Teenagers are youngsters between 13 and 19 years of age.

As teenage years are the period that most of our growing

occurs, it is of vital importance that teenagers stay fit and healthy to facilitate the process.

In my opinion, the best way for juveniles to gain good health and fitness is through having a balanced diet, an active
lifestyle and a good nights sleep.

Eating a balanced diet is a vital part of maintaining good health as it provides the essential nutrients required for growth.
Each of our meals should contain the 7 components of a balanced diet - carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, unsaturated
fats, protein, fibre and water - for optimal health. Whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, poultry and fish
contribute to a balanced diet. Organic foods are better by comparison with inorganic ones as the former are grown or
farmed without the use of artificial chemicals, hormones and antibiotics which can be detrimental to our health. Since
about 60 percent of our body is made up of water, consuming adequate water is also an important factor. Drinking 8 to
10 glasses of water is the ideal amount for an adolescents body to function well.

The human body is built for movement. If we lead a sedentary lifestyle, health problems are prone to arise. Hence it is
wise to exercise a few times a week for about half an hour each session. Even doing domestic chores, which brightens
your parents up, is better than nothing at all. Cardiovascular exercise helps to strengthen our heart and lungs while
stretching reduces the risk of injury by increasing flexibility. Strength training helps to strengthen our muscles. Other
benefits of doing exercises include preventing obesity and osteoporosis, improving blood circulation and combating
depression.

Sleep is crucial to our health because when we sleep, our body undergoes repair, growth and detoxification. For
instance, sleep is involved in the healing and repair of our heart and blood vessels. As such, teenage boys and girls should
get quality sleep of about 9 hours each night. Sleep improves brain performance and therefore teenagers with sufficient
sleep tend to learn and memorise more effectively. Thus, they also tend to perform better academically. Apart from that,
sleep also helps to prevent inflammation and obesity, spur creativity, reduce stress levels and boost our immune system,
among many other advantages. Therefore, it is important to cultivate good sleep habits like going to bed at the same
time every night and make sure that your bedroom is dark and quiet when you go to sleep.

Although there are numerous other ways for teenagers to stay fit and healthy, the 3 factors mentioned above are some
of the most effective, from my point of view. Undeniably, teenagers today face more challenges and pressure. It is
therefore essential for them to realise the importance of staying fit and healthy in order to live life to its fullest and
tackle challenges and problems that come along with confidence.

The behavior engaged in by Bullies: Bullying

In colloquial speech, bullying is most often used to describe a form of harassment associated with being
performed by a child who is older, stronger, or otherwise more powerful socially, upon weaker peers.
Bullying can occur in situations including in school or college/university, the workplace, by neighbours,
and between countries. Whatever the situation the power structure is typically evident between the
bully and victim. It seems to those outside the relationship that the bully's power depends only upon the
perception of the victim, with the victim being too intimidated to put up effective resistance. However
the victim usually has just cause to be afraid of the bully due to the threat and actually carrying out of
physical/sexual violence, or loss of livelihood. Bullying is behind most claims of discrimination in the
workplace.

Types of bullying

Bullying is when someone repeatedly acts or says things to have power over another person. Bullies
mainly use a combination of intimidation and humiliation to torment others. The following is some
examples of bullying techniques:

* Calling the victim names and stating the victim is useless at whatever they do

* Spreading gossip and rumours about him/her

* Threats of job loss and disciplinary action for unspecified reasons

* Constant negative criticism for unspecified allegations

* Taking the victim's possessions or taking control of the victim's work

* Demoting the victim

* Making the victim do what they do not want to do with a threat of violence or disciplinary action if
they refuse

* Actually following through with a threat on one occasion to ensure the victim will comply with all
future orders

Locations of bullying

Bullying can occur in schools, universities, families, between neighbours, workplaces, between countries
and in the military.

Both school and workplace bullying has come increasingly to public attention. Bullying is now one of the
most contentious issues in the occupational health and safety arena.

