Teachers from our Toddler Classes will contact parents about arrangements for this first day. You will
havetheopportunitytotalkaboutyourchildandcompleteasettlinginplanthatwillhelpyourchildto
transitionathis/herownpace.Wednesday22ndAugustParentswillbegivenbriefindividualmeetings

Toddler, Nursery, Reception are not required to stay for the full morning but may leave when they feel
comfortable. Children and parents for Toddler, Nursery and Reception are asked to come to school
between8:30and11:00.
KeyStageOneYear1classes
Thiswillbeanorientationmorningandparentsareaskedtoaccompanytheirchildintotheclassroomany
timebetween08:30and11:00.Parentsmaytalktotheclassteachingteam,visittheclassroomwiththeir
childandleavewiththeirchildwhentheywishto.
KeyStageOneYear2classes
ChildreninYearTwoareaskedtocomeat08:30andbeleftbytheirparentsuntil11:00.Parentscanleave
the premisesor join otherYear Two parents fora cup of coffee. From 11:00 until 11:30 parents have the
opportunitytocometotheclassroomandasktheteacheranygeneralquestionsabouttheschoolday.
JuniorSchool(Years36)
ThiswillbeausualschooldayforJuniorSchool.Studentsareaskedtocometoschoolat8:15.Thenew
childrenwillbemetatthefrontdoorbyteachersandshowntotheirclassesandintroducedtotheirnew
teachers.TheJuniorSchoolstudentswillspendthewholedaywiththeirclassteachersandtherewillbe
nospecialistlessonsonthefirstday.Duringthisfirstdaytheclassteacherswillsettlethechildrenand
make them aware of the various routines in their new class. They will also tour the school to find out
whereeverythingissituated.Newchildrenwillbegivenbuddiestohelpthemthroughtheirfirstdaysata
newschoolandtheywillalsodoalotofgettingtoknowyouactivitiesinordertohelpthechildrenbond
withtheirnewclassmates.Allstudentswillfinishschoolat15:30.Buseswillleaveat15:45.

StudentswillspendthedaywiththeirFormTutorsandHeadsofKeyStage,settinguptheirorganisation
structuresfortheyearwithtimetablesandsuchlike.Therewillbeanassemblyforeachyeartointroduce
theSeniorSchoolLeadershipTeam,andtheStudentLeaderstoallstudents.TherewillalsobesomeSport
Trialsintheafternoon.
4. TheSecondDayofTerm

We understand that children in FoundationStageand KeyStage One may be very tired on the first full
day of term so please let the class teacher know ifyou intend to pick them up earlier than the finishing
time.
TheseconddayoftermwillbeanordinarydayforKeyStageOnechildren.SomeNurseryandReception
children may need time to settle in and your childs teacher will work with you to make a smooth and
appropriatetransitionsuitableforyourchild.

JuniorSchoolstudentswillremaininclassallday.Theywillcontinuewithactivitiestofindoutaboutthe
other children in the class. The school philosophy and objectives statement will be discussed and
explainedtothechildren.Theywillalsodiscuss,andmaketogether,theclassruleswhichwilldeal,ina
positiveway,aboutexpectedbehaviourintheclassandaroundtheschool.Usualtimetablewithspecialist

StudentsattheLegendGardenCampuswilluseaSmartCardsystemtopayforlunches.Studentsopting
forschoollunchwillbeaskedtoloadRMB500ontotheircardsatthestartoftheyear,andmaythentop
upthecardswithfundsasneededthroughouttheyear.PhotoIDswillbeavailabletheweekbeforeschool
startsanditwouldbeadvisablefornewstudentstodothisatthattime,whentheyarepickingupuniform.

InKeyStageOnechildrenhavetheopportunitytojoinanafterschoolRootsandShootsactivityandthe
lunchtimeschoolchoir.
ActivitiesforJuniorSchoolstudentswillrunonTuesdaysandThursdayafterschool.
ActivitiesforSeniorSchoolstudentswillrunduringlunchtimesandafterschooleachday.
Allstudentsmustsignupandregularlyattendatleastoneactivityperweek.
MusicalEnsembles:
Studentscangetinvolvedinavarietyofmusicgroupsandensemblesafterschoolandduringlunchtime.
TheverybestsingersgetachancetobeintheChamberChoir,whilstallsingersarecateredforinourKey
Stage3ChoirandSeniorSchoolChoir.TheboysarechallengedinouramazingMaleVoiceChoirandthe
girlsinourGospelChoir.ThemoreadvancedorchestralplayerswillbeinvitedtoperformintheChamber
Orchestra, whilst the Senior Orchestra will be used to coach and train all others to enhance their
development in performance and musicianship. Our top musicians are invited to perform in the Beijing
YouthOrchestra,whosehomeistheEdwardAlleynTheatrewhilstallmayparticipateintheInternational
SchoolsChoralMusicSociety(ISCMS),ACAMISandFOBISSEAalongwithachoiceofatleast5overseas
musictours.
TheBigBandoffersplacestostudentsinKeyStages4and5whilsttheWindBandcatersforourKeyStage
3players.AGiftedandTalentedJazzSeptetgracesmanypublicengagementsbothinsideandoutsidethe

