Job Description *** ALL NECESSARY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO BE
OBSERVED***
Manufacturer's Instruction/Maintenance Manual and any relevant
Service Bulletins are to be referred to prior to and during maintenance.
Note: For maintenance details refer to VMS, Safety & Environmental
Procedures, Section 4 "Safe Working Practices", Paragraph 4.5 "Mooring, Anchoring, Towing Operations and Fire Wires", Item 4.5.3 "Maintenance".
All mooring ropes and wires are to be thoroughly inspected at three
months interval. Wire ropes are to be lubricated during this inspection using a recognised wire rope lubricant. On NO account should home-made lubricants be used as these can lead to pollution claims against the vessel. Particular attention must be made to ensure that lubricant is penetrating through the inner layers to prevent internal corrosion that will result in failure of the wire. For type of Lubricant refer to Ship's Lubrication Chart. Note: All wires and ropes stowed on drums must have canvas covers available for use at all times when the vessel is at sea to protect them from the effects of weather, sea and sunlight.