Cyberbullying is bullying through the internet, e.g. in a blog.

In the 1990s, the United States saw an epidemic of school shootings (of which the most notorious was
the Columbine High School massacre). Many of the children behind these shootings claimed that they
were the victims of bullies and that they resorted to violence only after the school administration
repeatedly failed to intervene. In many of these cases, the victims of the shooters sued both the
shooters' families and the schools.

Since media coverage has exposed just how widespread is bullying, juries are more likely now to
sympathize with victims. In recent years, many victims have been suing bullies directly for intentional
infliction of emotional distress, and including their school as a defendant under the principle of joint and
several liability.

As a result of all these trends, schools in many countries strongly discourage bullying, with programs
designed to teach students cooperation, as well as training peer moderators in intervention and dispute
resolution techniques.

However, with respect to workplaces, there are few localities that are governed by legislation which
specifically targets workplace bullying. This is because lawmakers fear that those rules could be used as
leverage in other industrial or interpersonal matters. Therefore most bullying claims are conducted
under discrimination laws.

Bullying in the family is normally ignored by society unless it includes a form of physical/sexual abuse.
Once it does outside parties such as the police and social services can get involved if the victim speaks
up, or if the abuse has gone too far - the victim is in hospital or dead.

Between neighbours bullying normally takes the form of intimidation by nuisance behaviour, such as
excessive noise to disturb sleep and normal living patterns, and reports to authorities such as the police
for minor or made up incidents. The purpose of this form of behaviour is to make the victim so
uncomfortable they move from their property. It should be noted that not all nuisance behaviour is
bullying, as some individuals are unaware of other people's feelings and the havoc they are causing.

Bullying between countries occurs when a more powerful country such as a superpower decides to
make a smaller one do its bidding. This is normally done with military force, the threat that aid and
grants will not be given to the smaller country or the smaller country will not be allowed to join a trading
organisation.
Bullying in the military can occur when a superior misuses their power to get subordinates to do
whatever they want including sexual favours. However the excuse for this sort of behaviour is that the
military is not subject to normal civilian laws so they should be allowed to do what they want. This can
lead to a high number of suicides and mysterious deaths of subordinates which are not investigated
openly. Deepcut Barracks in the UK is one example of this where the UK government refuses to do a full
public enquiry.

An extreme case was where an eighth grader named Curtis Taylor at a middle school in Iowa had been
the victim of continuous bullying for three years, which included name-calling, him getting bashed into a
locker, chocolate milk poured down his sweatshirt and vandalism of his belongings. This drove him into
committing suicide on March 21, 1993.

Effects of bullying

Persistent bullying may have a number of effects on an individual, and in the environment where
bullying takes place.

Effects on the individual include:

* Reactive Depression, a form of clinical depression caused by exogenous events

* Posttraumatic stress disorder

* Anxiety

* Gastric problems

* Unspecified aches and pains

* Acne and other skin disorders

* Loss of self esteem

* Relationship problems

* Drug and alcohol abuse

* Suicide (also known as bullycide)

Effects on a school include:

* High levels of truancy

* High staff turnover

* Disrespect for teachers

* High level of absence for minor ailments

* Weapon-carrying by children for protection

* Legal action

o Against the school or education authority

o Against the bully's family

* See Only Wayne (http://moodle.ed.uiuc.edu/wiked/index.php/Only_Wayne) - a racist bullying case

study in a wiki-format, that illustrates some of the unfortunate effects of bullying on a particular school
community.

