Ask them for help finding accommodation

Tell them where you would like to live

Tell them the type of place you are looking for

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own address.

Sample Answer 1:

Dear Annie,

How are you doing? Its been a while since we have spoken to each other. I have a good news to
share- I will be moving to London to take a new job that I have been offered. I will reach London
on 15th of Jan.

As you know, I have never been to London before, so I was hoping if you could help me in
finding accommodation. Though my company has arranged a studio apartment for initial 1 week,
I will have to vacate the place after that.

My preference would be to live closer to my workplace, which is in central London, as it would

save a lot of travelling time and if I could get something near tube station and the marketplace
would be great. I am mostly looking for a studio apartment. If studios are not available, I would
not mind sharing a flat with a girl. But the apartment should be spacious with good ventilation.
My budget is around 500 pound per month. Do you think I will get something in that budget?

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Regards,
Preeti

You had a good meal at a local restaurant with your family. Write a letter to the
newspaper to tell them about it, describe the meal you had, and why you think
the restaurant is worth visiting.

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own address. Begin your letter as follows:

To the Editor,

I am writing to review my recent visit to Yummy Restaurant. I made a reservation for my sister's
birthday bash which occurred last week. Originally I thought only ten people would attend, but
apparently, the number increased to fifteen people on the day. At first, I was worried that it
would not be possible for the restaurant to accommodate more people. However, I was pleasantly
surprised when the Manager told me that they could do it and would even upgrade our room to a
more spacious one. The overall service was impeccable and the party went smoothly, thanks to
the great staff.

We ordered a three-course set menu and the taste was top notch. The escargot entree was
absolutely divine that I could still remember the taste of its garlic butter sauce till now. My sister
ordered pan-fried salmon fillet with mashed potatoes as the main course, and people were raving
about it. The dessert was a mini-opera which I thought to be rather average, though it might
simply because I do not have sweet teeth.

Overall, we experienced a wonderful night at this restaurant. This place is highly recommended
and we have even started planning our next visit.

Yours faithfully,
Helen

Your car is hired from a company and while you were driving on holiday, you
had a small accident. You will have to write a report to the company to explain it.

You need to explain the following:

when and where you hired it

describe how the accident happened
what kind of action did you take after the accident

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own address. Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am a recent customer of your rental company having I rented a car from your downtown outlet
in Detroit. The car hired was an economy model vehicle which I rented from March 21st to the
present. I would like to commend your company on their professionalism and the service offered,
and as such, I am sure you will handle my incident with these qualities.

Unfortunately, I had an unavoidable accident involving the aforementioned vehicle and another
party. The accident was caused by the other car failing to stop at the red light at the intersection I
was passing through, and as such, the second party collided into the driver's side of my
automobile. The police were informed in situ, whereupon they recorded information regarding
the accident and the other drivers insurance details.

The police established the other driver's responsibility for the accident, and the second party's
insurance company has been informed. I would like to request that a replacement vehicle should
be offered while my current vehicle is incapacitated. Once again, I would like to commend your
company's professional attitude.

Yours sincerely

You cannot go to a company where you got an offer. Write a letter to the HR
supervisor to:

Explain the reason why you decline the offer

Express your gratitude
Explain why you like your current job very much.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I have received your company's offer for a landscape designer
position but I am sorry to say that I need to decline it.

I have known your company for decades and I have heard of the great projects that your
company has recently completed. I appreciate your time on checking my portfolio online and I
was flattered when I received your invitation. Honestly, it took me one week to weigh in my
options.

At the end of the day, I decided to decline the offer because I am happy with my achievements
and role now in my recent company. Besides that, I also have big on-going projects that I want to
finish to add to my portfolio before I will decide to explore other job opportunities.

I hope that in the future I will have a chance to work and be a part of the success of your growing
company.

Respectfully Yours,

My name is Rona Lyn Olivar. I am writing to you today because I need information regarding
your TAPE Tertiary Preparation certificate. I have finished my elementary in an exclusive girls

I look forward to your immediate response with regards to my concerns.

regarding such things as the contents of the exhibition, and the dates of its
opening and closing, and if there are any discounts available.

IELTS Letter Writing / GT Writing Task 1:

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

As part of a student social survey project, you are organising a group to visit a
historical exhibition in a small town. Write a letter asking for information
regarding such things as the contents of the exhibition, and the dates of its
opening and closing, and if there are any discounts available.

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any address.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am organising a group of students to pay a visit to the historical exhibition in your town. This
visit will be part of our schools activities to encourage the students to take part in social surveys.
Therefore, I would be grateful if you could supply me with the following information.
First of all, what are the dates between which the exhibition will be held, and what the daily
opening hours? Secondly, what is the size of the exhibition, what is its theme and what objects
are on display? Thirdly, are there any other activities being held in connection with the
exhibition?

I must point out that I hope to bring over students to the exhibition. So I would like to inquire if
there is any discount available on entrance tickets for students. If so, how much is the discount
and what is the minimum number of students necessary to qualify for it?

I look forward to your reply.

You have a friend who lives in a city abroad. You have decided that you would
like to apply to do a course at one of the colleges in this city.

Write to your friend explaining what you would like to do. Tell him/her what type of work
or studies you have been doing for the past few years and ask for assistance in contacting
an appropriate institution.

Dear Rachel,

Sorry, I haven't written for ages. I have been so busy over the last year and I never seem to have
a minute to myself.

I'd like to study electrical engineering at university in Australia next year and I hope you can
give me some advice. I think I would prefer Melbourne because I know a few people from my
visit last year. This year I'm doing maths and physics at school and I hope to do well in my
exams. However, I really don't know which university to apply to, so could you send me some
information about different colleges? Also, can you find out what qualifications I need? For
instance, as an overseas student, do I have to take an English test?

I hope you don't mind doing this for me. It is much better to get this information from someone
who lives in the country, so I hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks.

Your Faithfully

George Baker

You are organising a trip to the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales for a
group of students from Perth in Western Australia.

Dear Manager,
I am writing to you to get an accommodation at your Hostel during our visit to Snowy Mountains
in New South Wales with our group of Students.

I am John, Lecturer at St Josephs college in Perth. We are planning to organise a trip to

Australia next month from 2nd May to 8th May, and there we would like to visit Snowy
Mountains in New South Wales with our students group which is located in Western Australia.
We thought to stay at your Hostel during this trip to Australia for one week.

We are the group of 20 students and 3 lecturers; require an accommodation of 5 rooms which is
enough for us. It would be great if we can get rooms with attached bathroom and kitchen because
some of our students prefer to cook themselves.

Please let us know the availability of accommodation in the mentioned period and booking
details if they are available.

Thanking you,

Yours Faithfully,
John.

