Fight for Animal rights, India (FFAR India) is a non-profit trust working for protection and

enforcement of animal rights in India. The Tamil Nadu government is planning to cull
wild boars, which have destroyed crops, in at least two districts on a trial basis

Declaring an animal as vermin is not the solution. Another species simply replaces
one

Analysis of tiger scats in 2012 showed that wild pigs are a major part of their diet.
While the animal is a pest, a blanket call to kill it is not the solution,

the decision does not auger well for wildlife as it could lead to excessive killing of the
animal which is an important source of nutrition for predators in low-prey density
areas. the problem has to be addressed scientifically and culling should not be the
first step.

Moreover, a study carried out at Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka showed

that wild boars provide 83 per cent of the biomass consumed by leopards and
wild dogs, and it is also a major food source for tigers. This decision will affect
the large carnivores.

Culling wild animals isn't part of the Indian

ethos we can do better to avoid conflict