Effects on the organisation such as a workplace:

* Loss of morale

* High level of sick leave absence for depression, anxiety and backache

* Decreased productivity and profit

* High level of staff turnover

* Loss of customers

* Bad reputation in industry

* Negative media attention

* Legal action

o Against the organisation for personal injury

o Against the organisation and individual bully under discrimination laws

bullying in school

Bullying is a very popular disease among the school students today. Bullies may be specified as
endangered species who make ridicule of others for their own fun. Although life is a journey and a tough
fight, but, not everyones a fighter. Students with money power try to harm other students and cease
their dignity and innocence for the entire school life. To discuss this current topic, I have divided my
sample paper into 3 sections specifying the practice of bullying and how we can prevent it and save the
children from facing this annoyance. Bullying means to intimidate other students (in school or college
context) to do what one wants. Typically, Bullying is similar to ragging whereby group of people with
high profile or superiority or seniority do pillory or scoff at the benign students. One should never do a
wrong thing to make friends. Just for the sake of impressing other classmates, one should not attempt
anything wrong that may harm a credulous student in anyway.

day to day examples of bullying in school

We often come across news, showcasing the effect of bullying in schools and the side effects on the
harmed students. There are various types of bullying experienced in schools among the students like:
teasing, taunting, threatening, hitting, spitting, and embarrassing others in public place. All these actions
may assault ones dignity. The effect of bullying on the children is so negative, that it may damage their
academic performance. It may force students to even commit suicide. It harms the students not only
mentally but physically, emotionally, and socially. The cause of bullying varies from case to case. The
assault may be due to some personal reasons or out of jealousy or it may depend upon the family
background of bullies. Such families are considered to be dysfunctional as they are not interested in
knowing about their child activities in school. With ignorance comes fear and the fear leads to
dogmatism. Education is the key to acceptance. Such cases can be avoided by the combined efforts of
school, parents and off course with the help of school students. It is said that with time, everything
settles down, but in such cases we cant wait for time otherwise something bad may happen and then
no one will be able to handle its consequences.

ways to prevent bullying in school

Some people feel that bullying is a normal part of growing days but, its not normal , rather something
very aggressive . It has the potential to ruin a students school life and must be avoided as much as the
school authority can, and the parents can. Although teasing is a type of bullying but not identical to
bullying. Teasing is done to provoke other student with continual distractions. Bullying means an
imbalance of power. Bullied students are unable to defend themselves and this causes imbalance of
power. The school faculty must change their attitude to prevent bullying. They must be non-judgmental,
non-partial to students and must justify all the matters sincerely not by taking the side of any student
but by being reasonable and practical over a particular matter. Although a school authority performs the
duties genuinely still the news of bullying is often heard. Its because the students remain quiet and
dont bully in the schools because of the fear of authorities but their thinking remains the same. Maybe
they dont harm their classmates but what about their life, their attitude outside the school? In order to
change them completely i.e., not only practically or awfully but emotionally also, the help of a childs
parents is indispensable. They must guide their children about their attitude. They must explain the
children about what is right and what is wrong.

This would surround the students with positive energy and will definitely help them to overcome their
bullying attitude. Rich or poor, high class or low class every child is same and equal and their innocence
must not be harmed by substandard and unsatisfactory attitude. Lastly , I want to say that each of us is a
book to be written, either good or bad , worst or best and, if written, defines a persons personality i.e.,
a persons persona is by the people, the nature, the positive or the negative energy surrounding him.
Good the surroundings are, best a person is.

Social networking has caused a lot of problems. How far do you agree?

- by Wesly Kong

Curtin University

Social networking, which is also known as social media, is the use of internet-based applications to make
connections with people such as our family and friends. It is now becoming an important part of our
lives. In order to keep pace with the advancement of technology, almost all of us have learnt how to use
social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. Despite its popularity, is
it true that social networking has caused us a lot of problems?

In my opinion, social networking has its advantages and disadvantages. It actually depends on how we
use it.

I believe that social media benefits us because it brings people closer even though they are from
different parts of the world. By using social networking, a person can communicate with his family and
friends wherever they are. Furthermore, social networking sites are basically free of charge. It is
extremely user friendly and can be used wherever there is internet access. By comparison, it is more
economical than making telephone calls. We are able to share our life stories and special moments
through social networking. For instance, we can see photos of beautiful scenery and cultural activities
posted by users from different countries. We can also interact with them through the use of chat rooms
and also by posting comments and messages.
Another benefit of social networking is that like-minded people all over the world are able to discuss
important topics and share their points of view. This can widen a persons personal knowledge as he can
discover different things that he never knew. For example, young people around the world are now
more involved in their countries politics. They also have a more caring attitude towards other important
issues both at home and abroad.