You recently visited a place that had a strong impact on you.

Write a letter to a friend about the place. In your letter

explain where the place was and how you got there
describe what you saw
offer to take your friend there

Dear Samuel,

How are you? I hope you are fine as is with me, I am writing this in reference to our earlier telephonic
conversation regarding a philanthropic activity.

I would like to draw your attention to an area where we can do a lot of social activity. Recently I along
with a group visited a slum area. This slum is situated in an interior place away from the city outskirts
and could be reached by foot only.

Upon entering the area, I was surprised by the children who were ready to welcome us; they were
eagerly waiting that someone would bring something for them to eat. We spent about 4 hours by
playing games, explained them the importance of personal hygiene, taught them few important social
aspects, gave them food which we took along with us and at the end of the session we distributed
around 30 winter blankets for each family in the slum.

When we were in the midst of the slum, I personally saw and felt their poverty, their longing for help
and need of social awareness, when we were returning back we were so happy to see a smile on their
faces and this happiness made me feel joyful and satisfied.
The trip to the slum infused me of an idea to gather few more and ask them for their help in helping the
slum dwellers. I know that you are very much interested in these type of activities and as a person who
is interested in philanthropic activities, I request you to lend your supporting hand in this program.

If you are interested let me know your consent so that you can partner with us in the next visit to the
slum. I promise this would definitely interest you and fulfil your desire to do something social.

Thanking you and waiting for your reply in this regard.

tell him/her when you think you can start.

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you regarding my joining date for the post of Internal Auditor that your
organisation, KSM Chartered Accountants, offered me last week. I regret to inform you that I
will not be able to join on the pre-agreed date. Please allow me to apologise for any
inconvenience this may cause.

Please let me take a moment to elaborate why I will not be able to join your organisation on 15th
June 2015. Unfortunately, last week while playing football, I sprained my ankle. For this
accident, I was rushed to the emergency room and was hospitalised for the next few days. Since
my doctor advised me to not to walk for the next few days, it will be practically impossible for
me to join your company on the stipulated date.

I trust you can understand my dire circumstances. If possible, I would like to postpone my
joining date by one week. Please let me know if this would be acceptable?

Looking forward to your supportive reply,

Sam

One of your pen pals will shortly be visiting your city. For some reasons, you can
not manage to meet him at the airport on time.
Write a letter asking him to wait for you at the airport and tell him how to identify you.

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Tom,

I hope this letter will find you well. I am so glad to hear that you are going to pay a visit to
Guangzhou on this Sunday. I can't wait to meet you right now.

However, I have received an urgent call from my boss that I will have to join a meeting with my
customers on Sunday at 10.00 am. So I am afraid I can't catch up with you at the airport at 10.30
am as the meeting is estimated lasting for more than one hour. I will get to the airport as soon as
I finish my meeting so please wait for me for a while. During that time you may collect your
baggage and grab some coffee. I will probably show up around one hour later, at around 11.30
am.

If you see a guy wearing the white T-shirt and black trousers, that is me. Check my photo on my
Facebook again to ensure you can recognise me at a glance. I will call you in case you can't find
me when I get to there.

Regards.
Johnny.

You have recently been to stay with an old friend for a few days. You hadn't seen
each other for a long time.

say how you felt about the visit

refer to something enjoyable that you did while staying with him/her
invite your friend to visit you

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Karan,

Hope you are doing good, I am doing well here. It was indeed a great pleasure to visit you. I can
never forget those moments in my life as those were the happiest and memorable moments for
me.

The way you treated me during my visit is really appreciated. I would like to meet with all our
old friends one day. When we went to 'Wonderland', I was simply mesmerised and those are
unforgettable moments. We enjoyed there like we were in our school days. I still remember the
way you were afraid of water when you were a child. But your personality has been changed
with time and you have turned into a very influential person, in my opinion.

It would be a great pleasure to invite you to my home for my birthday next month. We will go to
the nearby hill station and have a great fun there. I will expect you to be with me at that time.
Best Wishes,
Ram.

You are going to study in a college in the UK next year. You would like to stay in
the college Hall of Residence.

Write a letter to the college giving your accommodation requirements. You should outline
what your room and food needs are and also ask what alternatives are available if they
cannot provide what you want.

You should write at least 150 words

Dear Sir/Madam;

I am Johnny who will join your college next year and I am writing to you to reserve a dorm in
advance because I prefer to stay in a college Hall of Residence.

According to the dorm introduction on the college website, I would like to choose the two-beds
room on the third floor with air-conditioner and laundry machine if there is still any vacancy. If
all of them are reserved, it is fine for me to get the three or four beds room as well, but the air-
conditioner and laundry machine are indispensable as they are the foremost factors I would
consider.

As I am a vegetarian, I would like to know if the college provides food for people like me. If
this kind of food is unavailable, would you tell me any restaurant near the college can provide? I
will really appreciate if you can share that information with me.

Looking forward to your reply!

Yours sincerely
Johnny

You want to apply for the following job. Write a letter to Mr. Moore describing
your previous experience and explaining why you would be suitable for the job.

Waiter/ waitress required for evening work. Some experience would be necessary.

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Mr. Moore

I am Sam Emanuel. I read your job advertisement for hiring a waiter/waitress in your restaurant through
the Weekly Job magazine. I would like to apply for the position as my experience and personal qualities
would make me a good candidate for the opening.
Currently, I am studying Hotel Management course at the Tianjin University. I want to utilise my summer
holidays doing working in an industry related to my studies. I have experience working as a waiter at a
local restaurant for about 5 months. My responsibilities involved taking orders and making sure that
customers at my tables got their orders on time. In addition, I also worked as a bartender at a bar in
downtown for three months.

I am hard-working and punctual. All of my previous employers would be willing to give me a good
reference if needed be. Also, I am quite flexible and able to do all sorts of tasks. And my previous waiter
experience would allow me to easily set in the vacancy at your restaurant.

Please let me know if you think I am a suitable person for this job. If so, I am able to come for an
interview anytime of the day.

Yours faithfully,
Sandeep

You have just rented an unfurnished flat and a friend has told you that the
Opportunity Shop in the shopping centre has cheap second-hand furniture.

Write to the shop owner describing what you need and asking whether they have these
items and what they cost.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I have just arrived from overseas and need to have some furniture for my unfurnished flat. A
friend has told me that you have some cheap second-hand furniture for sale.

Perhaps you can help me. I would like a kitchen table, some chairs, a double bed, as well as a
single bed for a visitor, a cupboard for our clothes, and a bookcase. If you sell home appliances, I
would like a microwave oven, a fridge, TV set and a CD player too. These must all be clean and
the electrical items must be in good working condition with a guarantee of at least three months.

