Scenario 1

As an engineer, you may work for a company already using CAD or wanting to upgrade the
CAD system they are currently using. Therefore, you need to have a working knowledge of the
system hardware specification required to run given CAD software. Also describe the hardware
required to produce CAD drawings.

Task 1. You have to describe about the software and hardware as available and required for
the company to produce the CAD Drawings. (P2)

Task Requirement: Task completed to the required standard? YES NO

Your assignment should describe and compare at least the points listed
below focusing mainly on the use of SolidWorks:
Software required such as the operating system
Other software required to link to SolidWorks to ensure it runs correctly
Minimum system requirements such are hard disk space, RAM, processor
and video card
Hardware required to operate SolidWorks, including a monitor & printer.
A brief description of at least one other input device other than a mouse.
Output devices, other than a printer.
Data storage options
Compare Solid Works with a comparable 3D solid modelling package
such as Autodesk Inventor highlighting good and bad areas with each.

Auto cad is one of the most popular software in the world to produce the computer aided
drawing. And this auto cad software has seen many varison from till its programmed. And in
the earlier times the autocad wasnt effective. Because in the earlier times the autodesk
designed this software for those very slow computers. This slow of the computers means the
operating system, hardware, and etc was influenced most in that times. But according to the
time changes, the invention of the fastest operating system and finest hardware the autocad
became very effective for computer aided drawings and now it is popular in the world. So now i
am going to give you about the hardware which helps to run the autocad in our computer.

Task 2. Produce the assembly drawing for figure as given below, using appropriate commands.
Produce 2D CAD detail drawings of the following components that make up an assembly or
sub-assembly to BS8888, using appropriate commands. (P5)

Fig: 1 and Fig: 2

Task 3. With regard to the identified CAD Software and Hardware in Task 1, explain the
relationship between the CAD and other software / hardware as used in manufacturing. (M1)
Task 4. With the use of Software for CAD the drawing production will be affected. You should
explain how the range of commands to produce CAD Drawings could impact the drawing
production. (M2)

Task 5. For the manufacturing your have to explain how 3D CAD models could be used in the
design process. (M3)

Task 6. There is always a need for drawing and design for variety of engineering components,
with 3D environment in use today explain how the 3D CAD models can be used effectively
during the design process. (D2)
