Do teachers have a significant effect on students who struggle with language, learning, and behavior?
This study is to prove that changing the way you approach the classroom can help improve students
understanding. By changing the teacher's way of approaching the classroom as a clear manner of
speaking, it will benefit the students. It states that it is important that teachers use clear, concise, and
concrete language when giving instructions to students having trouble with academic and behavioral
demands. By giving clear instructions and communication, it will help give exact guidelines for these
students that are lacking the foundation. This study shows that the variables that show problems related to
classroom communication include: complex grammatical structures, words and phrases to show meaning,
and use of linguistic features that will get in the way of comprehension. This study uses the example,
simply changing from conversational to a clear manner of speaking will likely benefit all students, but
particularly those who struggle with language and learning.

Title of Article: Teaching Story Grammar to Develop Retell and Speaking Skills in an EFL Context
Author: Maria Nelly Gutierrez Arvizu
Year: May 2017

The reason behind the study by Gutierrez Arvizu, was to find the success of teaching story grammar for
the development of speaking skills. This study has been proven to be beneficial for oral retell skills. They
formed two groups to experiment this theory. In each group, they received 15 lessons over a three-week
period. Each lesson was about 15 minutes long. One group experienced the lessons with story visuals,
explicit instruction in story grammar, and had speaking activities using Story Champs curriculum. The
other group received the same lesson without the story visuals, vocabulary, and written activities.
Students tests were not that much different, student's continued to speak Spanish on the test. Although
they werent statistically significant, the experimental group showed more improvement. Using speaking
skills in EFL contexts are important by everyone in the learning process, but it still needs more
development. Having effective lessons to develop speaking skills is important so they help provide
opportunities for learning and practice. After using stories in the EFL classes, students will have a better
understanding and will improve their development in speaking.
