ThistestisdonetodeterminetheaggregateimpactvalueofcoarseaggregatesasperIS:2386(PartIV)1963.Theapparatususedfordetermining
aggregateimpactvalueofcoarseaggregatesis
ImpacttestingmachineconformingtoIS:2386(PartIV)1963,ISSievesofsizes12.5mm,10mmand2.36mm,Acylindricalmetalmeasureof75mm
dia.and50mmdepth,Atampingrodof10mmcircularcrosssectionand230mmlength,roundedatoneendandOven.

PreparationofSample
i)Thetestsampleshouldconformtothefollowinggrading:
Passingthrough12.5mmISSieve100%
Retentionon10mmISSieve100%

ii)Thesampleshouldbeovendriedfor4hrs.atatemperatureof100to110oCandcooled.

iii)Themeasureshouldbeaboutonethirdfullwiththepreparedaggregatesandtampedwith25strokesofthetampingrod.

Afurthersimilarquantityofaggregatesshouldbeaddedandafurthertampingof25strokesgiven.Themeasureshouldfinallybefilledtooverflow,
tamped25timesandthesurplusaggregatesstruckoff,usingatampingrodasastraightedge.Thenetweightoftheaggregatesinthemeasureshouldbe
determinedtothenearestgram(WeightA).

ProceduretodetermineAggregateImpactValue
i)Thecupoftheimpacttestingmachineshouldbefixedfirmlyinpositiononthebaseofthemachineandthewholeofthetestsampleplacedinitand
compactedby25strokesofthetampingrod.
ii)Thehammershouldberaisedto380mmabovetheuppersurfaceoftheaggregatesinthecupandallowedtofallfreelyontotheaggregates.Thetest
sampleshouldbesubjectedtoatotalof15suchblows,eachbeingdeliveredatanintervalofnotlessthanonesecond.

ReportingofResults
i)Thesampleshouldberemovedandsievedthrougha2.36mmISSieve.Thefractionpassingthroughshouldbeweighed(WeightB).Thefraction
retainedonthesieveshouldalsobeweighed(WeightC)andifthetotalweight(B+C)islessthantheinitialweight(A)bymorethanonegram,the
resultshouldbediscardedandafreshtestdone.
ii)Theratiooftheweightofthefinesformedtothetotalsampleweightshouldbeexpressedasapercentage.