I would be grateful if you could give me some prices for these items. If you do not supply
electrical goods, can you recommend another shop which does? Also, could you let me know
what you would charge to deliver goods to the High Street?
Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully
Garcia Hall.

You would like to buy some electrical goods at a shop in a nearby town.

Write a letter to the shop and ask if they have the things you want or whether they will be
able to order them. Ask what the prices are and how long they will be able to hold the
goods for you.
You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

I have recently purchased a studio apartment in your town which is in the vicinity to your shop.
Id like to purchase certain electronic equipment for the house. It includes, apart from the popup
toaster, a hand blender, a microwave oven, a big size mixie, a juicer, a dishwasher and a couple
of fans along with a dozen tube lights.

In this context, I would like you to appraise me regarding their ready availability (off the shelf)
in your shop. In the case of an affirmative response, you may also provide a quote for all the
above-mentioned items, at the earliest.

On the contrary, if the items are not in stock, would it be convenient for you to place an order for
the entire lot for me? You must also mention discounts, if any, provided by your shop in case of
cash purchase.

Sir, as I have plans to drop down in a week following this weekend, which happens to arrive on
the day after tomorrow, Id also humbly request you to inform me the duration till the time you
will be able to retain the electronic equipment, as required.

I hope you will be able to provide the electric equipment, as listed here above, at almost the same
time of my arrival in your town.

With regards
MNO

You stayed at your friends house when you participated in a business seminar in
Australia. You left a file with important documents in your room.

Write a letter to your friend, describing the file and ask him/her to return it to
you by post.

You should write at least 150 words.

You recently bought an item of clothing from a shop. You discovered that it had
a fault and returned it to the shop for replacement or refund. However, the
assistant told you that this was against the store's policy.

Write a letter to the store manager, explaining the problems you have had. Ask for a
refund or exchange on the item.

You should write at least 150 words.

To the Manager,

A2Z Fashion House,

Elizabeth Super Market.

I am, Naaz, a regular customer of your store situated in Elizabeth supermarket building. I am
very impressed with the unique and latest trendy collection of your store. I am writing this letter
to inform you that my last shopping experience was not very satisfactory.

I bought a white colour top from your store on 14t April. When I tried it in the shop, it was
perfectly alright. However, when I showed it to my roommate I realised that there is a stain on
the back side of the top. It is such a big stain that it could not be ignored. I believe it was
exchanged with the defective piece during the billing. I immediately went to the store to get it
replaced. However, the assistant mentioned that once the item is sold it cannot be exchanged or
refunded as per the store's policy. I completely understand it. However, it is unfair that a
customer has to suffer due to the staff's mistake. I have not removed the price tag also from the
top and it is clearly visible that the stain is very old.

I believe this matter deserves your immediate attention. I would appreciate if you could replace
the top. It would certainly increase my confidence towards your customer care services as well.

Looking forward to your prompt action,

Naaz
(Customer ID as mentioned in your Store card: 267457)

You have just spent a weekend at a friends house. When you returned home,
you discovered you have left a coat containing some belongings in his house.

Write a letter to your friend telling him that you left the coat. Tell him what the coat looks like, where
you think you left it and what was inside it. Make some suggestions about how to get it back.
You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own address

Dear Steven,

I am back at home now after that great weekend at your house. Thanks very much for putting me up. I
hope youll be able to come and stay with me sometime soon as well.

Unfortunately, I left my new coat at your house. Do you remember the dark brown one that I wore
when we went walking on Saturday afternoon? It is a New Look coat that goes down to mid-thigh level.
It has a black collar, dark brown buttons and large pockets on both sides. I think I left it on the hooks
behind your front door. Do you remember we hung up our coats there when we got back from our
walk?
Its quite important for me as I have my wallet in the inside breast pocket and my diary in the right
outside pocket. I have a friend who is driving through your town on Thursday and he will be quite near
your office. Could he please collect it from there? I have given him your office phone number and he will
call you on Thursday morning. Give me a call if this is not possible.

Anyway, thanks again for a great weekend and I hope to see you soon.

Regards,
Breene Flower.

You ordered a new cheque book from your bank two weeks ago but you have
received nothing.

Write a letter to the manager complaining about the bad service. Say when and how you
ordered the cheque book. Ask how much longer you will have to wait and ask the manager
what action he will take over this matter.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to complain about the service that I have received at your bank. Two weeks ago I ordered a
cheque book by filling out the appropriate form when I visited the bank but since then I have not
received the cheque book and I have received no other correspondence from the bank. It is quite urgent
for me as I have quite a few bills that I need to pay that can only be paid by cheque.

Please write to me as soon as possible and let me know how much longer I will have to wait for my
cheque book and please explain why I have had to wait so long. I would also like to know what action
you are going to take regarding this bad service.

I have been a customer of your bank now for fifteen years and this is the first time I have had to
complain. It is very disappointing.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
Rocky.

You are writing your first letter to a pen pal. Describe your previous studies and
work experience, your current activities, hobbies and interests.

Tell your pen pal that you will be visiting him/her.

You should write at least 150 words

Dear John,

Hi! This is Raj, from Delhi, your pen pal. It was nice to learn from your letter that we both share
quite a lot of common interests and hobbies. The subjects that we had opted in our respective
secondary studies are co-incidentally common. As a matter of fact, it is due to this reason that the
industry which we both are employed is also common.

It is good to learn that you are also serving a Financial Industry, after your specialisation in the
stream of Finance. However, ironically, the respective companies in which we both are
employed are arch-rivals in the industry of Finance.

Well, that is something on the professional side of us. Due to immense work pressure, I have
lately joined yoga and meditation classes. However, I still never miss my age-old hobby of
swimming. It is hard to recollect even a single day, barring the weekly off, when I miss a dip in
the swimming pool. Apart from this, the weekly off is generally devoted to spending time,
strictly with family. The overall credit to my health, however, goes to the one and a half session
of yoga classes in the morning.

Hey, do make it a possibility to spend a few days at my residence and attend the wonderful
classes of yoga. In the meanwhile, a programme by the Yoga Institute is going to be held in
your city in the month of November. I have enrolled myself for the same. The programme is for
a week wherein the boarding and lodging are taken care of by the Yoga Institutes.

I will certainly try to come and meet you during the week.

Let us catch up in the coming November and till then take care and keep in touch.

Your pal,
Raj

You live in a room in a college where you share it with another student. You find
it very difficult to study and work there because your roommate always has
friends visiting. He/she has parties in the room and sometimes borrows your
things without asking you.
Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college and ask for a new room next
term. You would prefer a single room and explain your reasons.

