Common channel management includes setup, release, and modification procedures.
Power control is used to control the power emission of the user equipment.
Hand-over is a special case of soft hand-over called softer hand-over: the same Node B
manages cells that communicate with user equipment.
Call processing is mapped on the CCM and CEM.
The Node B call processing supports multiple CEM modules. Multiple CEMs (or
multi-CEM) allows the use of several CEMs for call processing management.
Performance monitoring
This function is in charge of performing and reporting radio measurements.
Network interface
This function is in charge of managing the interface with the RNC:
physical layer management (configuration, alarm reporting)
layer 2 (IMA, switching, etc.)
standard interface supports PCM E1/T1 connectivity
The Node B network interface supports multiple PCM, IP, and Microwave Packet Radio
(MPR) to increase backhaul capacity.
Configuration/supervision
This function is in charge of configuring and supervising the modules as well as insuring
inventory information reporting and plug-and-play management.
The remote inventory functionality allows the OAM Access to determine the state of the
Node B and its composition, including all of its associated modules.
Synchronization
This function is in charge of retrieving highly stable radio frequency from either network
interface or optional GPS receiver. The standard synchronization mechanism of the Node
B is to extract the synchronization source of the E1/T1 interface.

description
....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Hybrid Iub
The hybrid Iub interface consists of the following connectivity:
ATM/PCM connectivity for R99, HSDPA, or HSUPA signaling and OAM traffic
IP/Ethernet connectivity for HSPA traffic (HSDPA + HSUPA, or HSDPA only)
Note: Hybrid Iub bandwidth pools resiliency (default configuration)
When IP connectivity is lost, new HSPA calls are transferred on the ATM path.
If the ATM path is configured into separate pools (one dedicated for HSPA on IP, the
other shared with R99 on ATM), and the dedicated pool fails, then new HSPA calls are
put in the shared pool.
The hybrid Iub interface requires a CCM-U module (MDA GE hardware configuration).
Hybrid Iub backhauling can be optimized using Alcatel-Lucent 9500 Microwave Packet
Radio (MPR).
Native IP Iub
The native IP Iub interface consists of a full IP/Ethernet transport on an Iub interface.
When a native IP Iub feature is deployed, the ATM/PCM connectivity is no longer used
on Iub.
The native Iub interface requires a CCM-U module (MDA GE hardware configuration).

PCM connection cables
For outdoor cabinet models, PCM connection is done through IP67 circular connectors
located on the bottom of the cabinet.
For the indoor V2 cabinet model, PCM connection is done through D-Sub 37 pin
connectors located on top of the cabinet.
The PCM cable is connected to the Iub port on the Node B bulkhead and to the
distribution frame.
In the case of a 120-ohm network, the only equipment needed to ensure the PCM
connection is the 120-ohm PCM cable.
In the case of a 75-ohm network, it is necessary to have baluns (two baluns per PCM) to
ensure adaptation from the 120 ohm of the Node B to the 75 ohm of the customer
network. Two types of baluns can be used: BNC, 1.6/5.6, or SMZ type 43.

Main functions
The TRDU module integrates the following three functions in a single module:
Transceiver
Multi-carrier power amplifier
Duplexer/filter
The TRDU6021 (or TRDU60-21B) module can manage up to four adjacent carriers in
UMTS Band I (2110-2170 MHz in downlink; 1920-1980 MHz in uplink) with the
following characteristics:
Downlink: one transmit chain supporting up to two adjacent UMTS carriers (carrier
spacing between 4.6 MHz and 5.2 MHz)
Uplink: dual receive chain in a main/diversity arrangement supporting two adjacent
carriers
RF air interface is supported through two antenna connections:
One duplexed antenna connection supporting transmit and receive main paths
(Antenna Main)
One single antenna connection supporting receive diversity path (Antenna Div).
Base band interface is supported through two CPRI links, support of CPRI rate 2 (1.2288
Gbps) and HW ready for CPRI rate 3 (2.45 Gbps), for daisy chaining or dual slave
(UMTS + LTE) connection.
The TRDU module includes a DC/DC converter for the -48 V DC power supply
conversion.
The TRDU module incorporates a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) meter to
monitor RF mismatching between antenna and TRDU main antenna connection. This
VSWR meter monitors Return loss at antenna main port connection. Two VSWR
thresholds are monitored, corresponding to two alarm levels reported on CPRI interface.