Just as everything has its pros and cons, social networking is no exception. One of the problems it has
caused us is that it allows us to hide behind the screens. That limits face to face interaction among
people. Some of us might think that it is good enough to be sociable simply through the use of social
networking. This could result in the lack of communication and interpersonal skills when we come face
to face with people. In addition, we tend to neglect the importance of building a good relationship with
friends that we make through social media. For instance, users can have thousands of friends in their
Facebook friends lists, but how many of them do they see on a semi-regular basis?

Moreover, social networking has taken too much out of our lives. A lot people are busy with
Facebooking or Tweeting instead of interacting with their friends and family when meeting up. When
their elders are talking to them, they are busy with their social networking sites and tend to ignore their
elders. Such insolence is prevalent especially among todays younger generation. Apart from that,
another serious problem which social media has caused us is distraction. For example, while studying,
students may decide to catch up with Youtube videos or update their Twitter accounts. This causes
concentration problems and consequently has a negative effect on the students academic performance.
The similar situation is also not uncommon among workers who are on duty. This can result in their
superiors distrust of them.

In conclusion, I agree to a certain extent that social networking has caused a lot of problems. If it is
misused or used in an improper manner, problems can arise. On the other hand, it can be a useful tool
to people from all walks of life if it is used in an appropriate manner.

Argumentative Essay: The Importance of Sports

Participation in sports is extremely important, and should be encouraged much more. Children and
young people in particular need to do sport so that they develop good habits that they can continue into
adulthood. The main benefits of sport are improved health and fitness, and the development of social
and communication skills.

With more than a third of adults in the USA being classed as obese, and many more being overweight, it
has never been more important to participate in sports. People that do sport on a regular basis are
burning more calories than those that dont, and are therefore less likely to end up overweight. Being a
healthy weight means that you will be less likely to die young and suffer from heart disease, strokes,
high blood pressure, diabetes and a range of other conditions, and if you already eat well, it can give you
an extra calorie allowance so you can treat yourself without feeling guilty about it.
As well as improving cardiovascular health and fitness, exercising is also good for the musculoskeletal
system, making muscles more supple and toned, and improving the strength of bones and joints. People
who do sports will be stronger and more able to lift and carry heavy things, which is also always useful,
and they are less likely to become really weak and frail as they get older because their bodies are strong.
Furthermore, doing sports can improve mental health as well as physical health, with exercise being
helpful for people with depression and a range of other mental health issues, because it releases good
chemicals into our brains. It also makes people feel better about their bodies, which can make them
happier, and reduces the risk of eating disorders and crash dieting, as people make more sensible,
healthy changes to their lifestyle.

Sports also allow people to develop personally. Social and communication skills can be learned and
developed through sport. Teamwork, for example, is naturally learned through participating in team
sports and games. Communication skills can really be honed, as they are at the center of any teams
success, and a lack of them leads to failure. Many people will also develop leadership skills through
sport, often discovering abilities that they never knew they even had.

Many peoples self-esteem improves through sport as they discover things that they are good at and
improve their body. Participating in any competitive sport also improves our ability to handle pressure
and still perform well, as well as teaching us how to win and lose graciously. All in all, the fact that
playing sport is good for us is completely undeniable, because it helps our minds and bodies, and
ultimately means that we will be living longer, happier lives.

IMPORTANCE and BENEFITS OF SPORTS

Have you ever thought why people do sports? Absolutely, many people seem not to know the reasons.
As a anectode, there are many people who do sports for nothing around us. Everyday we can encounter
with these people. They regularly do sports; however, none of them realizes the benefits and
importance of sports. In fact, vice versa, some people want to be fit and attractive, look smart.
Unfortunately, these people cant consider other benefits of sports. In my opinion, there are several
benefits of sports that people often do not consider: sports are required to be healthy people, are
needed for enjoyment, and are great market for countries economies.