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I wish to move into a new room next term. I would prefer a
single room, as I find the present sharing arrangement inconvenient.

I must explain that the reason for my dissatisfaction is my roommates inconsiderate behaviour.
For one thing, his friends are constantly visiting him, for another, he regularly holds noisy
parties. In addition, he sometimes borrows my things without asking me. In these circumstances,
I find it difficult to concentrate on my studies, and I am falling behind in my assignments.

I am sure you will agree that the only solution is for me to move into a room of my own, where I
will be free from such distractions. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could find a single room
for me, preferably not in the same building but as near to the college campus as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Heer

You find that your study load is too heavy. Write a letter to your college teacher
explaining why you need to withdraw from two courses. Ask if it is possible to
obtain a refund.

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Prof. Jandriya,

I am writing to formally request to withdraw from two courses: Introduction to Elementary Education
(EDU602) and Teaching Methods (EDU 619)

The main reason for reducing my course load is that I am finding it extremely difficult to manage six
courses. In the beginning of the term, I was perhaps overly optimistic about juggling both my full-time
studies and my part-time job (20 hours/week). Because I really must work part-time, I have no other
choice but to decrease my course load. I am planning on taking the two courses during the summer
semester if they are available. Thus I will be able to complete all the courses for the degree program by
the following year.

I would also like to request a tuition refund and hope I am not too late to receive the full
reimbursement. I am sorry for any inconveniences I have caused by this change in plans. This decision
was not taken lightly, and I do appreciate the kind consideration you have shown to me.

Thank you for your attention to these requests. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me
at 277-9144. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely yours,

Alex Dalton

You are an international student and have borrowed a book from the local
public library. You left the book on a bus and when you contacted the bus
company, they could not find it.

Write a letter to the librarian explaining the situation and asking what you should do.

Dear Mrs Lian,

Last week I borrowed an English grammar book, "English Grammar Exercises" from your
library to help me improve my knowledge of English. It was extremely useful, so when I went to
visit a friend I took the book with me to show her how good it was.

Unfortunately, when I was on the bus going home, I fell asleep and missed my bus stop. I woke
up at the next stop and rushed forward to the driver to ask him to stop but forgot to bring the
book. As a result, the book was left on the bus. When I rang the bus company the next day, they
could not find it and suggested that somebody must have picked it up.

Could you please let me know what I have to do now? As I am an international student I do not
have very much money, but of course, I will pay for a new copy of the book if this is necessary.

Yours faithfully

Laura Sian

One of your friends wants to apply for a job that involves working with foreign
teenagers. Write a letter of recommendation for him/her.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I have learned from your newspaper advertisement that your centre is organising an international
summer camp for overseas teenagers, and you are looking for a bilingual assistant tutor to work with
the children. I am writing to you to recommend one of my best friends, Helen Wang, for this post.

Helen used to be my classmate at Beijing Normal University, where she was already a very active
organiser and participant in extracurricular activities. With her outstanding leadership skills and cheerful
personality, she was elected chairperson of the Student Union several times.
Busy as she was, she passed the College English Test Band Six and completed her major teenage
psychology with an excellent school record. Upon her graduation, she was assigned to be a teacher in
an international high school in Beijing, where she has been teaching bilingual lessons for five years.
Whats more, she loves her job and enjoys working with children. This has won her great popularity
among her students.

Therefore, I do not hesitate to recommend her as an ideal candidate for the post you advertised. I am
sure you will make a wise decision in hiring her.

Sincerely yours,

Elizabeth Harley.

A friend has asked you to babysit on Saturday and wants to know how much you
charge per hour for this. Unfortunately, you already have a commitment this
weekend and cannot help. However, you are free the following weekend.

Write a letter to your friend explaining that you are not able to help this time, but could

Dear Margarita,

Thank you for asking me to babysit for you. As you know I enjoy looking after Anthony and would be
happy to help you out. However, this weekend I have a commitment which I cannot break.

My parents are coming to visit and I am going to take them down to the coast as I have always promised
to do. They are getting older so I like to spend as much time with them as possible. Also, it is my father's
birthday and I want to celebrate with them. I am really sorry that I am not able to help this time, but I
am free next weekend and I would be glad to babysit for you then if you should choose to go out for the
evening.

My charge is fifteen dollars per hour until midnight and twenty dollars per hour after that. You would
need to give me any special instructions you might have and, of course, leave a phone number in case of
emergency.

Yours sincerely
Amir hassan

You have received a letter from your bank, asking you to acknowledge receipt of
a new bank card. However, the card was missing from the envelope.

Write a letter to the bank's head office. In your letter:

explain why you are writing

express concern about the missing card
ask them what they intend to do

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform you that I received a letter from my bank today, which was supposed to
contain my new bank card. Unfortunately, there was no bank card enclosed in the envelope when
I opened it.

I telephoned the bank to explain the problem, but I could not get through to the right department,
even though I waited on the line for over half an hour, which was extremely annoying.

In the letter, you asked me to acknowledge the receipt of the card, but obviously, I cannot do this
as I have not received it. I am now very worried because it is a possibility that my card has gone
to another customer or got lost. What will happen if somebody has already used the card and
spent my money? Will the bank repay me?

Is it possible for the bank to cancel this card so nobody else can use it? Could you also send me a
new card by secure means?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

'X'

You live in a flat and you have a tenancy agreement which states that you must
give three months' notice when you wish to leave. You have paid a deposit of two
months' rent. Now a member of your family has a problem and you need to give
up your flat and return home as soon as possible.

Write a letter to your landlady. Explain your circumstances, tell her what you intend to do
and ask her for special consideration.

Dear Margarita,
I am writing in deep sorrow to inform you that my only son Andrew is severely ill and hence we are
leaving for our hometown once and for all. I would request you to settle our tenancy agreement before I
exit.

As you know we rented your house three years back, all was going well for us from then, until last
month when my son Andrew was diagnosed with a benign growth - a suspected brain tumour. As you
can assume, our life has turned miserable from that moment. We plan to move back to our hometown
seeking more expertise in his treatment.
Given the situation, I would request you to kindly settle our contract on house renting. Just letting you
know, I paid $10000 as advance prior to occupancy and also would plead you to wave me the three
months notice period, as such a day was unexpected. Please let me know when you could return the
advance amount so as to facilitate my exit.

hope you will consider the circumstances, under which I am requesting such a favor from you and will
do the needed full as an act of appeasing.

Thanking you
sincerely
Jones.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to you inform you about a mobile phone that I lost during my
holiday trip when I was in Pondicherry. The mobile phone is an Apple iPhone, its price is
approximately 70,000 rupees and is of black colour. I had an insurance coverage for my
mobile phone from your insurance company.

