Letter from the Editor

R
ecent offshore, pipeline and mining accidents around the world have painfully
reminded us all that safety, while essential, is sadly sometimes still an after-
thought. At Intergraph, we believe safety by design is the premise for true life-cycle
asset management. A sound design translates to safer operations. Properly managed
engineering data ensures that an asset can be maintained and modified in accordance
with established standards for decades.
Safety is nothing new for Intergraph and our customers. As the industrys only rules-
based, data-centric 3D design solution, Smart 3D ensures the integrity of data, no matter
how often replicated. To further increase design safety for our customers projects, weve
innovated an interface between Smart 3D and FLACS, an explosion analysis software pack-
age developed by GexCon. This interface enables users to seamlessly validate the design
of their plants or offshore facilities and ensure the safety and integrity of the design to
lower the risk of leaks and explosions.
In this issue, I invite you to learn more about our safety philosophy and the extensive
safety management capabilities of the SmartPlant and SmartMarine Enterprise solu-
tions suites. Be sure, too, to read case studies from customers around the world who are
using this software as well as our newly acquired COADE analysis solutions to increase
productivity and competitiveness.
If you are reading this issue in Las Vegas at the Intergraph 2010 International Users

rescheduling of the conference due to the unprecedented flooding in Nashville and look
forward to another excellent conference and user experience for our attendees. We are
grateful to those of you who were able to attend this years event.
To all of our customers, we thank you for your support and we will continue to strive to
provide you with innovative engineering solutions to quickly and competitively create
efficient and safe projects.
