ABSTRACT

This work was carried out from one of the most recent lines of research of the
Environmental Psychology, the Psychology of the Sustainability with the aim to
investigate the relation between Sustainable Behaviors (General Ecological Behavior -
Altruism), Affinity towards Diversity, and how they impact on psychological well-
being. A descriptive, correlational study was carried out with a sample of 160 subjects
(82 male, 78 female), aged between 21 and 70 years (M = 44.56, SD = 14.60), in the
general population of the city of San Luis. A self-administered questionnaire composed
of: ad hoc questionnaire developed to evaluate socio-demographic and socio-economic
data, Kaiser's General Ecological Behavior Scale (1998). Adapted in Argentina by
Rodrguez & Garca-Quiroga (2014). Scale of Altruistic Actions (Corral & Pinheiro
2004). Adapted in Argentina by Rodrguez (2015), Affinity Towards Diversity Scale
(Corral, et al, 2009). Adapted in San Luis, Argentina by Rodrguez (2015), Ryffs
Psychological Well-Being Scale (Daz et al, 2006). Adapted in San Luis Argentina by
Sebastianelli, Rodrguez and Garca Quiroga (2012). The results show that
Psychological Well-Being is directly associated with General Ecological Behavior,
Altruism and Affinity for Diversity. These people are involved in topics related to the
care and preservation of natural and social resources (give away clothing, recycle and
not waste resources), to be more collaborative and friendly with their environment.
They are subjects who enjoy providing disinterested help to their peers (contributing
with free-food places, geriatrics, schools, donating blood, etc.). They consider that all
subjects have the same rights to express their opinions, emotions and tastes (they enjoy
the different places of the physical, natural and social environment), what could be
perceived in carrying out the aforementioned behaviors, a better control of the
environment, of themselves and thus developing social skills to relate to others, which
would have a positive impact, when experiencing Greater Psychological Wellbeing.