The incident occurred when I was on a holiday trip in Pondicherry between 28 January
2017 to 31 January 2017. I was on Paradise beach on 30 January 2017 when I lost my
mobile phone in the sand. I had made efforts in searching the mobile phone but was not
successful in finding it. Since I lost the mobile phone I lodged FIR in the nearest police
station.

Since I hold an insurance cover for the mobile phone I would like to claim the insurance
amount for the lost phone. As per the policies of the insurance, I am liable to claim an
amount of 62000 as an insurance cover for the mobile lost. Also please find the invoice
and the FIR copy for the lost mobile phone along with this letter.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Write a letter to your company manager saying that you want to leave the
company.

what have you learned while working for the company?

did you enjoy working there?
what are your reasons for leaving?

Dear Mr James,
I am writing to express my thanks for the five years that I spent working with you in St
Jones company and I'd like to inform you that I am resigning by the end of next month.

Working as a sale supervisor for the last five years, I have gained very good experience in
dealing with customers and marketing skills that promote me a managerial position in
Dunken's Brothers Company. I asked them to allow me joining my new position at the
beginning of November to give me the appropriate time to be in charge with you till you find
another employee.

I will always remember the perfect time that I spent working with your team. All the people
of the group were helpful, co-operative and friendly. I wish great progress and success for
you and your team.

Yours Sincerely,

You were supposed to go on an interview in a few weeks, but you have since
found out you cannot go on the date arranged.

Write a letter to the potential employer. In your letter

Tell them why you need to move the interview time

Ask to change the interview date
Explain that you are still interested in being interviewed for the job

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apologise as I will not be able to present myself for the interview which is
scheduled in the next week.

I have found myself in this unavoidable situation for a reason. My immediate boss is out of town
for the rest of this week and the following next week as well. Thus I have been made responsible
for handling our overseas clients who are due to visit us this week. They are scheduled to leave
not earlier than the next weekend. Therefore I will be unable to attend the interview.

I would request you to please postpone the interview date to a later date preferably after two
weeks, if feasible. This would allow me enough time to complete my tasks and be available for
the interview. I aspire to be working with professionals like you in your esteemed organisation. I
look forward to getting a favourable reply from you soon.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,
Jeremy.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a blender that I purchased from your store and the
poor customer service I received afterwards.

Last week, I purchased a White Line blender from your store at Madison Avenue after I saw
the advertisement of this product in the newspaper. As soon as I tried to make a smoothie in the
blender, its blades got clogged and have not been functioning properly since then even when I
cleaned them up. In shock and awe, I called the customer service, but I was told by the
salesperson that there is nothing that she could do about it as she is not responsible for any
problems that may arise after taking the product home. Since this purchase had cost me a small
fortune, I have been inordinately stressed about the situation.

My intention in writing this letter is to request you to replace this broken blender of mine with a
new one as I have a three-year warranty on this blender. Further, I expect you to issue a show
cause notice to your salesperson about her coarse demeanour towards me.
I anticipate prompt remedial action.

Yours sincerely,
Sam Adams

You are a student at an English language school in Brighton and are living in
private accommodation with other flatmates. You have not had hot water or
heating for some time. The landlord's workmen have tried to fix the problem but
without success.

Write a letter to the landlord. In your letter:

State your reason for writing

Describe the problems and explain how you feel
Propose a solution and risk the landlord to take action

Dear Mr Smith,

How are you? I am writing this letter in connection with a pesky problem surfaced a few days
ago in our house on Randal Street, Brighton. The heating system of the home has been non-
functional for more than 5 days now.

For your information, as per the agreement, we reported the issue to your workmen first.
However, they have failed to fix the problem and have exacerbated the situation by drilling some
holes in the bathroom wall, channels for cold air to freeze us in this intense winter.

Due to the non-functional heating system, we are unable to control water temperature, and we
are compelled to heat water using kitchen gas burners for our daily domestic use. Similarly, we
can't control even room temperature and we are living with thick winter clothes donned on our
body round the clock. This is highly unpleasant and obnoxious to all of us. As a repercussion,
two of the flatmates are currently suffering from high fever and we have arranged their
temporary accommodation at a friend's house to recuperate.

In order to fix the issue, all in all, I suggest engaging a better maintenance service agency with
more skilled professionals than your workmen. I find many such agencies in our daily
newspaper classified.

Finally, considering the severity of the trouble, I expect your immediate action and resolution.
Also, as per our rental agreement, non-resolution of issues related to facilities within 10 days of
the report are subjected to stop the payment of rent until issues get resolved.

Hence, please consider this letter as a notice to start the agreed notice period.
Yours sincerely
RR

A friend has agreed to look after your house and pet while you are on holiday.
Write a letter to your friend.

Give contact details for when you are away

Give instructions about how to care for your pet
Describe other household duties

Dear Sam,

I felt so relieved when you stepped up to take care of my place and my dog when I plan to go on
vacations. I cannot thank you enough. To be honest, I was really hoping that you would respond to this
request of mine when I posted it on Facebook.

Taking care of new stuff can be overwhelming, I understand that. If you need to ask anything while I am
gone, just shoot a message either on WhatsApp or on Messenger app. I was told by the resort in which I
shall be staying, uninterrupted internet access is available there. My GSM number, however, will remain
switched off. If not, I will keep on receiving calls from work which will ultimately defeat the purpose of
this getaway.

As for Tommy, the dog, he doesn't really need much care. Just ensure that he gets 3 meals a day at 6-8
hour interval. Also, let him be outside in the evening whenever possible so that he can play with the ball.
Also, don't forget to bathe him preferably every alternate day so that he doesn't start stinking.

I know that you will not be inhabiting my house full time so there aren't much chores that you need to
do. Some small things like emptying the trash can, cleaning the parking area and watering the plants
need to be done regularly.

Once again, I really appreciate the help you are extending to me and hope to return this favour back to
you in times to come.

Best regards,
Rouhullah

You are going to visit New Zealand for an 'English and Homestay' program. You

Write your first letter to the family. In your letter

Introduce yourself
Ask the family some questions to get information that is important to you
Tell the family about your arrival date and time.

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

My name is Jones Nathan and I am glad to be informed that you will be my homestay host family during
my visit to New Zealand. I received a notification email from the college faculty mentioning the same an
hour ago.

I am French by nationality, currently pursuing my graduation in London University, Britain. I am the only
child to my parents who are settled in France. I have enrolled in the "English and Homestay program"
conducted at our off-campus centre at New Zealand.

I would be glad to know more details from your side, apart from the Homestay facilities and amenities
provided. My main concern would be about the transportation system and its availability during my
outdoor engagements, which is expected to be from 10.00 to 16.00 hours of the day. Another thing is
about information about neighbourhood libraries if any? In addition to this, I am curious to know about
any French national whom you are in acquaintance with?