The first advantage of sports for people is that they help people be healthy, and be fit. Throughout
history, people cant give up their interest at their body. I belive that now many people love themselves
no matter how beautiful or ugly they are. Naturally, peoples first aim should be healthy and fit with the
benefits of sports. Due to this fact that Sports keep our body healthy. As a possible example, imagine
that there is a car which has not worked for years. If you try to run the motor engine, it will not work
anymore since it has been rusted and its engine may be broken down. As a result, people is smillar to
engines and motors. If we dont do sports, we will be forced to rust, in other words, decomposition of
our body; afterwards, we may have some problems with our body when we even need to small walk. In
addition, sports balance our bodys blood pressure and circulation. According to many researchs which
have been done by scientists, we can prove the importance of sports for our health because 70% middle
aged people who did not do sports in their youth are now struggling with the problems such as high
tension, trouble with blood circulation, easily become tired due to the lack of sports.
The second advantage of sports for people is that they are required for our daily lives and competing at
the internatinal area because of enjoyment of sports. For many years, sports have been done by people.
For example, have you ever thought why people want to play football or other games? The answer may
be easy since sports are entertaining. They are sometimes magics as they catch our attention and give
us pleasure as much as we need. Sometimes overwhelming life conditions may be unfair and make us
unhappy. However, if there is a sport activity when we are unhappy, we will probably be motivated and
be refreshed again after the sport activity. This should be the most important benefit of sports because
many people do sports for this reason. In addition, have you ever thought why millions of people watch
World Cup match without breathing? There might be some reasons behind the action of watching
football match. The most important one might be the excitement and enjoyment of sport. Football
match is exhilating because it gives us pleasure to watch. In the pitch and near the pitch, there are more
than 18 men, and they are the representative of our sport culture. Within the excitment of sports,
countries are able to compete in the international area. Due to this fact people like sports since they and
their countries are able to compete and beat opponent countries and this is the most important reason
to take pleasure from sports.

The final and least advantage of sports is that they are the huge market for countries economy. First of
all, if we look at only football industry. There are more than thousand professional team and at least
these team have 25 players. If this is calculated, there are approximately 25000 players without working
staff, scouts, coaches and managers. This shoud be the largest industry which employs many people in
Turkey. In addition, countries and clubs have to establish new facilities for sports game. Some of them
are the largest buldings in the entire country that represent countries, for example Ataturk Olympic
Stadium in Turkey. Supplying funds for this buldings may be the publicity of countries since constructing
well designed stadiums help country preapare or organize big competitons such as World Cup, Olympics,
and Tennis Tournaments. Finally, sports allow advertisement companies to make publicity of strong
brands. For example, sponsorship is one of the best publicity of one company. Everyone watchs thier
favourite team or atlethe, and audiance will probably see the sponsor of team or atlethe. For example,
in England, Manchester United which is one of the most powerful clubs in international area has a
sponsor called Vodafone. I am from Turkey, and I even know its sponsor. This will probably show the
effectiveness of sponsorship in sports.

All in all, we can conclude that there are several advantages and benefits of sports. First, sports are
required by people to be fit, smart, and good looking. Second, sports are entertaining due to many facts.
Third, sports are the huge market for countries economies. In my opinion, despite sports advantages,
many people cant believe that sports are useful and beneficial. I hope that in the future these people
will tend to be more optimistically to sports since they are the neccessity of our lives.

There are many things to do after your SPM examination. Write about your plans for the next three
months

and the challenges you might face.

