Drums and Keyboard

What we Learned
In this experience, participants learned how to play I IV V and a pentatonic scale in C Major, and
how to perform on a drum set. They rotated through stations in which they learned the
necessary skills to perform a cover on both instruments. The end goal was for them to be able
to perform a cover of Lean On Me by Bill Withers.

Applications
Outside of the session, participants might apply what they
learned in the following ways:
Providing chordal accompaniment for a song
Taking the chord shapes for I IV V I and
transposing it to another key
Providing a simple drum beat for a song
Improvising/making up a beat that feels
rhythmically good
Improvising on keyboard in a song
Figuring out the pentatonic scale or 5 note
scale of a key and using it to improvise over
chordal accompaniment