My expected arrival date is on 19th of this month and the flight is scheduled at 6.00 hours at Munich
airport. It would be of great help if you could fetch me from there as I am totally new to the place and
language.

I am really looking forward to spending some quality time with you and family. It would be much
appreciated if you could revert to my queries at the earliest.

In anticipation for a prompt reply.

Sincerely yours
Jones.

Dear Sir,

I am Alex Jones, an aspirant of the forthcoming training course on "Time Management", at your college.
I am writing to inquire about the accommodation facilities available for the course seekers.

I am currently employed in the city of Boston, as a Chartered Accountant in a reputed firm. This
discourse on time management (as detailed in your college website), and as I reckon, would serve the
best in purpose for me. My only concern is about the accommodation amenities arranged from your
end. The very intention of this letter is that I would like to take the privilege of describing my priorities
on accommodation arranged.

First of all, it would be highly appreciated if I am rendered with a single home or flat, as I have had
enough problems, prior to sharing my personal space. Secondly, I would like to dwell in a calm and quiet
environment, as the tranquillity of the workplace is of at most importance for me. Lastly, I would be glad
to stay close to the course venue, so as to ensure optimum management of time.

Last but not least, I plan to arrive on 19th of this month at your venue via road. I would be more than
happy, to get myself comfortable with the new amenities, a day before the course actually commence. I
really look forward to spending some quality time at your place.

In anticipation

Jones

Dear Sir /Madam,

My name is Namrata, and I live in the room No L202, which is two-bed-shared room in your
college hostel. I am writing this letter to let you know my concerns about the room, where I am
facing some unavoidable and unmanageable problems and those are impacting my study badly.

First of all the room is very small to accommodate two beds in that let leave the other necessary
furniture. We hardly get space to walk or move in this room and because of that, we got hurt
many times by the sharp corner of the iron beds. There is no proper ventilation facility in this
room and we scarcely get the sunlight and fresh air. We are bound to use the light 24 hours a day
and this is not good for our physical and mental health. Its quite suffocating and because of this,
I am not able to concentrate in my study. I go to one of my friends room whenever I have to
study. Moreover, the attached bathroom lock has been broken and this is really embarrassing.
We have complained about this issue to the carpenter twice but could not get any response till
date. My final exams are going to start from the early next month.

Therefore, I humbly request you to allow me any other room where at least proper ventilation
facility is present. This would be very helpful for me to concentrate on my study and pass my
exams with a good score.

Looking forward to your positive response.

Sincerely Yours,
Namrata

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Joyce Tan and I rented a car, Toyota Vios, number AKE 3411, from your company on 15 November
for 3 days. It was under your branch office at Ipoh Garden South. I am writing this letter to inform you
that a minor car accident occurred on 16th Nov 2016.

On 16th November morning, my family members and I were heading to Tambun for a farm visit. When I
was driving through Jalan Tambun, the car in the front stopped very abruptly without any hint and even
after I tried my best, I could not stop the collision. It was entirely the fault of the driver of the other car.
The front bumper and bonnet of my car got dents and the left headlight glass was broken. The front
car's back bumper and tail lights were scratched and broken. Fortunately, no one was injured from the
accident. After this, I had reported the police for the car accident and that would ensure that you can
claim the insurance. The owner of the other car also gave his contact number and would bear the
expenses for the repair and I would be happy to let you two meet and discuss the unfortunate event.

Kindly accept my sincere apology for this unexpected incidence. I am also willing to bear the cost of the
repair fee if you need me to. You may mail the bill to my office address and I will settle it within a week.
Please give me a call if you need any further information. My contact number is written on the form I
signed before hiring your car and you can also reach me at 91365678.

Yours sincerely,
Joyce Tan

end as well. I want to share a good news with you - I have got a new job with an attractive package,
lucrative benefits and better career prospects and I will move to your city next month.

I want some help from you before moving to this city and it is related to finding a place to live in. I want
to reside near the South Delhi resident. My office is in South Delhi centre area, so I want a place close to
my office. Even my childrens school will be near my office. So I think this location would ideal for me
and my family. I heard many times that traffic is a big problem in Delhi, so I believe staying near my
office and childrens school would be the perfect solution to avoid choking traffic problems.

Furthermore, I would prefer to rent a flat with two bedrooms, one kitchen, one guest room and a large
hall. However, I would like to have a flat with amenities such as playground, parking area and of course
full-time security.

I am sure you will help me out to find a good accommodation so that I can settle down quickly and
without much hassle. I will inform you shortly my date of arrival.

Best regards,
Smith.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I had given the radio for repair and it is still not ready
even after one week.

I had bought the radio from your shop as it is one of the best available shops. But, it was an utter
disappointment when the brand new radio was not working as it should be. I talked to your
representatives in the shop and they agreed to repair it within a couple of days. Now, it has been
a week and radio is not yet ready. Whenever I call on shop phone number, one of your salesmen
always promises to deliver the radio within one day. But it was never delivered and all I got is
apology and regret.

Please repair the radio by day end today as it is already much delayed. If it is not possible, kindly
provide me with a new radio of same branch and model.

Thank You.

Yours faithfully,

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Margaret,

I have decided to write this letter to inform you with a few personal ideas I have about our college
cafeteria.

It is personally felt that our college cafeteria offers exceptionally good food, which always tastes
incredibly amazing. I appreciate the hard work of all the chefs and their attempt to feed the students
who can sometimes be picky.

However, not only myself, but it seems that many of the students do not feel pleased about how
expensive most of the foods are. All restaurants charge at least $15 for each lunch menu and this is
considered a very high price compared to the restaurants outside the college.

It appears that students will soon make an inevitable choice to eat outside the campus due to their poor
financial situation. As an individual who would love to continue eating fantastic food at our central
eatery, I would like to suggest you publish an article about this issue. I hope this will help the college
restaurant owners become aware of how we think of their food price.

If you have any further questions about this, please let me know.

Yours faithfully,
Kay

Give them some idea of what you have planned for them
Tell them some important things that they might find useful

Dear Annie,

I hope you are as excited to come to Bangalore as I am to receive you. I received your letter
where you have asked the direction for my house. But please do not worry; I will come to the
airport to pick you all. I am sure you all will be tired of travelling and I do not want you to go
through the hassle of hiring a can and giving them directions.

I am really looking forward to your visit and have planned few things. We can go to Mysore for
a day trip. Mysore has a beautiful palace and a Zoo; which is a house of some exotic animals.
Then I have also planned a 3 day's trip to Ooty. Ooty is known as "Queens of hills" and have
pristine tea gardens and mesmerising views. I am sure you all will love it.

