A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

Dont Tear Down That Wall!

Ecclesiastes 10:5-14

President Trump trumpeted Build the wall! The Almighty has a word
of caution: Dont Tear Down That Wall!
On Sunday, I'll be taking our congregation on a tour of a farmer's
vineyard, 3,000 years ago. The author of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon,
was probably looking at the many vineyards in his kingdom and
observed that most have something in common - a home security
system that was almost foolproof. His words are prophetic and the
lesson is applicable for today.
I hope you can include Dearborn Congregational Church in your
Sunday plans!

See you at 10 AM for Sunday Worship!

Our suggested Scripture reading for November 19th, from the 2017
UCC Church Calendar:

Matthew 25:14-30 (NLT)

Parable of the Three Servants
14 Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a
long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he
was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one
bag of silver to the lastdividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his
trip.
16 Theservant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and
earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned
two more.

18 Butthe servant who

received the one bag of
silver dug a hole in the
ground and hid the
masters money.

19 Aftera long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an
account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted
the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, Master, you gave me
five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.
21 The
master was full of praise. Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have
been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more
responsibilities. Lets celebrate together!
22 The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said,
Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.
23 The master said, Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful

in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities.
Lets celebrate together!
24 Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, Master, I knew you
were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didnt plant and gathering crops you didnt
cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is
your money back.
26 But the master replied, You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested
crops I didnt plant and gathered crops I didnt cultivate, 27 why didnt you deposit my
money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.
28 Then he ordered, Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the
ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be
given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what
little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer
darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

We Need Your Help!

Thanksgiving is only one week away! We need your

help in filling Turkey Baskets for needy families. A
donation of canned and boxed non-perishable food
items can be dropped off at the church Monday thru
Friday mornings. A basket is in the Sanctuary to
receive donations on Sunday morning. We also need
cash and gift cards to make this a blessed holiday for
families in our area!
Thank you for your generous support!

Tragedy in Texas
The sound of hymns drifted from the country church in Texas. Then
came the gunfire.

Two weeks ago, a mad gun burst into the First Baptist Church of
Sutherland Springs, Texas. What happened next was horrific. The
images and the reporting of this event have touched us all. And like
you, I have prayed for the grieving families, and I have wondered
about our church. Could this horror be repeated in Dearborn?

We must be prepared to protect our congregation against imminent

threats. And so, this past week the Diaconate Committee and Board
of Trustees approved a security plan.

Beginning Sunday, November 12th, we are implementing a new policy

for Sunday Worship. Five minutes after the Morning Worship begins,
ushers will lock the front and side entrance doors to our building.
This action will not prevent anyone in the Sanctuary or hallway from
exiting but it will stop any suspicious or dangerous individual from
entering.

One Usher will remain in the narthex, monitoring the parking lot,
entrance doors, and surrounding areas of our building. They will act
on the side of caution, alerting the Pastor and congregation, should
any suspicious activity take place on church grounds.

In Matthew 10:16, Jesus told his disciples: Look, I am sending you

out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and
harmless as doves.

We will do everything possible in making Dearborn Congregational

Church a safe place of peace, security and blessed worship.
