ENROLLING THE
MIND INTO THE
HEALING PROCESS

One of the many advantages of enrolling your


patient's mind in the healing process is you can
deliver the results they desire more quickly, more
effortlessly and almost certainly with fewer side
effects.

Here is a cool experiment designed to give the


experience of the mind in the healing process for
you and your client or patient. This doesn't require
any more knowledge than what I will give you in this
report, it will demonstrate just how powerful the
mind is and how simple it is to tap into. Please note
this is not hypnosis and requires no knowledge of
hypnosis.

This works well due to the fact that pain, by its very nature, can occupy an enormous amount
of mental bandwidth and often becomes the elephant in the mental room. Following these
procedures will demonstrate to the client the innate power that lies dormant in most of us. I
suggest you spend some time with the script (the words themselves are not particularly
important except where noted with an *before and after the phrase*. Practice is still helpful
because it creates a confidence in your going through them. That will continue to grow as you
practice and notice the results you clients are achieving. (this is a critical distinction, this is not
something "do to them" it is a process they "do to themselves" with you merely facilitating).

When you find someone with whom you


would like to work with on this exercise
(someone complaining about pain in your
treatment room is a really good place to
start) follow these simple steps before
beginning your processes.
Step 1: Elicit
Their Story
Get them to tell the story about the pain,
how did it occur, how long has it hurt etc.
It is fine to let them run a bit, as it brings
it more completely into the conscious

Step 2:
Quantify

Ask them to quantify it on a scale (1-10). The initial


answer is not particularly important, if they do
happen to give you an answer above the scale (it's
a 15), it is a bonus (I will explain in a bit) but the
actual number is irrelevant. (see footnote 1)

Step 3: Interrupt their Pattern
After they give you their answer, repeat it, and consider it for a little bit. Then say, do me a favor, move
we I tell you too (now, of course, you are not going to say those words exactly, rather you want to give
them instructions that involve moment and a bit of concentration). If they are standing we will get them
to move. If they are sitting we will ask them to stand (assuming, of course, they are able and this
movement will not exacerbate their pain). So here are some words you could say, "Would you please do
me a favor, could you stand right over here?" (look at their feet ask them to move them) "would you
please spread your feet about hip width apart?" (Validate that they have done it correctly) "That's right,
very good just like that...perfect". *Now, how is the pain?* (see footnote #2)

Step 4:
Calibrate
The opening of this step depends
on their quantification response. It
is either go up, down or remain the
same. Let's examine how to handle
those alternatives:

If the number is higher the second time. So you have some movement,
let's get it to move in the opposite direction, shall we?
If the number is lower. Wow, your good, we haven't even gotten started,
but your mind is so powerful you are already creating the desired result
If the number is the same, *no that is a reflexive response, really check*

"Now take a deep breath" (many
will benefit from a few deep
breaths, coach them to really fill
their lungs and fully inhale and
exhale take them deeper unless
contraindicated).

Now here we will deploy a little
OtherThanConscious communication.

We are going to ask them for the one through


ten reading, this time, however, we will use our
hands as a visual cue. You will assign the value
to each of your hands ( I use my right hand for
1 and my left for 10 so it appears left to right to
the client).

So you will have the scale of 1-10 and created a visual


marker as you are telling the tale. *"Now scan your, fully,
don't focus just notice what and where the pain is and
notice too, all of the things not in pain right now, take it all
in"*. Now moving your "10" hand to the center with a bit of
a subtle chopping motion ask, " where is your pain now?"

At this point, we will use the previous instructions as a
guideline.

Next, you can guide them thru a few deep cleansing
breaths, I like to add some patter as they are going
through their deep breaths. These should suggest in
healing and health themes.

Each inhalation brings life-giving oxygen, energy


and allows our body to heal fully and completely,
and each exhalation rids the body of toxins, carries
away stress of the day, the week, the month.

Where you go next, depends on you and the client.


If they are able to report good results, by all means,
validate that and use it as an opportunity to
reinforce the role that our mind plays in healing and
health.

If they report no change, I would simply move on to


your normal modalities and seek to provide relief
that way. I with very little practice you will be able to
help your clients notice the power of their own
mind, however, some people have difficulty getting
in touch with this innate ability.
The goal here is not to remove the pain, it is to help the client
manage it and perhaps create the circumstance that your own
protocols and processes will be more effective.

Pain, as we all know, provides valuable feedback. This simple


exercise executed as described will provide some relief and
could increase the efficacy of your treatment.

Footnotes
1- The process of running through the story and quantifying the pain is very likely to set off a
UEHP (Unconsciously Engrained Habit Pattern). Here is a simple principle, if I am telling you
that I am in pain, that brings the pain into consciousness. When we speak out loud to others,
our bodies naturally begin to align to remain consistent and congruent with the story that we
are telling, we don't usually do this on purpose it is usually unconscious. If we have told the
story enough, our body gets really good at producing the desired effect. Soon the habit is
engrained and fires off automatically once we begin to tell our tale of woe. We want to
interrupt this unconscious pattern.

2- What we have done in the first three steps is to get them fully associated to the pain (got
them to concentrate on it completely) and then used our compliance test to distract them
and therefore dissociate them from the pain. This, in and of itself, is normally enough to get
some movement on the scale. If you get movement, either up or down, validate this *oh that
is very good you have movement already* if they give you the same number don't say
anything. So remember to acknowledge and validate good, ignore bad. Continue to step 4