Since Ooty is a cold hilly place, so please get some winter clothing and comfortable shoes. One
thick jacket and a sweater would be good. Also as you know, Bangaloreans speak Kannada, it
would be good if you could learn basic Kannada words and numbers. You might find it useful
when travelling alone in Bangalore.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Preeti

What do you suggest them to do?

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

My name is Ravibabu and I am currently residing at Seven Hills. I use trains to commute to my
work and the recently changed train timetable causes problems to get to my work on time.

I used to get the train at 7:40 am from Seven Hills and usually reached at my destination around
8:50 am and it was about five minutes walk from the station to my workplace. It was more
convenient to reach my office on time.

The 7:40 AM train no longer stops at my station and I am forced to take either 7:15 AM or 7:58
AM train. If I am taking the train at 7:58 AM and arrive at my workplace by only 9:05 which is
late for my office. The 7:15 AM train is too early to get in. I also checked with fellow passengers
who are also struggling to get to the work on time.

I request you revisit revised train timings and reinstate 7:40 AM train to stop at our station,
which will enable me or fellow passengers to travel to work on time.

I am looking forward to hearing a positive reply.

Yours Sincerely,
Ravi.

I am writing to inform you that during my last journey to the amazing Phuket Island which was covered
by your travel insurance service, Ive lost a set of scuba gear.

Everything was great, ten successful dives were done, included night dives, deep dives, wreck dives and
the last one was drift diving in our last day of the trip. It was just because of the lack of knowledge that I
didnt carry carabiners in order to attach my stuff. I would never have gone there with heavy equipment
if I knew how the water flow could be enormous. It was in the boat where I first found out I had lost my
Parachute, a pair of Fin, and my lovely non-manual Meridian dive computer.

As a loyal customer to your insurance travel agency, I demand to receive the coverage of the all lost
items as compensation. All items were fairly new and I had bought them right before I went on this trip.
I would appreciate if you could take an immediate action about this case due to the fact that the next
scuba diving season is rally close and I need that money to buy new vital equipment.
Yours truly,
M. M. Akbary.

Dear Mr. Simpson,

I am your next door neighbour. As you may have already noticed, we have recently settled in this
flat. Therefore, I have not the opportunity to be acquainted with you yet. In fact, we are a family
of three: me, my wife and our 8 years old child.

The following Sunday is going to be my sons birthday; hence, my spouse and I have decided to
celebrate with family and friends on that special night in our apartment. The party will
commence on 7:00 pm and terminate around midnight. It will consist of some music and dancing
indoors in which a small music band will also be attending; however, dinner will be served about
10:00 oclock in the garden. Although the participants are comparatively limited, we are afraid to
bother you by late night noises.

On the other hand, I had initially intended to invite you and your family to our ceremony by
phone, but I hesitated whether it could be a good idea or not. After consulting with my wife, she
suggested it would be more appropriate if I write a letter to do so.

We will be deeply pleased in case you kindly accept my invitation to our beloved ones
celebration. In this way, not only find we the chance to become familiar with you, but the
gathering might also perturb you less.

Best Regards,
Ali Kazemian

Dear Kathy,

Hope you are doing well. It has been a long time that we have not written a letter to each other. I am
writing this letter to let you know that I have recently changed my job.

Though I was satisfied professionally with my previous company, it was hard for me to balance the
professional and personal life. Long working hours were not allowing me to get some time for myself.
Moreover, I was looking for an opportunity which allows me to grow in people management area along
with technical skills. The new company offers both. I am responsible for the project deliverables as well
as the need to lead a team of five people. I am truly excited about this new role.

I also wanted to inform you that I finally bought a car. It is a second-hand car, however; it is in a very
good condition. I enjoy a daily drive to work.

I look forward to knowing the update at your end.

Yours faithfully,
Naaz

Dear Harish,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I would like to take this opportunity to express my
gratitude for my stay at your home in Adelaide last weekend, while you were away on the
business trip. I had a pleasant time over there.

I find Adelaide is very interesting for shopping. I bought a brand new Rolex wrist watch for my
wife, from Rundle street shopping centre. I was actually tempted by the fascinating brown colour
strap and square shaped dial. The dial has roman numbers too. I am very excited about it.

Unfortunately, I couldnt find it in my luggage when I am back to Sydney. I remember that I

have kept it in your living room cupboard safe box. I want to gift it to my wife on her birthday
next week and surprise her.

Actually, one of my colleagues is travelling to Sydney from your place this weekend. I can
request him to collect it from you. He lives just a couple of miles away from your apartment. I
will pass your address and contact number to him. I think you can hand it over to him without
any trouble. His name is Brad Ryan, around 40 years old. Please check his identity card before
you hand over the stuff.

I hope to see you soon in Sydney.

Yours Lovingly,

Ramesh NV.

Dear Ms Linda,

I am Ramesh, tenant of one of your properties in William Street, Norwood. My flat number is
17. I am writing this to bring my dissatisfaction on some of the household stuff that you have
provided as part of our rental agreement.

In the living room, the sofa is in pathetic condition. The colour of the cushion cloths is totally
faded out and they are stinking too. The coffee table is disjointed. Some of the buttons of the
remote controller for the television are not functioning. In the kitchen, the refrigerator is not
maintaining temperature accurately and I found it futile. Grocery cupboard door locks are
missing. Overall, some of the furniture you have provided is in faulty condition.

I request you to look into this matter seriously. I recommend you to arrange for repair and
maintenance of the living room furniture and replace the fridge. New keys for the cupboard can
be prepared by a locksmith. I expect your action on this as soon as possible, as these problems
affecting my daily routine.

Yours Sincerely,
Ramesh.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am Mrs Renu from Kandy Women Development Organization. I went through your
advertisement dated on 2nd March 2016 and writing this letter with the intention to inform about
a person deserves for the reward mentioned in the advertisement.

My organisation director, Mrs Hemamali, is the person I would like to suggest for this reward.
She has been working for the widow women in the society more than last 30 years. She is a
capable, experienced and talented woman suitable to receive this reward.

A woman knows another womans difficulties than a man. She utilises her time for other needy
women. Not only as an organisations director but also personally she has supported many
widows and needy women, living in remote areas. By her talent of need identification and
support them according to their requirements, she became a volunteer leader in the society. She
never differentiates people based on their race, religion, disability and colour. That is, she treats
all equally and she is an exemplary personality to many.

I would like to suggest a reward for this excellent lady; a trophy printed her name and her service
for the community. This should be an award for her lifetime achievement. Not only me but also
many women who obtained supports through her would be happy if she receives this reward. We
would be highly thankful if you could nominate Mrs Hemamali also in your list.