Despite the fact the SPM examination is just round the corner, I have had the following 3 months after
the examination planned, besides studying hard and doing last-minute revision. The first plan for the 3-
month period is what most teenagers would do after completing secondary school education - learning
how to drive. My father has appointed one of his friends, who happens to be in the relevant line of
work, as my driving instructor. According to my father, he is an experienced and patient teacher and I
should have no problem passing the test and obtaining a licence if I cooperate fully with him. Since I
have never driven before, one of the challenges that I might face is to familiarise myself with all the car
parts and driving techniques, apart from equipping myself with the basic Knowledge of the engine. To
me, some of these seem so complicated - especially the engine. Besides that, I also have a fear of large
vehicles on the road, such as tankers, lorries and buses especially when I am riding in a car. Anyway, I
am sure that with the assistance of my instructor, I will be able to rise to the challenges and obtain the
passport and freedom to drive myself to wherever I want.

My second plan is to learn typewriting using the correct technique, that is, using all my 10 fingers and
the right positions, particularly the former. Presently, I type with only a few fingers, which is obviously
much slower. Instead of doing a typing course in an educational institution, my brother suggested that I
learn from home using special software specially created for this purpose. There are, in fact, a lot of free
software available from the Internet. Besides that, many websites also offer free online typing courses.
Since it is much more economical and convenient, I agree with my brothers suggestion. I may face
challenge learning proper keyboarding technique as I am so used to the wrong way. Another challenge
that I might face is perseverance, since I am learning on my own. Luckily, my benevolent brother offers
to watch over me and monitor my progress. As such, I believe that I will be able to acquire the skills and
type at a much higher speed with great accuracy after 3 months.

As I intend to further my studies after the release of my SPM examination results, my third plan is to
improve my command of English and mathematical ability. I will be spending time to further familiarise
myself with the grammar rules. I will also be doing a lot of reading and writing practice as they are two
of the most effective methods to achieve my target. As for mathematics, since ones mathematical skills
take a lot of hard work to develop, I plan to start learning the higher level mathematics with the help of
my friends who are currently undergraduates. The challenge that I may face for this plan is quite similar
to the second - since I am unattached to any learning institutions, I may find it unnecessary to stick to
this plan, even though I am aware of its benefits. But at least I have assistance. Therefore, I believe that I
will stick to plan 3 as well.

I hope to be able to implement my plans and accomplish my goals. Whether I will be able to succeed
depends a lot on my perseverance, determination and diligence. With these qualities, proper time
management and help from family members, friends and driving instructor, I believe that it is possible to
overcome all challenges and achieve my targets.
Vaping, the new Smoking?

Although Many people are lead to believe that vaping is just as, if not more dangerous than the
conventional cigarette due to ignorance of the device, general safety of e-cigs, and their appeal to
children, research shows that this is not the case.

E cigarettes and vape pens have been around since 2003, but they recently had an explosion in
popularity as a smoking cessation device, or a recreational way of delivering nicotine and flavorings in a
presumably harmless way. An E cigarette is a fairly simple device that typically uses a 3.7V battery, a
small wire coil around a wick, and e-liquid or e-juice to create a nicotine and flavor containing
vapor to the user just as a conventional cigarette would. E juice and E liquid are generally composed of
four main ingredients, Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), nicotine, and flavorings. E-cigs,
Vape pens, Hookah pens, Vapes, and Personal vaporizers are all perms used to describe this basic
device. There are many different styles, nicotine concentrations, types, and colors of these devices, but
all of them serve the same purpose. These devices are not yet regulated by the FDA and there has been
much controversy over whether they should be regulated, and if the laws on the sale of these devices
should be treated as if they are tobacco products in the US.

