idea and methods of Jinling Grand Bao'en Temple Site
Museum from two aspects, i.e. contextual pattern and
1 ( 210096) space, to discuss innovative methods that solve technical

( 210096) heritage in the design of a new tower. It also introduces the
adaptation of a dynamic design process in dealing with the

Oracle Book and Grammar
Significance of Yingzao Fashi Studies in the Academic System of
Chinese Architecture

[ ] Zhao Chen ABSTRACT

Yingzao Fashi (A Treatise on Architectural Methods)

studies were companied with the establishment and

( 210093) development of the academic system of Chinese
architecture, necessitating a critical review of the study
with wider vision and deeper cognition to clarify the gains
2016/12/20 and losses. It can also be concluded as the process of

decoding an oracle book and discovering the grammar

of traditional Chinese architecture.

Imagination and the Realities: Some Thoughts of
Reading Yingzao Fashi

[ ] Chang Qing ABSTRACT

This paper examines the context of the time when

Yingzao Fashi was issued with both historical positivism

( 200092) and logic inference, and pays particular attention to origin
and high style property and the mutual relationships with
vernacular architecture. It also explicates the classification
2016/12/15 of "cai" in relation to ritual system consisting of rites,
( )
music and the logic of construction, providing new

interpretations to palatial evolution due to retrogression
of bracket units.
KEY WORDS

"cai" (a basic length unit of carpentry system); ritual order
consisting of "li" (ritual) and "yue" (music); retrogression of

Exploring Teaching Methods in the Cognition

Architectural Education
Development Oriented Mixed-use Complex Studio

[ ] Wang Zhendong ABSTRACT

[ ] Xie Zhenyu This paper offers a historical review of the teaching experiences

[ ] Wang Hao of a long-term project for third-grade undergraduate

architectural students in Tongji University, and reflects on the
significance and value of professional training as exemplified in
( 200092) the mixed-use complex. It introduces the purpose and program
of the optimization of teaching system, describes the measures

( 200092) used in teaching including interactive questionnaire survey,

reasonable investigation mode, various course modules,
appropriate improve method, etc. Finally, it identifies the
2016/09/08
core values of long project as the driving factor for further
improvement of architectural teaching on three levels:

meditation, research and representation.

Community Center Design from a Perspective of
Complex Urban Environment

[ ] Wu Jinxiu ABSTRACT
[ ] Zhu Lei This paper introduces the adjustments and

[ ] Shi Yonggao implementations of the studio course of community

[ ] Yi Xin ce nte r d e sig n f o r s o p h o m o r e s at th e S ch o o l o f
Architecture at Southeast University. The fundamental
change lies in the shift of perspective from individual
( 210096) buildings to a much larger and more complex urban

environment. The teaching program encourages students

to investigate, observe, think and recognize current
2016/10/13 problems confronting the city and the community

(5167812351678127) through integration of various disciplines. It also seeks to

improve environmental qualities and energize different

( [2013]1 ) groups of people as a result of the program.

Villages Beyond Utopia
Nostalgic Illusion and Historical Complexities of Chinese Vernacular
Architecture

[ ] Zhang Lizhi ABSTRACT

This paper aims to disenchant several classical rural

theories that confine the interpretation and development
of Chinese villages. It presents several pre-modern
( 100084)
villages in the Southeast to illustrate the realization of
Confucian elitism, with the amalgamation of different
2016/12/01 international architectural styles and Chinese experiment

towards the modern world in the meantime. It is the anti-
(2016590101) utopian elements that characterize traditional villages and
vernacular architecture in China. This paper pines for a
broader and more flexible analytical framework for the
study of vernacular architecture.

KEY WORDS
Chinese vernacular architecture; traditional Chinese

An Analysis on the Pattern of the Traditional Lingnan
Waterside Settlements under the Pressure of Flood
A Case Study of Four Villages in Sangyuan Wei in the Pearl River
Delta

[ ] Zhang Zhimin ABSTRACT

With a review of the preventive measures of floods in Sanyuan

Wei, this paper analyzes the impact of the clan-based autonomy
as a result of flood prevention on the village in the Pearl River
( 510640)
Delta. It argues that rural autonomy of this kind in waterside
settlements as typified in Sanyuan Wei is the intrinsic mechanism
of the formation and evolution of the settlements. The survival
2016/11/17
and development of the clan became the fundamental factors
in the formation of rural autonomy, and the improvement of
(51278197)
the mechanism promotes flood prevention in turn, resulting
(14YJAZH019) in the similarities of evolution of waterside settlements with
traditional Lingnan characteristics. The different morphological

characteristics of Songtang Village, Jiancun Village, Cuntou
Village and Yanqiao Village in Sangyuan Wei are the outcome
of adaptation to different nat ural environment and clan
development.

A Study on the Dynamics of the Preservation and
Vitalization of Villages Based on Three Cases in
3 Fujian

1, 2 ABSTRACT
[ ] Wang Qiong
1, 2 Taking the gain and loss of three villages in Fujian as

preservation and vitalization of three villages on the basis
of the theory of heritage dynamics. It also examines
1 ( 350108) the relationships between dynamic origins and acting
2 forces caused by different subjects, in hopes to explore

preservation modes and proper relations between the

Reading, Planning, Communicating, Imaging and

in Puntoon Wuyue Village

1 ABSTRACT
[ ] Xu Haohao
2 The paper takes the project of Puntoon Village as an
[ ] Li Peng
3 example to unfold the complexities hidden behind the long-

term urban micro-regeneration process. It records the initial
historical reading and research, public communication
1 ( 510641) and imagination experiments in the middle of the process,
2 and recent construction, to discuss a design principle
( 510260)

integrating methods of historical geography, morphology,

[ ] Cao Jin ABSTRACT

Based on case studies of untypical renovation of villages such as

Lanzhai and Xiaba, in combination with the practice of volunteer
architects, planners and engineers going down to villages, this
( 510075)
paper explores many possibilities of revitalizing villages in
the hope that the top-down pattern can be altered. In this way,
2016/10/15 villagers' will should be taken into count to awaken their cultural

consciousness, reconstruct the spirit of the village, and arrange
the network of heritage preservation and exhibition to energize
the village by minimal intervention and gradual development.
KEY WORDS