The TRDU module also provides an Antenna Interface Standard Group (AISG)
functionality.
The following figure illustrates the internal architecture of the TRDU module.
The TRDU module can be used in different modes regarding antenna system, depending
on Tower Mounted Amplifier (TMA) use and/or AISG Antenna Line Device (ALD) use:
No TMA mode
Antenna outputs and antenna(s) are directly connected through RF feeders.
TMA mode
An additional amplifier is added on each antenna branch in order to compensate
feeder loss on uplink path.
Two sub-modes with TMA can be used:
TMA UMTS mode: in this mode, the TMA is powered and monitored from the
TRDU module.
TMA Mix mode: in this mode, the TRDU module manages only extra gain on
uplink paths introduced by the TMA. This mode can be used in case of antenna
sharing with another system (the TMA is powered and monitored from this
system), or in case of AISG TMA (the TMA is powered and monitored by the
AISG primary device).

Cooling System
Overview
The cooling system provides the climatic control for the BTS. It consists of one iDACS .
It is used to control the ambient environment of the outdoor enclosure.
The iDACS is installed at the top of the cabinet and is accessed through the front hinged
access doors.
An electronic module, inside the iDACS, controls the cooling and heating functions of the
iDACS. From both the internal cabinet air temperature and the external ambient air
temperature, it then selects the level of environmental control necessary to maintain full
operational performance of the electronic equipment installed within the BTS.
Description
Important! A space is kept empty on each side of the iDACS to let the air flow.
Storage of equipments on either side of the iDACS is forbidden.
The main components of the iDACS are the following:
Two dc blowers
One printed circuit assembly for control functions
One air filter
One damper
One modulating dc motor
One air inlet switch
Two temperature control sensors
Two heaters and their associated thermostats

Principles of operation
A damper is used to control the internal air temperature of the BTS.
When fully closed, the damper excludes the outside air and air circulates within the
cabinet.
When the damper is fully open, there is no recirculation within the cabinet, the iDACS
then operates by drawing ambient air that is routed through the electronic equipment
installed in the cabinet and ejected via outlet ducts located at the sides of the iDACS.
At intermediate position, the damper is adjusted automatically to give a mix of
recirculated and external air, to achieve a nominal internal operating temperature of 25C.
For low external ambient air temperatures, the internal cabinet air temperature is
maintained above +50C by the operation of one or two heaters.
Modes of operation
The iDACS is able to operate in two modes:
Non speed control mode: in this mode, fans operate continuously at full speed.
Speed control mode: in this mode, the iDACS analyzes the external ambient
temperature and automatically selects slow (S) or high (S2) fan speed.
If the ambient external air temperature is below +40C, the fan speed selection is slow
speed.
Full speed is selected when one of the following conditions occurs:
Ambient external air temperature exceeds +40C
A fault condition exists
LED indicators
The control board of the iDACS monitors the performance of the cooling and heating
circuits.
The operation of the iDACS is monitored with eight LEDs. In normal operation, all the
LEDs must be illuminated and a non illuminated LED is an indication of a failure.
The LEDs are visible from the front panel of the iDACS.
Electrical specification
During normal operation, the iDACS uses its own internal ac/dc rectifying system.

Main functions
The TMA allows to decrease the overall noise level by amplifying the received signal.
In UMTS 2100, the TMA 2100 input/output (from the Node B) is used for transmission
and reception for main path or diversity path. One TMA 2100 is used per sector.
From the Node B point of view, the TMA is managed as a passive component by the
TRDU. The TMA is active in reception only.
The following figures show the TMA versions that are implemented in the system.

The Access Equipment provides a hub function (switching, routing) for the Node B. It is
located in small concentration hub sites like the Node B sites. It allows aggregating traffic
from several Node Bs. The Access Equipment offers more connectivity to the Node B
site.
The Access Equipment supports the following features:
Multi PCM
IMA on PCM E1/T1
Fractional E1/T1 to achieve Drop&Insert UMTS-UMTS and GSM-UMTS
Note: In case of Multi PCM without IMA feature, none of the Multi PCM can be
fractional. The fractional E1/T1 and Multi PCM without IMA features are not
compatible.

The drop and insert function implies the support of ATM over fractional E1 in the Node
B. The drop and insert function consists in the routing of data for other Node Bs through
the Node B. This is done through the routing of some PCM time slot from an incoming
PCM to an outgoing one.
