Derivation

New words formed by adding eithet prefixes or sufixes.

Ex: Care-ful, Un-happy

Conversion

A change in the function of a word.

Ex: Verb Increase, noun Increase.

Clipping

It is reducing a word of more than one syllable to a shorter form.

Ex: Condominium Condo

Blending

The combination of two separate forms to produce a single new term.

Ex: motor hotel "motel"

Compounding
The joining of two separate words to produce a single form.

Ex: bookcase, sunburn.
