ABSTRACT
Wedemonstratematterwaveinterferenceinawarmvaporofrubidiumatoms.
Establishedapproachestolightpulseatominterferometryrelyonlasercoolingto
concentratealargeensembleofatomsintoavelocityclassresonantwiththeatom
opticallightpulse.Inourexperiment,weshowthatclearinterferencesignalsmaybe
obtainedwithoutlasercooling.ThiseffectreliesontheDopplerselectivityoftheatom
interferometerresonance.Thisinterferometermaybeconfiguredtomeasure
accelerations,andwedemonstratethatmultipleinterferometersmaybeoperated
simultaneouslybyaddressingmultiplevelocityclasses.
