Why?
We chose this topic because weve seen students get in trouble for not knowing
what their rights are

Students often dont have access to what is legal in terms of regulations that
schools enforce

Students should be aware of what their rights are and what to do when they are
violated
How we organized for our research
During the research process:

1. We were first assigned to ask questions within our main question.

2. We conducted a slew of research

3. We then created a survey for the end users and continued to look at a variety of
statistics and additional research.
Main Questions
1. Are students aware of their rights at school?

2. Are teachers aware over the limitation of their rights?

3. How we can make school is a safe place where students rights are protected at
all times?

4. How can we make students aware of their rights?

5. How can we create a place for students to know their rights and how to use that
knowledge?

Research

Age: Students should become aware of their rights at around ages 10-11 because thats when they become
more conscious and capable of understanding their rights
Students in secondary school (ages 10-13) are usually not even aware of their rights
Convention of student rights according to unicef is the rights to survival, to develop to the fullest, to protection
from harmful influence, of abuse and exploitation, and to participate fully in family, cultural and social life
UNICEF (2001).
Students usually are not taught their rights leading to confusion and misunderstanding
Process/Methods
1. We chose a topic that we thought would benefit students as a whole

2. We researched significant student rights

3. We reached out to experts that would provide us with the legal insight on thr
rights students hold

4. We created a survey that would give us data on what students already knew
about their rights

5. We are going to brainstorm ideas on how to inform students

Experts we collaborated with
We contacted the the organization ACLU which specializes in human rights.

We contacted them through email but they have not responded.

Questions:

At what age should students be taught/become aware of their rights as

students?
How closely related are student rights with the overall well being and
psychological state of students?
End Users We Contacted
Who were the end users you contacted?

in our case, e3 scholars and other students .

How did you contact them?

We created a form asking pertinent questions about students and their rights.

What type of questions did you ask?

End of Discovery Phase
By the end of the Discovery Phase we had created a more detailed main question:

HOW CAN WE HELP BRING AWARENESS TO

STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS?
