POSITION TITLE: Accountant I

DEPARTMENT: General Accounting

REPORTS TO: General Accounting Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for but not limited to


the following:

The accurate and timely preparation of the hospital's fixed asset


system.
The compilation and preparation of monthly statistical analysis
reports.
All subsidiary ledger accounting of the hospital auxiliary and other
supported entities up to financial statement preparation.
Providing general ledger account reconciliation and other support for
the financial month end closings.
Performing monthly bank statement reconciliations.
Providing coverage and backup support for the payroll function.
Providing accounting and clerical support for audits, budget
preparation and special projects as needed.

CUSTOMERS SERVED: Hospital employees, hospital administration, department


managers, hospital vendors and hospital visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Must possess the technical accounting


skills related to all aspects of general ledger accounting. Must be able
to perform bank statement and general ledger account reconciliation in an
accurate manner. Must be able to meet required deadlines and timeframes
in an organized manner. Must possess intermediate/advanced computer and
typing skills. Must have effective interpersonal and customer relation
skills, through both telephone and face-to-face contact. Must possess
ability to deal with matters of confidentiality.

Education/Licensure: Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college


or technical school; and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting.
Experience: Four years of business office experience, demonstrating job
proficiency in accounting. One year of health care experience is
preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit for up to 8 hours daily. Be


able to use a computer keyboard. Be able to lift and carry up to 25
pounds.

1. 25% Provides excellent customer service and adheres to


the Behavioral Expectations Agreement.

2. 15% Performs accounting of all fixed assets and depreciation on an


ongoing basis for both the hospital and the
Hospital District. Maintain the accuracy of the
Property, Plant and Equipment accounts in the
general ledger. Maintain related fixed asset
additions and deletions reports. Reconcile,
balance and close the fixed asset subsidiary ledger
at each month end cycle.

3. 15% Collect statistical data from


departments and various reports. Prepare monthly
statistical reports and thoroughly review for
accuracy and reasonableness. Distribute monthly
statistical reports and department reports to
managers as necessary.

4 10% Performs various general ledger account


reconciliations monthly, auditing for accuracy.
Prepare various monthly general journal entries in
an accurate and timely manner. Enter monthly
journal entries into financial accounting system
maintaining adequate audit trail. Maintain monthly
journal entry notebooks. Reconcile the payroll
bank account monthly.

5. 10% Provide backup coverage to department in support of


payroll and accounts payable duty.

6. 10% Perform accounting duties (including daily cash)


for the Hospital Auxiliary and other supported
entities up to financial statement preparation.
Reconcile credit card transactions daily.

7. 5% Provide accounting support for the office leases


and notes receivable. Key monthly data and make
adjustments as necessary. Maintain related
spreadsheets and reports as necessary.
