Located in the town of Omoa, it is

possibly the most important colonial
defense structure in all of Central
America, an enormous stone construction
completed in 1775 with the purpose of
protecting the north of Honduras from
corsairs and pirates. Towards the end of
the colonial era and with the beginning of
independence, it was occupied as a gloomy
prison, to which terrible torture of
prisoners is attributed.
Today virtually all the original structure
survives, being possible to visit both its
numerous enclosures and an adjoining
museum that tells the most important
events of its history.
One of the most fascinating tourist places
of Honduras, ancient capital of a Mayan
kingdom that prospered between the 5th and
9th centuries. Today its ruins, declared

back in time, allowing us to appreciate
what was its splendor through palaces,
pyramids, squares, stelae and other
monuments.
Other of the tourist places of Honduras
that enchant by their natural scenes,
corresponding to a lake of 16 km in
length and 6 km in width, surrounded by
enormous mountains, through whose slopes
descend national parks such as the
National Park Meambar Azul and the one
in Santa Brbara.
The site with extensive tourism
development has numerous restaurants,
hotels and recreational centers, also
presenting the attraction of its

the colonial city of Comayagua.

Mysterious archaeological site located

in the Sierra de Agalta, where hundreds
of human skeletons and remains of vases
hidden among the rock formations of a
cave were found, dating from
approximately the year 1000 BC. C.
Today a circuit of 500 meters allows you
to enter the depth of the rock, between
stalactites and stalagmites of unique
shapes, passing through the ritual
chamber where some bones have been
preserved in time to be covered by a
layer of resplendent calcium.
