(BAMTI)

A PROPOSE TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND

TRAINING (TVET)

TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRMAN

BAUCHI LOCAL GOVERNMENT

BAUCHI STATE

BY

JULY, 2017

INTRODUCTION

With recent problems in building technology in Bauchi LGA, there should be a sensitive solution

to the challenges facing it. The challenges are due to the lack of modern freemason in the LGA,

and There are a lot of unemployed youths in the local government who are not engaged in any

occupation or activities but rooming the streets and mostly participating in dubious activities which

could result in damaging their future. Its quite heart-touching to let our potential youth go astray

due to the lack of employment.

Masonry is the building of structures from individual units, which are often laid in and bound

together by mortar, the term masonry can also refer to the units themselves. The common materials

of masonry construction are concrete block, brick, building stone such as marble, granite,

travertine and limestone etc. masonry is generally a lightly durable form of construction. However,

the materials used, the quality of the mortar, and workmanship and the pattern in which the units

are laid (assembled) can substantially affect the durability of the overall masonry construction. A

person who constructs masonry is called a mason or bricklayer. Apprentices in this field should

carry out completely and efficiently all construction related to masonry unit installation and

plastering from working drawing. They must be competent and knowledgeable in all safety aspects

of the trade, materials, use of tools and mechanical plants, setting out and measuring of

foundations, walls and wall openings, laying of block and bricks and ceilings and repairs and after

existing brick/block work, and other construction; erect and dismount scaffolds, construct drainage

systems, and have knowledge on the types of pipes and special fittings of drainage system; Apply

knowledge on tempering to trenches, to various types of soils and make temporary supports during

demolishing work by using dead shore, racking shores, flying shores; must have good command

of basic communication regarding the trade, the functional requirements and design factors of

various buildings, drainage

youths to be fully self-independent or self-reliant citizen by giving them a vocational and technical

education training and awareness. The Programme is engineered toward creating a source of

revenue to the local government.

Although the program is quite financial exhausting but if its fully implemented would

multiply, or generate revenue more than ten times injected. While at the same instant some

numbers of the participants would be retained in the local government works department.
