Department DSS Emergency

Mount Vernon NY

Case number: N279

I James Davis was unable to pay my rent for 2 months because I had to pay $2000 towards tuition to get my
child G Davis into In Rhode Island. I and her mother Amy Challinger tried every avenue but no success. tuition
came to $30,000 for classes, room and board. Edna scholarships and financial aid awards covered as far as
$15,000. Amy and myself were stuck with $15,000 as the remaining balance needed to be paid for my
daughter to start College. Amy applied for Direct parent loan but was only approved $13,000. I applied but was
denied. We asked family, friends and no one had $2000 to spare. I was the only hope for my daughter
because her mom lost her job 2 months prior and unemployment had not kicked in yet. I made this one-time
decision because we had to make the deadline for September applicants and were running out of time. I want
you to know that I will never ever jeopardize my rent not being paid ever again or put myself in this predicament
again. For future, my daughter will be applying for scholarships with the school which are only offered to
attending students. I ask that you please help me with paying $1900.00 to rent arrears owed to my landlord
Prima Properties. I have started working a second job as of couple weeks ago which I have provided proof to
DSS. I promise to pay back this loan if I am approved. I also have the full August rent together as of today.

Sincerely

James Davis
