H84MEP Power Generation and Carbon Capture

Carbon Capture and Storage for a Power Station, scheduled for 2030. Recommend whether pre or
post combustion carbon capture should be implemented;

Basis of comparison:

Should focus on suitability of technologies within the context of power plant use and energy penalty
(percentage reduction of the efficiency of the power plant with CCS compared to the plant without
CCS ; not just operations and fuel-related costs + environmental issues

Power station could be coal or natural gas;

Find one in the UK, with existing data such as flue gas;

Energy consumption will increase by XX% to XXTJ

Maybe look at https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/aeo/pdf/0383(2017).pdf or use lecture 3 figure, to

scale up for a plant in 2030.

e.g. 2017 plant XGW; estimate the background plant is scaled up, to 130%*XGW
