organ trafficking is the recruitment and transportation of living or dead persons, with the objective

of extracting their organs, for economic gain, through the use of brute force, abuse of power or
condition of vulnerability and an economic agreement.

According to the O.M.S. in 2005, around 66 000 kidney transplants, 21 000 liver transplants and
6000 heart transplants were performed in the world.

The poorest countries show greater export of organs, such as India, Pakistan, Philippines and
China, India is one of the countries that export more human organs, it is estimated that around
2000 Indians sell a kidney every year.

Pakistan performed in 2005, 2000 kidney transplants and two thirds were performed to
foreigners, in the Philippines that 110 of 468 transplants were performed to foreigners.

Approximately 12,000 kidney and liver transplants were reported in China, but exact transplant
values for foreigners are not known, according to media reports that about half were for non-
Chinese citizens.
