DSS Emergency

I was unable to pay my rent because I had to pay $2000 towards tuition to get my child Emarah Davis
into Johnson and Wales University located in Rhode Island. I and her mother Amy Challinger tried every
avenue to get the money. Emarahs tuition came to $30,000. This includes room and board. Emarahs
scholarship award, and financial aid covered up to $15,000. Amy and myself were stuck with balance of
$15,000. Amy applied for parent loan but was inly approved $13,000. I applied as well but was denied.
We asked around family but no one had any money to spare. I was the only hope for her to get in school
because her mom lost her job 2 months prior and her unemployment went to her rent. I made this 1
time decision because we had to make the college deadline for September students. I want you to know
I will never do this again.
