Using this sheet, analyze the types of coaching behavior you see in the videos. Tally
the total number of times you observed that behavior and calculate a total percent
that behavior was done. Your observation will be a combined one for all coaches.

Part 2. After recording your observations and using the sheet above, write up a
summary responding to the following questions.
1. Which category of coaching behaviors and specific behaviors were most
prevalent and which where least prevalent?
The most prevalent behaviors were Reinforcement and General Technical
Instruction. The least prevalent were Non-Reinforcement and General
Communication, General encouragement and keeping control.

2. What are the benefits to the coaching you saw and the detriments?
Reinforcement was good because it made the athletes more responsive and
determined to perform like the ones who were getting positive comments.
Punitive technical instruction would be the most detrimental because athletes
would get annoyed and feel down on themselves.

3. Do you think the athletes are learning, improving, feel comfortable, and are
motivated or fearful with the coaching that you viewed? Why? What evidence
supports your response?
I think the athletes in volleyball were improving after instruction because it
was in a positive tone. I think that these athletes are comfortable in this setting
because they dont feel like they will get yelled at. On the other hand, the
football coach was constantly yelling and putting players down with his
punitive instruction. The athletes are afraid of failure and afraid to make
mistakes.

4. Are these coaches effective? Give reasoning for your answer as to why or why
not.
I believe that the volleyball coach is effective because he was constantly
complimenting the athletes, but also telling them how they can improve. The
football coach probably doesnt have a good relationship with his athletes
because of the nagging and hostile environment he made .