College.RockBandsareencouragedtopracticeonaweeklybasisasthePracticeRoomsarereservedfor
thematspecifictimes.ManyChamberMusicgroupsexist,fromFluteGroupstoClarinetGroupstoPiano
Trios. If you have an idea we can cater for it. Next year we will operate a Spatial Music Group, a new
musicgroupfocusingonexploringsoundandagroupdesignedtoexploremusictechnologythroughthe
useofIpadsandaTheremin.Wewillcontinueourunrivaledfocusonourpianoplayersandcreatemore
ChamberGroupsinliaisonwithourHeadofInstrumentalStudies.Studentsareencouragedtoleadand
directtheirowngroups,underthetutelageoftheirmusicteacherswhereanythingispossible,andindeed
encouragedatDulwich.Allgroupsandsoloistsaregivenampleopportunitiestodisplaytheirtalentson
stagewithintheDulwichcommunityandelsewhere.Toaidintheallrounddevelopmentofthestudent
whilst offering a more holistic experience students are encouraged to partake in the music student
leadershipteamthatstretchesfromYear4toYear13,undertheguidanceoftheHeadMusicPrefectand
theHeadofMusicoftheCollege.
DulwichCommunityProgrammes(DCP)
DulwichCommunityProgrammes(DCP)offerslearningexperiencesfortheentirecommunitytoenjoy.A
broad range of courses for children and adults are available including sport, culture, music, technology,
performanceandmore.
Classesforchildrenareselectedtocomplementthecurrentsetofschoolactivitiesoffered.AllDCPcourses
are conducted byqualified and professionalcoaches/instructors. Courses vary throughout the year; itis
advisedtocheckthebrochuresandwebsiteeachterm(Autumn,Winter,Summer).Termcoursestypically
runeighttotenweeksandareheldafterschoolandduringtheweekends.
ItisimportanttonotethatDCPalsoorganisesmusicinstruction,whichincludeprivatelessons,ensemble
andMusicTheory.MusicstudentswillhavetheopportunitytositABRSMexaminations(bothpractical
andtheory)andobtaincertificationsastheyadvancethroughtheirstudies.
InadditiontoTermcourses,DCPalsorunsholidaycampsthroughouttheyearforstudentstokeepbusy
duringschoolbreaks.
AdultsarealsowelcometoparticipateinDCP.Eachtermhasclassesespeciallygearedtowardthosewho
are18andolder.Onedayworkshopswillonceagainbeavailablethroughouttheyearforthoseeagerto
continuetheireducationwithlimitedtimeontheirhands.
Unlike After School Activities, DCP courses are not included in the school fees, and therefore incur an

DulwichLegendSportsClub
LocatedontheLegendGardenCampus,DulwichLegendSportsClubprovidesstudents,parentsandthe
community with access to a wide range of sports facilities and equipment. The club offers a 25metre
swimmingpool,asportshall,amultipurposesportsdome,tenniscourts,adance/aerobicsstudioanda
varietyofresistanceandcardiovasculartrainingequipment.Theclubsoperatinghoursare06:00to22:00

11. Uniform
Children in Toddler and IB classes are not required to wear uniform at Dulwich. The dress code for IB
students can be found on our website. All other students at Dulwich are required to wear the school
uniform. This is different for warm and cold weather, and students should adhere to seasonal
requirements.Pleasebesurethatallitemsareclearlymarkedwiththestudentsname.
All school uniform items except for shoes, white ankle socks and black belts are available for purchase
fromtheDulwichUniformShop.Youmaywishtopurchasethefollowinginyourcountry:shoes,tights,
socks,blackbelts,navyhairaccessories.

Unless special circumstances apply, students who are required to wear uniforms will receive a uniform
credit of RMB 800 that can be used during Uniform Week and at the Uniform Shop at Legend Garden.
These credits will be issued in the form of a stored value card at the Legend Garden campus during
UniformWeek.

openinghourswillbeMondaytoFridayfrom08:00to12:00and13:00to16:00.
Students are required to wear full summer school uniform as of Wednesday 22nd August. If for good
reason students are unable to obtain the correct uniform by the first day of school, they will be given a
short grace period, butit is expected that moststudents will come to schoolin properuniform from the

All students in Years7 to11 will travel with their year group on a3 or4 night trip to different parts of
ChinabetweenMonday17thand20thSeptember2012.(Year11willtraveladayearlier).Thesetripsserve
