2 Method of payment for preliminaries applied in main library building

Preliminaries valuing are depended on the Quantity surveyors skill and knowledge. Allowing the right
percentages at the right time is more important factor. Then only can manage the construction project.

Several forms can be used for the valuation of the preliminary section of a project. Preliminaries are
generally site-specific matters that are globally required for each project, such as site management,
accommodation and welfare, services and security,

In main library building, lump sum method of payment was used to pay preliminaries. There are 18
preliminaries all the preliminary items are considered into 5 types.

1) Some payments for those item shall be made only the cost incurred, subject to submission of
relevant evidence but maximum limit up to quoted amount

2) Some item are, contractor shall be paid monthly installment over the contract period up to the
maximum amount quoted.

3) Some items are, contract shall be paid 75%of the sum quoted in satisfactory completed work,
15% sum quoted in monthly installment over the contract period and balance 10% on demolition and
removal from site.

4) Some item are, contractor shall be paid the sum quoted on satisfactory completion of work.

5) Some item are, contractor shall be paid the sum quoted on satisfactory completion of work in
suitable manner, described above

Note :- All 18 preliminaries are calculated by above mentioned 5 types and total cumulative value is
forwarded to summery of contract claim.

3.3 Items Included in the interim bill of main library building.

Interim valuation is considered as an important method that is used to claim the money by the
contractor form client. Therefore this is prepared by contractor QS. In our selected project several items
were included under the interim valuation. This interim valuation is done in our selected project. When
we visited to construction site, there 87% of the work had been already completed and then 11th
interim bill was send and 12th bill was going on. Like that the cumulative method was followed for each
interim valuation. The flowing items were included under the interim valuation in our selected project
