Name of Film: Borderline

Genre: Social Realism:

Social Realism is a genre which gives the audience an indicator of real life like
for some people. Theorists like Raymond Williams believe that social realism is
used by directors to try portraying real life at the time the film was set in as it
contains an element of social extension by which previously under-represented
groups in society become represented. Social realism films are secular, which
means they are logic and have real reasons behind it over the ways other films
of different genres are mystical and fiction. I believe that my genre
differentiates to other films through the ways they have an original genre which
gives the idea how it will be similar to other films, however social realism genre
is unused and a rare sighting within film which creates uniqueness within my
film.

Types of Audiences:

Primary audiences are the main body of viewers -- the average

age/gender of viewers. Also known as target audience.
Secondary audience is viewers who fall outside the primary demographic,
but make up a large enough percentage of the audience, however are not
the target audience yet it appeals to them.
Niche Audience: Much smaller but very influential audience. A niche
audience is a small, select of people with a unique interest.
Mass Audience: Media/ Communication that targets a very large group of
people (popular texts/ broadcasts.) This can appeal to women, men,
children, adults, etc.

My primary audience would be aimed at viewers from the ages 13-18, which is
the age of High School and College/ Sixth Form students like me. I believe
aiming it at this age range will engage them more due to the ways the narrative
and film being based around a boy aged of 17. I firmly believe that basing my
film on these ages can create a relation and bond with the ages as it can relate to
them in real life situations and experiences. This links into the genre which is
social realism which gives the audience an indicator of real life like for some
people which can engage a variety of viewers of this age range of different
cultures and background to come together and relate to one another due to
similar experiences. Films have a range of great storylines with great actors,
however my differentiates to them in the way they actually communicate with
the audience and almost gives them a say in the ways to show they are not alone
in the experiences of pressure, stress and grief. In addition, with the primary
audience being between 13-18 year olds gives the understanding that the
audience is a niche audience in the ways it is a narrow target audience for
people with a certain experience or interest.
