Netball

By Ginny P7
Background

• Netball is played on a rectangular court.

• Size: 30m x 15m

• The court is divided into thirds.

• The middle third is called the “Center Third”

• The two areas at either end of the court are called the
“Goal Thirds”.
Background 2

• In each “Goal Third” you will

find a semi circle called the
circle.

• The circle contains a post with

a ring and net.

• In the “Center Third” you will

find a smaller circle known as
the “Center Circle”.

• This is where games are
started from, and restarted
from when ever a goal is
scored.
Background 3
• The long outer lines of the
•court are known as the
sidelines.

• The shorter outer lines are

known as the goal lines.

• The two lines that separate the

thirds of the court as known as
the transverse lines.

• Netball is fast paced, non-

non-
contact sport.
The Basics
Netball is a game with 14 players - Seven people from each team.

Each player is given a position to play with a set role. This position
position is worn on the back
and front of their outfit.

GS - To score goals and to work in and around the circle with the GA

GA - To feed and work with GS and to score goals

WA - To feed the circle players giving them shooting opportunities

C - To take the Centre Pass and to link the defence and the attack

WD - To look for interceptions and to prevent the WA from feeding the circle

GD - To win the ball and reduce the effectiveness of the GA

GK - To work with the GD and to prevent the GS from scoring goals

• All players must start in the goal thirds except the two Centres.
Centres.

• The Centre with the ball starts with either one or both feet in the Centre Circle.

• The opposing Centre stands anywhere within the Centre Third and is free to
move.

• A player who has caught or the ball shall play it or shoot for goal

• Only GS or GA can score – they must be completely within the circle.

• A “toss-

making a pass

• Having caught the ball, a player may land or stand on:

• One foot – while the landing foot remains grounded, the second foot may

shooting action.
