Reflections on Observation Task 1: Environmental in the Classroom

Read the questions below and choose (1) one to respond to

1. How does environmental print impact students language development, and their reading
and writing abilities?
- It helps the students practice reading and writing after taking new letter, for example, if they take
the letter a and there was the word apple on the wall, some students will try to read it while
pointing at the letter a, and some other will try to write it or they might just write the letter a without
the rest. Environmental print is a step for students towards reading, it leads them to read and write.
Students can create their own understanding when they see environmental print, for example, one
student saw a logo that represents raising a hand, so he said we should raise our hand to answer
or to ask for something, and so it means that environmental print is a helpful resource for students
in all ages. Students might use the logo to write the word that describes it or read some word that
describes the logo & put it in a useful sentence, for example, we cannot answer without raising
our hand we cannot go to the bathroom without taking permission from the teacher. By
including environmental print students gain symbolic knowledge by their surroundings.
