For the course of Arts in Practice, I have decided to collaborate with The
Ledebirds organisation.

The Ledebirds is a community orchestra located in the neighborhood of

Ledeberg. Since its foundation in 2008, it has been inviting neighbors to come and
play with the band. There is no minimum age or musical level required. Beginners
and experienced, old and young musicians play together. Right now, there are
about 30 musicians that join the band regularly, with ages between 12 and 70, and
backgrounds in 10 different countries.

I myself come from a different country and I live within close limits to
Ledeberg neighborhood. Having such a diverse music community close to me, I
decided that it would be a good idea to join them and be a part of this organization
with diverse individuals.

Each year, the band plays on different local community events, but they also
concentrate on a couple of musical projects. The source material for the repertoire
is inspired by the musical cultures that can be found in the neighborhood.

My contribution to those projects consists in my participation to rehearsals

with the band once a week, by playing the piano part (or harp, but on a keyboard
with harp MIDI sample) of the repertoire that our coordinator chooses. Also, when
needed, I will adjust or correct scores to match the instrumental arrangement of the
band. I have also considered composing a piece for the band, which will imply
more modern instrument techniques, and accommodate the players with
contemporary music.
 I intend to take part of The Ledebirds community orchestra until the
beginning of June, 2016. Until then, I will participate in several concerts. The next
projects are:

Fundraising concert for the VZW Music Fund on 6th of December when the
band will accompany a high school choir of 100 singers.
On 16th of January, the band will invite the local church choir to sing old
local songs that were found in the archives. This is a projects assisted by Dr.
Dirk Moelants. The band will play as a response a repertoire that bares
influences of world music.
On 15th of April, the band will play an official concert in the new
concert hall the city will be inaugurating on Ledeberg square. The repertoire
will include old and new compositions of local composers.
