The biotic and abiotic surrounding of an organism, or population, and includes particularly the
factors that have an influence in their survival, development and evolution.

Components of the Environment

1. Lithosphere the earths outer layer consisting of the soil and rocks. 2 types of lithosphere:
oceanic lithosphere and continental lithosphere.

The application of science and engineering principles to improve the natural environment, to
provide healthy water, air, and earth for human habitation and for other organisms, and to remediate
polluted sites. It involves the following area:
