ABSTRACT

Future elderly are mental changes such as memory decline, quickly forgotten ,
easily sadness, irritability , easy frustration , loneliness and fear of missing thus
affecting the independence of the elderly happiness. The objective of the research
is to determine Social Support Relationship With Elderly Happiness Nanggalo
Puskesmas of Padang

Design of this study using cross sectional analytic approach.. Collecting data has
been carried out in April 2015 to January 2016. The number of samples in this
study were 42 elderly. The Instrument in this study using a questionnaire. Data
analyzed by computerized using univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square
test.

The results showed that more than half ( 56.8 % ) of elderly happy, more than half
( 52.3 % ) have had the support of elderly social support. There was a significant
relationship between social support and happiness in Puskesmas Nanggalo (p=
0,007).

Based on the above results it can be concluded that there is a significant

relationship between social support and happiness in Puskesmas Nanggalo.
Nanggalo Puskemas the clerk advised to provide counseling to the families of the
elderly to provide social support to the elderly
