Homework for Induction Motor

1. A three-phase asynchronous machine has the following parameters related, its number of
pair pole of p, the stator frequency 1, rotor frequency 2, the slip s, synchronous speed 1 ,
rotating speed n, the rotor MMF 2 and its relative rerating speed 2 with respect to rotor.
Please try to complete the table below. (The negative value means that the rotating
direction is opposite to the air gap MMF rotating direction. ) (10 Remarks)

p 1(Hz) 2(Hz) s 1 (rpm) n 2 (rpm)

1 50 0.03
2 50 1350
3 50 1
4 -0.2 750
5 600 -500
60 3 1800

2. There is a three-phase induction motor with its stator winding applied by rated voltage of
50Hz. (10 Remarks)
(1) If the number of effective turn of the stator winding for each phase decreases, then
the magnetic fluxes for each phase would__________ (increase or decrease).
(2) If the air gap length is enlarged, then the motor no load current would __________
(increase or decrease).
(3) If the value of voltage applied to stator winding is fixed, but its frequency is changed
to 60Hz, then the exciting reactance would __________ (increase or decrease).current
would __________ (increase or decrease).
3. There is a three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor with the following parameters: =
220
10, 1 = 50 , 2p=4, = 380 (D/ Y connection), number of turns of each phase
coil in series for the stator armature winding 1 = 114, the fundamental winding
coefficient 1 = 0.902, 1 = 0.488, 1 = 0.488, = 0.488, = 39.2, the
total number of slot on the rotor is 2 = 42. Each conductor bar including the bearing
rings has the resistance of 2 = 0.135 103 , and leakage reactance of 2 = 0.44

103 . (Tip: 2 = 2 , 2 = 2 = 42, 2 = 1) (20 Remarks)
(1) Draw the equivalent circuit of the induction motor with labelling the each parameters of
induction motor.
(2) Try to calculate the phase current under no-load operation condition (s 0). (Note the
equivalent circuit would be different from load operation)
(3) When the armature winding is applied with nominal voltage, n=1460rpm, try to calculate
the phase current. (Using the T type equivalent circuit)
