New store on South Park Avenue

is first in Hamburg for Cricket Wireless

For those in the area interested in prepaid
mobile phone service without a contract,
Cricket Wireless has opened its first Hamburg
location at 5999 South Park Ave.
On Sept. 29, the store celebrated its grand
opening with special discount pricing for the
occasion and KISS 98.5 providing entertain-
ment and food. The companys business model
is one of offering simple, affordable wireless
plans.
Cricket Wireless, which has also expand-
ed service in Western New York with a new
store in Lockport, has been a subsidiary of
AT&T since the latter announced it would buy
the smaller carrier in 2013 and the Federal
Communications Commission approved the
merger in 2014. According to Cricket represen-
tatives, the new store, along with this partner-
ship, will lead to more local opportunities for
business.
We had some local folks come in from the
chamber and we introduced them to the store.
We had a radio remote and some fun store
activities out there, which we like to do to
get the community acquainted with the new
location, Craig Chilelli, marketing director
for Cricket Wireless in upstate New York, said
of the opening in Hamburg. We have done
many of these, and relatively speaking, it was
very successful.
Chilelli said there had been a gap in our
distribution, in the Hamburg area. Also,
there had been some interest from people in
the area, while stores in other nearby neigh-
borhoods were successful. The retailer did
have a store close in Blasdell on 3540 McKinley
Parkway.
That particular location, given its close
proximity to the village and the retail area of
Hamburg, its a busy, retail kind of street,
he said. Thats what helped us make the de-
cision with our authorized retail partner. We
decided that was a good place for us to expand
in Western New York.
In the case of the South Park Avenue store,
the exterior of the store was already suitable
for Crickets purposes, and essentially only
needed new signage. The interior needed
to have Crickets fixture package installed,
with the intention of creating an experience
consistent with how the companys stores
look elsewhere in the country, so they worked
with their authorized retail partners to install
these.
To take that a step further, we have really
adopted some of the successes from the AT&T
post-paid side, from a customer service per-
spective. We really provide a consistent, very
detailed customer experience, whether youre
buying a phone in Hamburg or Boise, Idaho,
Chilelli said. Thats something that we really
pride ourselves on and work very hard to do to
distinguish ourselves from our competition.
