Every organisms need food, water, oxygen, shelter and space to live. Organisms get everything
they need from their habitats.
Rainforests are habitats with a lot of rain and many trees. Plants that live in a rainforests
need plenty of water and warmth to live. Animals that live in a rainforests find the food, water
and shelter they need there.
Desserts are habitats that are very hot during the day and cold during the night. Desserts are
also very dry, but plants and animals live there.
Fish have adapted to live in the ocean. Other organisms have adapted to help them live on
land.
Populations
Populations are groups of organisms of the same kind witch live together. Populations get
bigger when there is enough food, water and shelter.
Communities.
A community is all the different populations that live together and interact in the same
place. In a community we can find predators and prey. Living things in a community depend on
each other to live.
Land Habitats: Forests
Forests are areas with lots of trees. Forests are often home of many plants and animals.
Plants and trees in the forests produce the food they need. They are producers.
A mouse eats leaves and fruits from the plants and trees. They are consumers, they
cant produce their own food.
The fox eats the mouse. The mouse is the foxs prey. They are predators.
The lynx caches and eats the fox. The lynx is the main predator.
In the forest habitat we can also find animals like bears. Bears eat grass and berries, but they
also need high energy protein food such as small animals.
Kelps are a tall plant that prows in the ocean. Kelp uses the energy from the sun to
make the sugars they need.
Atlantic salmon dont make their food, they are consumers. Their favorite foods are
crustaceans.
Shrimp use their legs to walk and swim. They eat plants and small animals. They are
consumers.
Skates eat Atlantic salmon. They get energy they need from the fish they eat.
Green plants make their own food, using nutrients from the earth, water and solar energy.
They are producers.
Most organism cant produce their own food and most consume other organisms. they are
called Consumers
In a food chain there are producers and consumers, predators and prey.

In the desert, days are very hot and nights are warm.