Thank you

Sincerely,
M. M. Renu

You were hurt in a minor accident inside a supermarket and you wish to
complain to the supermarket.

Write a letter to the manager of the supermarket. In your letter

say who are you

give details about the accident
suggest how the supermarket could prevent similar accidents.

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

I am writing this complaint letter about an accident that happened to me during buying some
fresh vegetables from your supermarket.

My name is Shahin, and I am working in a multinational company as an engineer. I live on the

opposite side of your supermarket. However, as a regular customer, every weekend it is
necessary for me to go to the supermarket for buying some foods, fruits and other necessary
items.

Yesterday it was weekend and as usual, I went to the market to buy some fresh vegetables.
Suddenly, at the north corner side of the fruit market, a woman collided with me with her
shopping bucket at the night time. As you know, at this corner side no one can see each other
while walking especially at the night. So, this unavoidable accident occurred as the lack of
attention of your management. In addition, there was no electric bulb and the road was slippery.
Though this was a minor accident, it could have been worse!

This supermarket is very important for the people because every day thousands of people come
here for shopping. You are the manager of this supermarket, and therefore, it is your
responsibility to maintain this place to avoid such accident. Just change the electric bulb and
repair the road to avoid the unexpected accidents. I hope you will give your immediate attention
to this matter.

Yours faithfully,
Shahin

You are unhappy about a plan to make your local airport bigger and increase
the number of flights. You live near the airport.

Write a letter to a local newspaper office. In your letter

Explain where you live

Describe the problem
Give reasons why you don't want this development.

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to your newspaper to protest about the development of our local airport where I
live.

My home is situated in Bogra city near the Bogra International Airport even more than two hundred
people, including children and older people, are living here. There is a beautiful park in front of my
home, where most people pass their leisure time playing, walking, and gossiping.

A huge noise is created especially at night when the airplane comes or departure in the airport. If the
number of flights is increased, the noise will also raise in the local area. This could result in an immense
embarrassment to the people in particular for the children because they need a quiet environment for
their study purpose.

Moreover, the airport authority wants to expand the area; so, our lovely park, which is essential for
every person of this locality, will be diminished. For these reasons, every person of our locality is against
this proposed development. If you agree with me, please publish editorials to your newspaper to protest
this unnecessary and detrimental development.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Shohag

To celebrate this occasion, I have arranged a small party at my home on this coming Sunday. I am
writing this letter to invite you to the party. I have invited all our childhood friends hence it would be a
get-together party for all of us. It has been so long since we did not meet each other. This party will
definitely be a good reason to meet. Moreover, last year I have shifted to a new apartment which is in
Satellite area of the city. It is very easy to find my residence. First, you should reach the Satellite area,
main road. Towards the left of the entrance, you will find a shopping mall, from there you just come
straight away and you will find my apartment.

However, if you have any difficulty in finding my home you just call me, I will send my cousin for your
help. See you at the party then.

problems. Request some compensation or refund.

You should write at least 150 words

Dear Sir,

I am writing you this letter to express my utter disappointment with the quality of service you
had provided me in your holiday package.

I booked with your company holiday package last month to Sydney after your customer service
officer promised me that my tour would be absolutely perfect but on the contrary, everything
went opposite as his tall claim. Not only the flight was delayed but the hotel that offered to us
was of a low standard having low-quality service and noise issue round the clock. The bus tour
trip was also cancelled as there werent enough people present at that time.

In this worst case scenario, I expect a refund from your company for all the charges that I had
paid in advance before going otherwise I will have no other option to approach the concerned
authority for filing the formal complaint against your company with regards to false claims.

I hope to have a prompt action on my complaint and refund request.

explain why you can no longer do this work

Dear Sir,

I am Jane Smith, a cadet of your community-based rehabilitation team since 2002. I am writing to inform
you that, I will not be able to continue with your organisation anymore, as I am leaving for my home
country once and for all.

From the time I was enrolled, it has been a wonderful journey so far, for me. I was predominantly
working with the rehabilitation team, assisting the medical panel of experts. My duties mainly
comprised of the initial assessment of patients, who formed the indigent part of our local community.
The assessment mainly included monitoring the physical, social and emotional wellness of patients.

As you may remember, I was pursuing my graduation here at Boston University. Now that my study
permit has expired, I am preparing to leave for my home country in a couple of weeks. Henceforth, to
continue with the team, would be cumbersome.
However, it would be my pleasure, to introduce one of my junior in college, who is willing to take over
my position in the team. Now, the whole charade of recruitment of a new employee, the prerequisites
and all, as intended I leave it upon you. His name is Mr Jackson and he will be in contact with you soon.

Once again, I would take this opportunity to thank everyone, who stood beside me during my tenure
with our NGO.

Sincerely yours
Jane

You are applying for a job and need a letter of reference from someone who
knew you when you were at college.

Dear Mrs Sweeney

How are you? I hope everything is fine at the school and that you have been well. I still
remember the dynamic way in which you taught grammar to me and all of the teacher trainees in
your English class. Thanks again for those important lessons.

I am writing in connection with a letter of reference that I need for a job that I have applied for
recently. As I am due to graduate next month, I have applied for a position as an ESL teacher at a
private language school in Tokyo, Japan. You might remember my telling you how very much I
looked forward to teaching and traveling around the world. Now I have the chance. I am
confident that I can make a difference in the lives of students who need to learn English.

In the letter of reference, I would appreciate it if you could include information related to my
trustworthiness, my enthusiasm and my cross-cultural awareness while in teacher training
college. As the job is in Japan, they do not have the chance to interview me and will base their
decision largely on my letters of reference. I would need to have the letter in two weeks, by July
1st.

Thank you kindly in advance,

Yours sincerely,

Grace Smith
Dear Julie

Thanks so much for your latest letter. I'm really excited to hear that you're planning to visit
Toronto. It will give me a chance to take you around, as you did so kindly for me when I was in
Amsterdam last year.

Regarding your visit, I would be happy to help in any way possible. First, unless you really like
freezing weather, I suggest you come in the summer months of July or August. Though most
hotels are expensive at that time, we have some wonderful guest suites available in our high-rise
building, for only about $50 per night. They are fully furnished studio apartments, with a
kitchen, so you can have the option of eating in. Just let me know your dates and I can make a
reservation for you.

Summer is also the time when all the tourist sites are open. We can visit Centre Island, Canada's
Wonderland, Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Science Centre and
Thousand Islands. The weather should be warm and comfortable, around 25 30 degrees
Celsius, so bring your informal summer clothes, a swimsuit and an umbrella too. We do get
summer showers quite often.

I can't wait for you to come! Write soon with more details,

Warm wishes

Irene
