NATIONAL EXAM, IMPORTANT OR IMPOTENT?

National exam becomes the hottest topic to be discussed every year. Especially
when all educational elements are busy to prepare their students to face
national exam. Although the government always carries out the national exam
every year, some still debate whether it is necessary to maintain the national
exam. Does the quality of Indonesia education depend on it? If there is no
national exam, will the Indonesia education become worse or better?

TENTANG HARI VALENTINE

February 14 is known as the day of love or valentine day. In Indonesia, the

Indonesian public interest is great enough. Especially teenagers who want to
celebrate with the people they love. However, there are also people who
refuse to celebrate Valentines Day because of the various opinions they
believe. So what is the pros and cons opinion of the people in responding to the
celebration of Valentines Day?For those who celebrate Valentine argue that
the 14th February is the day of love. Like the other big days that must be
celebrated with someone special. Of course this is a special moment that
should not be missed. They agree with the opinion that the expression of
affection should be given every day, not just on Valentines Day. However, the
14th of February is a special moment. Because on that day, all mankind
together express their affection to their loved ones. Is not special to celebrate
the day of love simultaneously with everyone?
Different from those who celebrate the Valentines Day, those who reject the
valentine argue that the Valentines Day is an event of cultural and moral
destruction of Indonesian society. According to them, expressing the affection is
not only on February 14, but all the time, because they have to love parents,
teachers, family, friends, the environment, animals etc. Unlike the Valentines
Day which is identical to teenagers who are having imitating nature, despite it is
good or bad for them, they just celebrate the day with their lover alone. They
believe (the cons), basically teenagers do not understand the meaning of real
love . They just follow others to celebrate without knowing the history of
Valentines Day which is far away from the culture of Indonesia. Unfortunately,
the Indonesian teenagers can not filter the bad foreign cultures even tend to
damage the moral.

Regardless of the pros and cons to celebrate Valentines Day, we as human
beings have been given intellect and thought to distinguish which is good and
bad for us. It is our obligation to sort out what is good for us and leave the bad.

ABOUT ABORTION

A few months ago there was a discourse of a Community institution to legalize

the practice of abortion in Indonesia. And the Government also responded to
the opinion to be considered in the meeting of the draft law next year. The
opinion of legalized abortion certainly reaps the pros and cons for the society.
The reason they propose that abortion should be legalized and have a legal
framework is because of the many cases of sexual abuse experienced by
women in Indonesia resulted a pregnancy. In term of psychology aspect, the
victim will certainly bear a very heavy burden. Moreover, it is not clear who is
the biological father of the child. This is the main reason for the opinion of
legalization of abortion in Indonesia. They argue that abortion will reduce the
psychological burden of rape victims. So that their rehabilitation process will be
much easier.

But they forget that the case is pregnant before marriage does not only
happen on rape victims only . There are a lot of free sex activity performed by
students. And it causes pregnancy and many of those abort their child to cover
their mistakes. If the government legalize abortion, of course this opens the way
for them to do a free sex activity. if they are pregnant , they can abort legally.
Isnt the thought will destroy the morals of youth Indonesia ? It Certainly
damages our future generations. In addition, the practice of abortion is the
practice of removing a persons life. isnt that very inhumane if the only reason is
the victims psychological factor then we sacrifice one life?
Thus, the legalization of abortion should be examined in various factors that are
closely related . Example of religious factors, health factors, psychological
factors, and other factors. So that the government can decide exactly whether
to legalize abortion

ABOUT HANDPHONE

Lately we are faced with the school regulation that prohibits students to bring a
hand phone in the school. This regulation is caused by the rise of misusing a
hand phone which facilitates communication, but with a massive development
in technology, hand phone turns to be a smartphone. The prohibition of
bringing smartphone to school creates different opinion between the school
and parents. So, what is their point of view about the rules?
Students abusing smartphone is a major cause of banning to bring smartphone
in the school. Of course we still remember the spread of immoral video of junior
high children recorded in the classroom and watched by their friends. this
frightens the school. Youth is a great imitating period. But they still cannot
differentiate which is good or bad for them. So students abuse the convenience
provided by smartphone. that is one example of the negative effects caused
by smartphone.

However, not a few people who disagree to the regulation. Some parents think
that the ban of bringing hand phone in the school is not appropriate. They
argue that it makes their children difficult to contact them or their family if there
are other activities outside. Moreover, if there is something unwanted happens,
such as accidents or kidnapping, the hand phone is very necessary. In addition,
parents are also easier to control their childrem when they bring hand phone.
Regardless of the pros and cons of the rule, of course both of them have their
benefits. But it is basically back to the individual. Certainly the role of teachers
and parents are very important in educating childrens moral and mental. So
they do not abuse the hand phone. Both sides should sit down together and
determine the proper regulation for their best.

TELEVISION

Television becomes part of our life. Everyday we watch television. We usually

watch television after working, getting together with our family, even when we
are working.

As the part of our life, television has bad and good effects. People have
different opinion about the negative and positive impacts of watching TV.

The bad effects most people say are TV makes us lack of movement. We stay
for a long time in our TV. It's not healthy life. They also say that TV influence our
daily life. Sometimes we don't realize that we become more consuming after
watching various ads. Some TV shows influence the way children act. The
rudeness and violence come to our house without permission through television.

But, the other people say that television has a good impact. We can get much
information from TV. When there is something happened in another city, we
know directly, fastly through the news on TV. TV also makes us relax. After
working all day, we come home and turn on TV to watch funny and comedy
videos.

We can conclude that TV has a good and bad effects to our life. Our task is
how to choose the good things and try to take away the bad one.

STUDENTS HAVE DATE, PROS CONS

In school, we always find some students have a date. They build a relationship
with their friends in the school or the other schools. Students have different
opinion about it. Some of them agree if students may have a date, but the
others disagree.

Some students agree if they may have special relationship. They think that
dating is good to build a spirit of studying. They can be happy during the school
hour because they can meet their love. Moreover, dating is good to prepare for
a serious relationship before married.

The other students disagree about dating whent they are still students. They say
dating is annoying when they quarrel with their boyfriends or girlfriends. It can
break our concentration to study. Moreove, dating can be an easy access to
free sex. It may harm the students to reach their future dream.

PROS AND CONS ON ANTI SMOKING LAW

The pros and cons on anti smoking law or "smoking is forbidden" is still being
discussed in our country. The issue is not new. It is only a small part of the anti-
smoking wave which has been promoted for more than 50 years.
Arguments for anti-smoking are abundant. Some of them such as: smoking is a
slow suicide and makes other people passive smokers who has same impacts in
term of health.

Furthermore smoking invites death and impotence, causing tuberculosis, lung

damage, stomach injury, liver and heart damage and cancer.

In social interaction, cigarettes make smoker smelly, weak, thin and poor.
Moreover, cigarette smoke contains around 4,000 chemicals causing air
pollution.

However, smokers have a self-defense argument. They say that smoking helps
thinking, spurs creativity, calms the nerves, eliminates fatigue and grief, is social,
invites chumminess and healthy emotions.

Criticizing regulations, smokers argue that the anti-smoking law is unjust,

inhumane, violates privacy, restricts expression and is discriminatory. The anti-
smoking regulation is siding with one and denying the other at the same time.

The two sides are equally strong. It is impossible to disregard either. Is smoking or
not smoking a matter of personal choice?
