restricted levels of socio-economic status, political and
corporate corruption are often ignored. Or, such collusions influence institutional politics
lower standards, change laws and otherwise benefit the few.

By the end of the 21st century, scientists warn that nearly 50% of the animal species on
planet earth will be extinct. Others who have devoted extensive study to the issue of
human termination point to an earlier timeline. Historically, no singular species has
demonstrated an ability to survive for any prolonged span of time. Multiple theories for
eventual self-extermination of the human species suggest a variety of ways by which
termination might occur. From one perspective, human DNA continues a gradual
degeneration whereby dangerous mutations move from one generation to the next.
As organic mutations occur, the intellectual capacity, that is to say particularly critical
thinking and problem solving capabilities, deform to less competent levels. According to
some, these harmful effects are increasing at a more rapid pace. As a result, while
thinking ability regresses over time, organic deterioration reaches a zero tolerance level.
As a result, a weaker human is more susceptible to widespread disease, which eventually
eliminates the population. Physical weakness and frail conditions, along with diminishing
I.Q. capacity, will reach a point where humans ultimately die off.
Among the diversity of opinion on human extinction, some may argue climate change,
while some assert a perspective of physiological devolution. Sill though, others proclaim
socio-economic basis in things like war, viral pandemic, ecologic exploitation and so on.
Yet, most people in mainstream society, adherent to a status quo mediocrity and an
unscientific affinity for supernatural or extraterrestrial “cultism”, do not want to consider
the prospect of human extinction. Instead, hope springs eternal in gluttonous
consumerism, and “mutant” generations are the stuff of sci-fi movies.
However, in the last 4.5 billion years, five major catastrophic events have wipe out
most living creatures on the planet. For a few scientific researchers, the sixth will be
greater than the last. In varying degrees or ranges, human beings are a dying species
living in a self-imposed decaying environment. The terrain is that which people,
particularly the top 1% have exploited for greedy materialistic purposes. No one knows
for certain when it will happen, but a number of geneticists are convinced the prospects
are inevitable that humans will die off. In a particular biological online publication,
researchers suggest that the humankind have entered the “sixth mass extinction”. Unlike
the previous cataclysmic events, such as asteroids, volcanoes and climate shifting, the
one that is coming is predominantly a human instigation.

One writer laments, among many, in an article appearing in an online news service, by
posing the question, to what has the human race devolved? Devolution here does not
refer to a biological or evolutionary process, but the social descent of the human species
to a lesser psychophysical level. As if such a level could be accurately measured, the
figurative inference is toward a more primal state of existence. However, the assertion is
not purely symbolic. On the contrary, the expression is used to denote a number of
adverse factors affecting the final stages of human existence.
In regard to the claim previously, after conducting a survey of major global events, the
general conclusion was drawn by way of observational inference that people are
descending to primitive levels of interactivity. Of that, the perception suggests the human
species is as destructive and counterproductive as ever. And, not much will change. Some
would assert that humans are acting increasingly in stupider ways. Of that stupidity,
based on a number of aspects, there is very little hope for a more evolved species.
Controversial to say the least, and affected by diverse points of view, one study
reported in an international news publication suggested intellectual capacity of humans
peaked decades ago. Meanwhile, in terms of modern educational efforts, the broad
spectrum of instruction does not change very much. Bureaucratic mechanism remains
consistently stifled by things called outcomes, rubrics, templates, and stuff done
repeatedly, achieving less than lofty results. Subsequent generations, with notable
exceptions, decrease the prospects of productive ascendency even more.
As time goes by, one United Kingdom newspaper posed a question in the title of an
article on the issue of human I.Q. levels. It simply asked whether or not humans were
becoming stupid. With that, the attendant discussion ensues as to the capability of long-
term problem solving capacity. Additionally, if I.Q. test scores are eroding in a
downward trend, with 10 or more points regressively, future prospects for the human
species may not be very promising. The slippage in points could be higher.
Based on studies conducted in the U.K., Denmark, Australia and the U.S., the
devolving trend suggests a potential danger. Some researchers offer the dismal prospects
that as populations grow, the great numbers of humans will be less intelligent. As such,
the possibility exists that by 2050, a serious “human devolution” effect could hasten the
eventual demise of the species, and thus, the age of devolution.