In a recent study conducted by scientist at Penn State University, they concluded that

Two-thirds had previously tried to quit smoking using an FDA-approved smoking cessation medication.
The majority of the sample had used e-cigs daily for at least a year. Three quarters started using e-cigs
with the intention of quitting smoking and almost all felt that the e-cig had helped them to succeed in
quitting smoking. (J. Foulds 2011)

These findings conclude that E-cigarettes are a good way to cut back on smoking analog cigarettes, and
in many cases quit altogether. Some statements have been studied on these e-cigarettes because there
have been claims made on how even though they aren t tobacco products, they do contain carcinogens.
When the coil used to vaporize the e-liquid heats up, it can cause the e-liquid itself to break down and
release some unsafe chemicals. The chemicals released were studies by using a gas chromatography test
on several different e-liquids in different vaporizers, with a control group of regular cigarette smoke for
comparison. Both methods of nicotine delivery had toxic chemicals in them, although the traditional
cigarettes contained tens of times greater values of these toxins than the e-cigarettes did. The study
done on the toxin concentration was done by the Department Material Analysis and Indoor Chemistry,
Fraunhofer Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut (WKI), Braunschweig, Germany. Some of the chemicals released by
the e-cigarettes are the same chemicals that are found in cigarette smoke. DMAIC concluded that the
concentrations of these chemicals (g/m) are not nearly as harmful as cigarette smoke. One substance
produced is isoprene. The average concentration in the e-cig vapor was approximately 8g/m, while
the cigarette smoke produced 135g/m of isoprene (Schripp 2012)

The chemical composition of these electronic cigarette vapors have been proven to be toxic, but they
are in concentrations of up to 100 times less than cigarette smoke. With the chemical safety being a
concerning factor, the overall safety of e-cigs and all of their individual components have been called
into question as well. A few areas of concerns with these electronic cigarettes are mostly related to
APV s (Advanced Personal Vaporizers) the most common type of APV is called a Mod. These mods are
constructed of a lithium ion battery, a metal tube casing, and a 501 threaded socket for the user to
screw in their atomizer. The safety concern with these is that as vaping became more popular, there
have been people who began creating these mods so that they can run a very low resistance coil in their
atomizer, which when paired with a high current rated battery, can create massive plumes of vapor. If
the user is not well-versed in battery safety, they can accidentally cause the battery to overheat and
explode in a violent spew of fire directly in front of their face. This is a great concern because many
people have died in results of these thermal runaway accidents, and is not recommended.

Another issue of safety with e-cigarettes is the fact that e-liquid is a concentrated bottle of nicotine.
There has been a particular focus on the toxicity of the liquid nicotine solution used in e-cigarettes and
the potential for users to spill the liquid on their skin, or for children to accidentally swallow it and
overdose (Bell 2012). Children have become the victim of nicotine poisoning due to accidental
consumption of a small bottle of potent nicotine that smells like candy. Although this is an issue that
isn t directly related to the act of vaping, there is still innocent lives taken due to ingestion of these toxic
concentrations of nicotine.

Some may argue that kids and teens are drawn to vaping more than cigarettes because e-cigarettes
seem like a safe alternative. According to a 2012 CDC report that relied on the National Youth Tobacco
Survey, the use of e-cigarettes among high school students more than doubled from 2011 to 2012, from
1.5 percent in 2011 to 2.8 percent in 2012.Those percentages refer to teens who tried an e-cigarette
perhaps as little as a single puff. One in five middle school students who reported trying them said they
hadn t tried traditional cigarettes.(Brill 2014) While there has been an increase in teens using e-
cigarettes, there is evidence to suggest that teens are not drawn to smoking a cigarette as much as they
are drawn to vaping. Even though this is a concern to many, others can argue that it is a good thing since
vaping is safer than smoking. Many concerned parents are outraged with the fact that E-liquid is
available in a vast array of fruity flavors that can be appealing to children. While these may be appealing
to children, adults are also drawn to fruity flavors as opposed to the dirty smoke flavor of cigarettes. This
argument is just as valid as saying that teens are drawn to alcohol because it is available in many fruity
flavors. The fact of the matter is that just because teens are drawn to the fruit flavors, adults should not
be denied the pleasure of a fruit flavored e-liquid, or alcoholic beverage.

Although Many people are lead to believe that vaping is just as, if not more dangerous than the
conventional cigarette due to ignorance of the device, general safety of e-cigs, and their appeal to
children, research shows that this is not the case.
